Ive been maining a double sword weapon which dropped in the first level. Just a 1-star but it has the Beckoning Pine martial art which has been awesome. Ive levelled it a bit but havent found the martial art on any other weapon so I hope there is a way to extract the art later on.

I can't by the dumb second boss that giant monkey. Anyone want to help.
Bait his red critical with a parry. Run around and he’ll fly across the arena to you. Hit a couple times, drop your spirit, and it should not take very long.

You can do it. :)

I finished the game. Honestly the basic difficulty is clearly too easy, bosses become a joke near the end, it's a shame because they seem well designed (although i didn't like the final bosses, pretty underwhelming).

Every level should have been like
the snow level with Lu Bu
, completely open with some enemies with a high morale level. The levels after that are way too linear and mobs are endlessly recycled it becomes a chore, completely uninteresting.

The new difficulty unlocked at the end must be interesting for bosses but i'm not sure i want to replay the levels and search for the flags again.

yeah, after finishing i still feel like it's a 6.5 at best. not sure what anyone could love about it, frankly. maybe it's better balanced in NG+ but the main game was so boring i have no interest in playing anymore. there's like 4 decent bosses in the game and the rest are completely forgettable. even if the difficulty is in a better spot in NG+ it wouldn't help the drudgery of the level design. you can sleepwalk through 90% of this game.

Bullshit.

If you think the average player is going to sleepwalk through this, you are out of your mind.

Thanks for the tips man! I had no idea you can block with LB. Must have missed that tutorial. I thought deflecting was the only means of blocking. That helped immensely. Beat him first try after your tips!

In the second phase you should try and wait for the lunge which he winds up, and stay at medium range for it. Every deflect counts but focus on the red critcals and then guard or dodge through the normal swings.

You can hold guard LB/L1 and then hit B/O to deflect at any time. It helped a lot when I figured that out, because I first thought you should either wait to deflect OR guard but you can actually keep guard up a lot of the time and deflect from there. To mitigate some damage. With the Enhanced Defence wizardry + guard up I didnt take much damage from normal swings, except for draining the spirit bar..

But just focus on deflecting and punishing those until you get fatal strikes. And recast the enhanced defence each time hes down.

Thank both of you very much! I nearly gave up on this game as I just couldn't get past this boss as I was trying to deflect every attack and that was especially hard in the second phase. After reading your posts best him on the first try.

I'm glad the game offers co-op, it's a lot of fun. I already would have given up on the game if it was solo only. Because it really seems the game is super reliant on deflecting, and this is something I just can't seem to fully master. Some boss fights don't seem to give much chances for deflecting either.

So then I'd like to see my normal attacks do some damage, but sadly these attacks don't seem to do much at all. But if you've mastered deflecting, these bosses aren't that bad at all. Would've liked some balance here.

Also magic, maybe I'm doing something wrong but these spells barely seem to hurt bosses. I have the fire tree at 10 and spells like fireblast and scorch comet. And they barely do any damage. In From games this is definitely balanced better I feel.

Really interesting to see the different takes on difficulty here.

Just beat the sixth or so boss. No idea how im upgrading my character, just choosing wood and water cause of the stat bonuses.

I will say that Wo Long feels like an action game disguised as an RPG. I

Like Nioh 1 and 2, it feels great to play, but the extra mechanics bogs it down. Not a boast but I haven’t gotten into the wizardry mechanic at all yet and still just playing it like an action game seems fine.

Was hoping for better level design, and so far it’s just a bit better then Nioh 1 and 2, but not entirely what I was hoping for.

I’m playing “loose” like The Stooges and it seems to be working out for me.

Unfortunately have to agree.

Also the fact that most enemies have their back to you for a juicy back stab - cmon Team Ninja are you getting soft?

And they really need to work more on their level designs and enemy variety - both lack big time.

And while we're at it, please hire some decent writers and make an ok story for once :D

TN is one of the best action game teams around today, but have room for improvement in a lot of areas.

Finished it today and while I had fun I unfortunately have to say that I'm definitely done with the game now after
a single playthrough.

This game seriously lacks the build depth of a NiOh that makes you come back and experiment again and again, and while the parry fighting is fun and looks cool for a while it also feels extremely shallow compared to the special moves and combos you could unlock/learn in NiOh.
Together with the seriously lacking tech the very light difficulty and generic setpieces and bosses this feels like fastfood somehow.

Bosses look fun on hard mode though. I replayed the first chapters after finishing the game. But the morale system forces you to clear the areas again, i just can't.

