Instead of completely bypassing the game, I tried it on game pass. Didn’t like it. So I deleted it. Sounds like the dev got the better end of the exchange.

Good game. The English voice acting is impressively bad.
Who knows what this story is about, there is some evil old guy, magic dragons, zombies, evil red vines everywhere, some weird mind control poison, and just a bunch of random nonsense.
I am starting to get tired of the friendly NPC, I can't stand how they kill people for you, it's such a handicap, but they are also part of the story so I feel I can't dismiss them.
Even with all the parrying, it still feels very Nioh to me, which is a good thing.
I also get some weird white flashes and some frame drops.

I was having such a good time in that tutorial era, and then came the first boss and I got a rude awakening when I had "killed" him, because here was phase 2.
I hate that shit. Hated it in DS3 and I hear Sekiro is even crazier when it comes to that, like bosses where it's 3 or 4 phases. A good reason for me to never continue with that game.
This first boss would have been fine enough if it was just phase 1. He rushes you like crazy, barely have time to breath (so to speak) and it's the fucking tutorial area man, come on.

Problem was that I was out of potions, and the 2nd phase caught me off guard. Plus I need to practice dodging the red attacks.

Some of the later fights are tough. You basically almost have to perfect parry everything. I am about 4 bosses away from finishing the game.
I would argue though that Sekiro is harder than this game when it comes to boss fights imo.

This is Team Ninja we're talking about here; the first run-through of the missions is basically a warm-up!
Playing on Way Of The Nioh (NG+5) is whole other thing to straight NG, and not just because of straight stat-scaling although that is a major incentive to craft builds but extra enemies and moves get added forcing you to maybe re-think your approach.
This for me is basically why their titles are superior to FROM's for pure longevity. NG+ in pretty much every Souls' franchise title is basically the same; the hook being to see a different ending. Whereas TN's approach is to continue to evolve the combat raising the skill ceiling as it goes on.
I'm pretty confident in predicting this given that Wo Long is basically the 4th title in a series that amazingly only really began 6 years ago, with each of its predecessors incorporating a year-long season of DLC expansions. Their productivity (especially considering the disruption caused by the pandemic) is frankly on a whole other level to their contemporaries.

Tried it, much prefer or actually rather play Nioh. Don't know why we have this instead of a current gen Nioh. Oh well.

you don't dodge red atacks...you parry them....
that is your opener to do big damage.

The first phase you can just spam attack and he will get interrupted all the time. You only have to worry about parrying the red attack.
Second phase is annoying, especially it is hard to practice the fight since you need to beat the first phase.

Great game having fun with this. I haven't beaten any souls games or sekiro because I suck at that shit. Combat feels good to me maybe that's why and parrying is lenient Got through a couple bosses already. Shit is fun and there's a dlc set of armor that's free until the 16th on the store as well

I would say though, there are some visual interference when fighting, if you fight 3-4 guys at once, AND you have one of your dumbass friends with you, trying to discern who to parry and when is just nonsensical. Everyone is just running into each other and everything is just a blur.
But so far, it's noticeably easier than FromSoftware games, so it doesn't matter too much. I'm still only 2 hours in though, so I expect it to kick my ass soon.

I got him by doing the following.
First phase: Attack him aggressively, parry or avoid red attack and repeat. Go for the critical attacks when he's staggered.
Second phase: Keep distance, pretty much run in circles to avoid attacks and parry the red attack. After two parries, as long as he's under 50% HP you can press triangle + circle to unleash an attack that ends the fight. Your partner will let you know when you can use it.

First phase isn't too bad now, doing pretty OK thanks to the tips of you guys but the second phase is where I barely get a hit in. I fail to deflect his attacks miserably and he does tons of damage to me.
I did go back and fought the tiger, I won, so I got some cool gear, but I'm calling it quits for today. It wouldn't surprise me if plenty people just say "nah I'm good" because of this being the intro to the game.

Parry timing is tricky because he have 3 different red attacks with different timing & also depends on enemy distance from you.

I love that feeling, I the feeling I had when I got past the first phase, thinking it was the only phase, lmao.
Yeah, the first phase isn't too bad anymore. I just rush him like crazy and deflect his red attacks. But the second phase is where it gets bad for me. I keep my distance from him, running around him from a good distance and I try to deflect his attacks so that I can get some hits in. I tried magic too, but that clearly isn't doing shit.
I read somewhere a comment that you can get to morale level 13 or so and then apply lightning to your attacks? Or did he just mean the lightning magic? If the former, the game didn't tell me about this at all though.

Played for two hours just now.
I feel as though I’m taking crazy pills. It’s really not very good but the internet is going crazy over it.
The controls are so floaty and weird. When you attack you feel as though you’re moving along a straight plane. The enemies are also total sponges, which I hate.
Dark souls/Elden ring is so much more fluid. You feel as though you can express yourself in your attacks in those games.
I keep trying to trick myself into liking it because the setting, the loot, the systems and how damn sexy my character is all tick my boxes. But the moment-to-moment gameplay is lame as hell.

Are there soft caps for point distribution? For example, I put 18 points into Fire and maybe 6 or so into Life or that particular element. That means I then equip gear that boost fire and utilize fire magic. If I do what I do in NiOh I’ll make my character essentially weaker to say lightning or water because all my gear is boosting fire? For whatever reason I’m not utilizing magic because I focus on melee.
I’ve seen some different magic abilities on equipment but I don’t think I can notice it. Maybe it’s too soon to tell. Idk if this is that technical of a game like NiOh was.

Is there any way to turn off the on screen tips when fighting bosses? I can’t seem to find an option and it’s ridiculous how much it obstructs the view. I don’t need to know to hit Y or B on the fourth boss ffs…

Game is honestly kinda boring after a couple hours. You can just steamroll through everything. Level design and loot system only marginally better than the Nioh games. Glad this is a Game Pass game.
I guess I’ll keep playing with the hope that it gets better, I dunno.

Btw, kinda disappointed with this, it seems like your average soulsborne with the usual Tecmo Nioh cheap skin over it.

At the first boss, still getting used to button presses. A lot of it is timing when to use attacks. Double pressing the dodge to create distance since one button press doesn’t get you very far. Using a martial art after parrying a red attack can open up for a critical.
Like Nioh it feels like an ebb a flow of being defensive then knowing when to open up and unleash your offensive. Looks great when you are doing it right, and embarrassing when you aren’t haha.
So far I think it’s fun.

Its hard, its definitely harder then all the dark soul games, not as hard as sekiro or ninja gaiden though, best advise i can give you is parry every special move an enemy throws at you, doesn't matter what weapon you use because you'll always do huge damage, id also put alot of exp in everything except for metal (unless your really wanting to use magic but most bosses dont give you a chance to use them) but for the first 2 chapters definitely invest in wood and abit in fire and earth, water is decent to

Well, I enjoyed Sekiro a lot, and was just a few fight away from a platinum so this shouldn't be overwhelming. I'll need some time to warm up but it should be doable. Thanks for the input.

parry seems easy
but i use the open with the highest deflect ratio. i also use super light armor. i think this two combo makes it easier to parry
which i prefer instead of running around in a heavy bulk of armor
i remember renouncing all my armors and stuff when facing malenia. beat her with a rundown light armor randomly put together lol
