A Halogaf Community Thread: The Old Becomes New

MCC Development update is out. They Postums discusses where things are at with Reach flighting and development. There is a nice Q&A section. They also working on having updates on Reach flighting become more routine so fans can know when to expect them and see where things are at at the end of each week.

Edit: I played 2 games today in social slayer. The first was awful and in the second game this happened. What a difference one game can make lol.

These were from a couple days ago but news is pretty slow. Check out the update to the Halo 5 action sack playlist. Some really cool custom games being made by forgers.

Also another community spotlight:

Dreamhack in Montreal just finished up but I don't think 343 had a presence there and no halo news was to be found.

Here is a repost of remaining gaming events where we could potentially get more Halo Infinite or Reach news:

1) Tokyo Gameshow - September 11-15 (unlikely? I don't think MS or 343 do much there)

2) PAX Australia in Melbourne - October 11-13

3) EGX in London - October 17-20 womp womp...

4) Paris Games Week - October 30 - November 3

5) X019 in London - November14-16 (should be good. I have high hopes for this year)

6) PAX Unplugged Philadelphia, PA - December 6-8

7) Dream Hack in Jönköping, Sweden - December 13-15

Also, I'm out of town visiting family. Completely forgot about the UGC Halo 3 Classic event. Guess I missed it yesterday and day before.

Does anyone else have frequently atrocious hit reg on the MCC? Really wish that would get ironed out. Other games are fine. There's a video on YouTube that demonstrates that every game pings to a relay server first and then to the server hosting the game, which obviously increases the latency. I don't think I can get around that on my router.

I have run into that issue with HCE, but it comes and goes. There are some games where I feel like I'm on fire and can't miss, and there are other games where I feel like I'm getting robbed with every encounter. 343 continues to work on random bugs and issues, so let's hope they figure it out.

I really hate the layout of that website. I miss the good ol' Bungie website from back in the day.

Was reading this article yesterday and thought it was interesting. It talks about how Gears 5 learned from the mistakes of Halo 5 and Dead Space 3. In particular, the squad based mechanics and lack of depth leaves you not caring about your team at all. I definitely didn't enjoy it myself. I'm hopeful though. If The Coalition can use the examples from previous games to fix their own then 343 should be able to as well. Hopefully...

Also this is pretty cool. It is an ODST playlist in Halo 5:

Alright bots and grills.
Idk if this has been talked about yet, but it's Halo 3's 12th Anniversary WOOOAAAHHH SO FUCKING COOL ASDLFOJHASDLJKFHSDA
Anyone have any favorite memories? I think mine would be playing The Covenant. That mission is probably the best one out of Halo 3's campaign. It's honestly a mix of everything that makes Halo feel so damn great.
-Awesome music
-Sgt Major Avery Junior Johnson screaming
-A full scale assault which turns into a bloody violent battleground
-Nice (but rather quick) land vehicle section
-A very neat aerial vehicle section
And most of all, The Flood, and not only that you're literally working with The Flood, and then the cutscenes in it. Seeing The Flood crash into the window, and all of a sudden it's all "Oh shit," and of course, the lovely scene where Keyes crashes through a window and comes out, shotgun in hand and kicking ass. Then the final cutscene where Arbiter finally kills The Prophet Of Truth and The Gravemind (unsurprisingly) backstabs us.
"We trade one villain for another,"
Best mission in Halo 3 hands down. What's your favorite H3 memory?

Oh that's an easy one for me. It's definitely Cortana.
hahaha yeah right! I don't know how to pick my favorite but it's between Tsavo Highway, The Ark, and The Covenant. The Covenant is certainly awesome. Taking the warthog into the mountains. Then back down to get on a Hornet. I think I like The Ark even better. I love the desert environment. Seeing that massive airship fly in and drop off troops and your tank. Fighting the scarab toward the end of the level. Tsavo Highway is pretty awesome too. I like the missions that give you some room to breathe and strategically take out opponents. Also having the Covenant Cruiser fly over you at the beginning of the level was jaw dropping.

Why does it look like your character is three feet tall in that video?!?!? Your head is barely above the bumper on the car. Lol

As for Halo 3, I love the mysterious and wondrous vibe at the beginning of Sierra 117, as it feels like the beginning of a Raiders of the Lost Ark movie.

My favorite Halo 3 level would probably go to The Covenant. Ever since The Silent Cartographer, I’ve been a sucker for air assaults that drop you into a hot zone.

That's not my video but you're totally right. I wonder if they were crouching the whole time to help with the perspective.

Latest community update was out 13 hours ago and I missed it lol. Finally some new flighting details for xbox.

Check out the social stream from yesterday - watch them playing some Reach:

As a System Designer on Halo Infinite, I created new Vehicles, Weapons, and Gameplay Mechanics for use in Halo's new campaign and multiplayer modes as a part of 343's Sandbox team. To do this I used 343's internal development tools, LUA scripting, and an intense weekly playtesting process.

As a part of development, most vehicles had to be rebuilt into Halo's new engine, which I was tasked with. Some of my best work includes creation of multiple new vehicles, and making them work in both a single player and multiplayer capacity. I also made previously ignored vehicles viable and fun again in multiplayer again via tuning and iteration.

This from Saturday I believe. I think we knew it was coming soon but nice to get confirmation that memory issue has been resolved. I guess they mentioned it in one of the community updates too but my mind is gone. So here is another article on it.

Ugh went into the Halo thread and literally every single post is a shit post. Ignoring the posts and just listening to the sounds was actually pretty cool. Will be fun to see how Infinite uses all the different sounds they've captured. From the videos alone we can infer that there are going to be a lot of outdoor elements as well as a lot of wildlife. I like it.