I'm also tired of this RPG bullshit, it's not what the game is about, they should've dump all this crap like From Soft did with Sekiro.

for the average player who plays these type of games, yes

Just out of interest give me a few games like this that you consider to be significantly more challenging.

Not that its a contest, I'm legitimately curious as to what games you feel offer a more satisfying challenge. I mean, I don't doubt that some people are going to find NG in this game none too taxing. But the difference between a top 2% player skill-wise and the average is immense.

Lu Bu is not that difficult to memorize, but he has a big health bar. I am super under level according to what I’m reading online. I’m a level 41 and I’m reading that you need to be 76+ for this boss. Is this true? I feel like I’ve done pretty good so far. I don’t feel like it’s a skill thing. I think it’s going back on wanting to take more damage and waiting it out sucks. My weapon is at 350 rating. It’s just barely doing any damage. I kinda get bored watching him run around, shoot an arrow, and eventually jump off his horse. I got him down to a quarter life and I felt like had I had more power, he would have died.

The problem is more about the consistency. People tends to struggle with the first boss and
Lu Bu
, but the rest is (more or less) ridiculous.

It's like playing Sekiro and every boss after Genichiro is "super easy", it doesn't make sense.

That spoiler boss isn’t hard, but there’s no real damage reward after consistency following the patterns if you’re a low level. To me, that’s cool for some players to go bare bones, enhance themselves to oblivion and one shot the boss. I just don’t feel like the tools are there. Something just doesn’t add up. Running around after like 10 or so critical parry’s means something isn’t there. I feel more comfortable about my battle with SS from Sekiro.

Played the first mission. Really enjoying it so far. After putting in almost 300 hours into Nioh and Nioh I knew what to expect.

Wo Long isn't trying to be a Sekiro clone, its an ARPG with a heavy emphasis on switching builds to suit the situation. So it kinda makes sense that not every boss stresses the same single mechanic. Yes you can powerlevel your way through on NG, but on higher difficulties you will need to make use of more of the toolset offered because its almost a foregone conclusion that stat stacking won't be able to keep up.

I suck in at parrying so i cant play games like sekiro.

But theres many option to build here and currently im using main earth with spear and i can just bumrush nearly all boss except that one specific person.

Surpringly all bosses also fall quite fast less than few minutes.

Level 41 is high on Lu Bu. I think people are around 30-35 when they fight him. Level 76 is super-high, I'm not even sure you gonna reach that before you finish the game.

I got there at around level 30, I got one-shotted, but got some better gear, did some sub-stories, came back at level 40-ish and it was fine. He's just a bit of a tank.

I think people get into the mood of trying to parry everything, but blocking is super powerful in the game and you should use both.

I agree that the mobs are recycled too much, but I think the pace is good. Sure, it's quite a bit easier than the Nioh or FromSoftware games, but going from level to level faster is fun too.

I think it's good with some different takes on difficulty, I think a lot of people are tired of getting stuck in some of these games for hours, trying to get past some areas. Loosening the knot is fine.

Blocking omg you’re right. I just tried that approach

Idk where I got this fear of not blocking

Yeah, you only gotta watch out so don't lose all your spirit when you block, as you get stunned if you do, but generally, blocking will stop all his arrow bullshit and normal attacks. Just pay attention at the end, he starts using two red attacks in a row.

Blocking is super OP in the game, if you can just get used to watching the spirit meter and watch out so you don't stun yourself by blocking non-stop, once that clicks, the game becomes easier.

Arrived to mission 4. I'm glad the only Sekiro moment until now was the first boss. If that was the regular difficulty for all bosses I would ditch the game. I can only put so much effort in a From game. For clones I have less patience. Fun game, by the way, but poor narrative, I don't understand a shit of what the story is.

Here's my fight with Lu Bu; I think I was around level 35. (As you can see I was sloppy in the beginning, but I picked up the pace fast.)

"

But, yeah, block at all times; you can even deflect while still holding block. Just keep an eye on your spirit gauge.

Here is mine half way through. I choked on a few attacks but I did this at 5 AM because I couldn’t go back to sleep.

I didn't try to powerlevel my way through. I wasn't overleveled so if the difficulty isn't consistent (and it's not about the build, the 2 bosses i mentioned will be "hard" in any case, the rest willd be easy regardless of whether you optimized a build) it's really the game's fault i think. And honestly this is where this kind of games gets ambivalent. It feels really one dimensional with the spirit system and the parry mechanic, you can't really say there are plenty of playstyles. It's the central mechanic that prevails for every boss, although i'm sure you can complete your build with some spells.

Of course as you said on hard it's a different story, but I don't think "switching builds" is, in this case, something that really adds to the experience. It's more or less switching elements to take advantage of the boss weakness.

