Folks, as you can imagine this thread has generated a significant amount of reports. While the aim of some were to stifle the debate and just rejected by the team, others were more about the OT experience. As the topic caught fire and it was fast moving we didn't want to be too hands-on during a 'developing incident'. It seems to be slowing down now so we're just having a chat on what to do. The options are to merge into the main community offsite thread, or just move to OT and leave a perm redirect for off site linking and maybe close the 'reflects' thread. Any thoughts? We just want to throw this out there so there's no suspicion/raised eyebrows when we do eventually move it. It's purely about giving OT their light hearted, drama free board back while keeping this one open for those interested in a more suited sub board. We will consider thoughts and any input as always. We'll probably plan to move it in the next hour or two if there's no strong objections/compelling counter points.

Maybe we need a fifth forum aside from Gaming/Comms/OT/Pol called "Shit-Shows"
and move this threads there.

My point of view on this tragedy.

I don't think we will see any change in the short period, Era situation is very different from Gaf back in the day.
First, Gaf meltdown was created mainly by lots of people who felt banned for wrongful reason who were cultivating hatred for a very long time waiting to see GAF to burn. People who just take the chance when the controversy started. ERA is still a relatively young forum.
Also ERA community lived within GAF for some years before the collapse. There's no such thing as GAF users on ERA. There isn't a community who have an active role specular to ERA trends inside ERA.

I also disagree with who think reddit and other forum want to hide this story. In fact, just typing "resetera shit" and you'll find lot of talsk on reddit about the ERA shitness. Remember reddit maybe don't love ERA but at the same time is full of people banned from GAF,. They don't like GAF either, they simply don't care. At the same time I see lot of community complain about Era mods and their nazi behaviour, something even worse than GAF before the meltdown.

Ultimately, and I regret to say it, the controversy started by the OP is quite bland. She typed some words in the search bar looking for something controversial, and... obviously she found it! It's something anyone else would do?
Screenshot shows mostly sentences taken out of their context, creepy yes but not much relevant. She then complained with the ERA admin who clearly he has no power on that discord channel.

The more I read her posts, the more I feel that while OP is complaining about ERA, she looks like a typical product of ERA. I see on her a worrying pattern you can find in lots of user from that site:
-extrapolation of words or sentences to solidify her position (typing controversial words... really????);
-attitute to see things just black or white (they talk about loli and pedo -> there is a pedo problem)
-tendence to simplify arguments and see just two side (admin not agree with her -> he is against me/ he is part of the problem).

No, for me those screenshots aren't a prove for a real controversy.

But

BUT

they are the clar evidence of the ERA admins fallacy and hypocrisy.

They surely know lot of their audience not only don't agreed with them, but in fact, they feared them.
Their community knows ERA is not "the safe space" mods happily claims and they know they cannot speak freely.
They show how people who act as they have a superior morality have, in fact, something to hide.
There really are discords secret channels and mods try to investigate on them.
This controversy maybe is not meaningful, but surely it is another piece on the puzzle of ERA meltdown.

I agree that people don't care that much overall, especially when we're speaking about a relatively small discussion board. I knew that from the beginning, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't speak about it.

I'll defintely stop posting for now unless something big happen on Resetera's side. I know I've already said that earlier, but at that time I'm done. There's no need to anymore.

Resetera's hypocrisy is in plain sight now and it's hard to argue that the more we dig, the more serious it gets. The story already got a lot of attention, Resetera's staff are purging everything, made some weird decisions, tried to shift the blame many times... Plus, we're not speaking about whether jacking off to "loli" is pedo or not anymore.

I've been following the reactions from some places, it's obvious some people have a clear agenda. Some others are trying to downplay the whole thing because they feel personally offended at people being weirded by minors depictions or pedo tendencies being displayed publicly, for some reasons.

I'm one broke woman and Resetera have something like 20 moderators, 7 admins and 40,000 zealots ready to throw themselves into a wild fire to defend Resetera's honor. They also have money and contact I don't have. I would like to thanks the few people who helped me, really. You weren't a lot. We did all of this by being 3 or 4 people, just imagine if more people cared. It would have went massive. I did my best though, I slept very little for 3 days straight and I value my health more than all of Resetera's shenanigan. Plus, diving into those kind of stuff isn't really healthy for your mental.

I'm open to mature discussions with Resetera's staff or members featured in the OP. I've already tried to contact some of them, @SinCityAssassin @LordKano for exemple (without any answer back). If they want to talk to me, in a civil manner, without trying to silent me, I'll consider what they have to say.

I also would have preferred Resetera's staff to contact me at some point, just saying that, yes, they fucked up, but that all of those problems would be addressed seriousely from now. That they're changing stuff on the way they're handling those matters. Instead of just trying to downplay everything, sweeping things under the rugs, protecting their precious deviant members until exposed in plain sight, like they did from the beginning.

Just as a quick reminder : If Cerium had looked into the proof I gathered instead of brushing it off, 6 months ago, the problem would have been resolved very fast and I would never have went public about it. I gave him months before going public.

Mature discussions are invaluable, especially in those cases.

I've gave every proof/elements I had left to someone I trust. In case I miss some development, he'll post them in my stead by logging into my account on Neogaf. I'll step back for now, but I'll keep watching from afar now, unless Resetera's makes another weird decision toward me. I promised I'd an interview to someone who contacted me though and a promise is a promise.

Looks like ERA staff are just censoring every mention of this though...so hit them where it hurts- make all the companies that put ads on Era know about this. I think a lot of the site's revenue comes from their paid membership tiers, but taking out a chunk of their ad revenue will definitely affect their day to day operation.

Agreed. The main issue is the hypocrisy given Era’s stances/rules and banning discussion of games with sexualized minors.

The other stuff is gross IMO, but pretty typical loli/Weaboo stuff with some discussion of differing ages of consent across countries. There could be some actual child porn/pedo stuff going on among participants, but none of what’s been shared thus far proves (or disproved) that.

People are just hoping more digging happens that unearths evidence and Era collapses. Personally I don’t care as it’s a moot point as the majority of crazies causing problems aren’t associated with that Discord or pedo stuff and if they wanted off Era they’d just go elsewhere or make another site. Just to answer a question that a lot of people I've been asking : no, I don't think watching safe content with underage people in it is a problem in itself. If you enjoy safe "moe", Card Captor Sakura or just like story with young people in them, it's fine. There's also a difference between a girl that has not reached the age of consent and a legally aged girl that looks extremely young. This is something everyone should keep in mind considering that (1) anime girls are drawings not drawn realistically and (2) Asians have a very high occurrence of neotonous traits.