Yeah, every Halo thread on Gaming goes to shit pretty much instantly.

Oh well, it's ok here at least, and you keep us informed of all the latest Halo news. :messenger_halo:

RSB RSB for real. I've played both Halo 4 and Halo 5 a bunch and I can see various parts from each that are done really well. It gives me optimism that 343 can put together a solid game. Anyway, I'm nearing the end of my night shift. I missed this from last night. Not a whole lot of information, but nice nonetheless.

Yeah, I'm not all doom and gloom about 343 and Halo Infinite as a lot of people seem to be nowadays.

The main thing about Halo Infinite for me is if 343 is willing to go back to basics with the gameplay. So far they've already shown how they're going back to the old artstyle, which is encouraging.

BTW, do we have an ETA for Reach on the MCC? Replaying that Campaign at 4k60 is gonna be awesome.

Bah!!! Just a bunch of Sony fanboy console warriors all jaded that Killzone (“the Halo Killer”) is dead and gone. 😜

I thought 343 almost achieved Bungie level success with Halo 4. Just a few tweaks to the campaign and the multiplayer and 343 would have nailed it. I personally love Halo 4 multiplayer, but I understand some of the complaints. But the complaints were actually just little tweaks, like getting rid of a few abilities and the random drops. Everything else in the multiplayer was spot on, IMO.

I’ll stay positive and hope that 343 can knock it out of the park with Infinity. Making Infinity a launch game is a great move and if it’s a hit, the next Xbox will be a success.

Yep. I think 4 was a great game that could have been better with some tweaks like you mention. I'm not a huge fan of abilities, but i think removing the jetpack and removing the promethean vision would have done wonders. Go ahead and remove invis as well, leaving sprint and the rest of the stuff like holograms etc. What 343 did with halo 5 was smart by removing a bunch of optional stuff and just making everyone have a few default abilities. I'd still prefer a return to classic halo but Halo 5 matchmaking is pretty solid and fun.

I don't think 343 has given us anything official on when it will come out. Just getting flighting to xbox one should be a big hurdle overcome as the memory issues were a problem. So, hopefully things are downhill from here on out.

Here's some random personal clips. Hadn't posted anything in a while. Haven't had much to show lol.

Extermination on Damnation (abusing the rockets). Could have potentially had back-to-back killtacs if my last rocket had killed the guy like it should have.

Made quick work of the other team thanks to letting my teammate get mauled. Missed the killtacular by seconds unfortunately.

Comeback killtacular on Hang'em High - I wish I had realized there was one more guy behind me when I went for the fifth kill. Oh well.

Anyone get in on the Halo: Reach MP flight? I signed up day one for both PC and Xbox and haven't heard a word.
I didn't sign up this time. Mainly because I didn't want to have to reinstall everything and then do it again once the game finally releases.

Havoc2049 Havoc2049 still no luck with an invite?

EDIT: nevermind.. I'm sorry

LTTP per usual. Community Update from last night:

Cool tidbit confirming forge for infinite:
"This information from the final Halo: Outpost Discovery event in Anaheim has made its way through most of the Forge community, but we wanted to make sure to highlight it here for everyone in the broader community as well. Michael Schorr, our Forge Lead Designer (Forge Lord), was able to confirm two very exciting pieces of news at one of our community-hosted "Forging Worlds" panels. Those two bits are:

Yes, Halo Infinite will have Forge
Forge will have Undo/redo buttons
While this may not seem like huge news to some, it means the ability to create worlds to others. And yes, Undo/redo buttons deserve to be a bullet point here as well.
These have probably been the most requested Feature since the launch of Forge in Halo 3, back in 2007, and we're excited to be finally be able to deliver this to fans in Halo Infinite."

Good news everyone - the thread is still alive!! I got scared when i went to check neogaf this morning and the thread had been moved to the archives. Evilore put us back in business :messenger_fire: Looks like the mods have been trying to clean up the community and off-topic sections.

So what are your best and worst personal memories from playing Halo? Not real specific, but Halo CE LAN's and playing through the campaign for the first time were the penultimate. I still like the story of CE the most, maybe due to its mystery and my love for the Halo 1 pistol has not wavered. My worst memories are probably from Halo 3. Fantastic game. Fantastic new additions to the game with Forge and Theater. It just wasn't for me and the more I tried to like it by playing it the more frustrated I got. Even with that being said, I still had a lot of fun times playing Halo 3. Many of my favorite maps are less popular (but not all): Construct, Standoff, Citadel, Rat's Nest, and The Pit.

So recent news. After Tim Longo left 343, Mary Olsen was supposedly taking over the roll, but now she has left too. Based on the article, they think perhaps she was never actually meant to be the replacement.

Finally, for those that don't know, I'm a huge Big Bang Theory fan. I was googling Bert from the show and apparently he had a part in Halo 2 as one of the grunt voices lol. "You can't hide from me!"

Edit:
Here is a 2 minute clip of random gameplay on Derelict if you're bored. I had a killing frenzy going, but nothing too incredible. Taking advantage of power ups again in this one.

My worst Halo memory would be the day my Halo Reach edition 360 Slim died (I was playing Gruntpocalypse on Corvette) Thankfully it was still under warranty and got it replaced for free.

My best Halo memory would be playing Halo CE on Legendary Co-op for the first time. I had only played the game solo on easy, but one day my cousin convinced me to play with him on Legendary.

Up until then I considered Halo CE to be an ok game and that's about it, but that day, playing Legendary Co-op with my cousin, I realized what an incredible game Halo CE really is. Now it's my favorite game ever.