I do think they wanted Wo Long to be their Sekiro but they couldn't let go of Nioh's systems.

Playing that demo and that boss is a monster. I was enjoying the game until that boss. That unblockable super attack is just straight up annoying.

I would rank this as the easiest Souls/Souls-like game I’ve played. Maybe DeS is easier in retrospect but not at the time of release.

Both Nioh games offer a much more robust and satisfying challenge where mastery of both the combat mechanics and boss attacks feels necessary. Wo Long is spammy where positioning hardly ever matters. Boss fights consist of spamming light attacks to build a charged heavy attack then deflecting an obviously telegraphed red attack to do an execute. Repeat 2-3 times. Use spirit beast to bail. There’s a few bosses that break this by creating distance or having some interesting attack patterns but they are far and few between.

Like I didn’t even mess with spells in this game or bother thinking about elements because it’s so unnecessary. The only thing I did was make sure to upgrade my weapon and have a weapon type that matched where I put my skill points. And based on the game’s recommendations I was underleveled by 5-10 levels the whole way through.

Spot on.

I've completed NG+ and the search for flags and the game forcing me to farm morality (killing pretty much all enemies in every map before the boss) is a fucking bafflingly bad decision. It made me pretty much despise the game. MORALITY FARMING EVERY FUCKING TIME I JUST WANT TO GO AND FUCK A BOSS UP IS TERRIBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Probably my favorite Souls boss ever.

I hope that the next DW takes some inspiration from this game. Slightly grittier character designs, have less enemies but make all your hits feel weighty and satisfying.

Is it just me or is the game quite easy, apart from some of the bosses?
And i dont mean that in a 'i'm so good' way, its just i have barely died to normal enemies, even mobs.

I think we've all just levelled up. Playing Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring and Nioh made us all better gamers.

I've never fallen victim to a trap once in this game, for instance (OK, with the exception of a bridge that gave out, LOL) but that's because I've been conditioned by the previously mentioned games. Same with knowing how to tackle enemy mobs, look for enemies on ceilings, etc.

I have gotten to Yellow clan leader. And I should have beaten him by now, but I forgot to heal in the battle. Also his red attack comes at me in a way that I have a hard time seeing it. I am old.

i felt the same with a few of the bosses, camera placement with walls partially disappearing, particle shit flying all over the place and trying to see the move happen after boss goes red, start mashing fecking block/dodge.......ded

Man, I really need to remember to use block. Probably my biggest miss when playing. Aoye was just annoying, but timing the red was needed to be on point.

I think it's a response to the difficulty in Nioh 2, which I assume they felt was a bit too hardcore, so they made this more accessible.

I think it's a response to the difficulty in Nioh 2, which I assume they felt was a bit too hardcore, so they made this more accessible.

To be honest its likely more a response to Stranger Of Paradise which went from relatively easy outside of a couple of fights in a NG, to insanely unforgiving in the NG+ cycles to the extent that even pretty hardcore streamers like Fightin Cowboy dropped the game because it was so unfair.

Nioh 2 had by far the smoothest curve in terms of overall difficulty scaling, although it was by far the most demanding in terms of build crafting because basically no single buff or debuff was ever strong enough by itself, and required the player to have multiple in effect simultaneously to reach peak performance.

Nioh 1 on the other hand was a pretty rough road as they were learning as they went how to handle what amounts to a year-long live service structure. Not sure whether people remember this or not, but on that game with the launch of DLC 1 they had to hard cap level limits for NG+, refunding players above that cap all their Amrita (souls) back in order to pull it back into line. They also had to meticulously block a whole list of exploity techniques which is why if you look back at build guides for that game, very few of them actually work today.

This is the defining difference between the TN games and FROM's stuff; These are basically live-service games that are done ethically. Up front you know that there will be 3 major DLC drops, each one of which will add a set of new missions and a higher difficulty and gear itemization tier. Somewhere along the way they'll also add a final mega-dungeon (999 floors in Nioh and Stranger, 100+33 in Nioh 2) which serves as the proper end-game grind.

Nioh and Nioh 2 also modify level populations on the main campaign as DLC adds new enemy types, although what they tend to do is basically end up with essentially 2 layouts that alternate between NG+ cycles. Its basically why I feel comfortable in dropping the cash on the season pass day#1 because I know that they'll add a ton of new stuff.

On the other hand, waiting a year for the season to finish and getting it all-in-one (usually on sale at that point) could be the right move for you, because by then you'll get the best version at the lowest price; and frankly by the end-game of that the difficulty will stress you no matter how good you are!
