Hmm. I wonder if this will run on my gaming laptop. It runs Cyberpunk fairly well.
Cyberpunk is more demanding. Psychonauts 2 looks great and runs smooth.
At max settings i get about 140-160 fps in Psychonauts 2
in Cyberpunk i get about 55-70 with my RTX 2060

Played for about a half an hour and loving it so far. They don’t make games like this anymore.
They don't make Hey Arnold! cartoons anymore, for some reason I associate this game with Hey Arnold. Probably the art style and unusual characters.
Every aspect in Psychonauts 2 has been flowing beautifully, you can tell there is no filler like in most games.

Good god the overworld is phenomenal, I played for hours just exploring and doing side quests in the questionable area. It might be the most impressive overworld in a 3D platformer I've ever seen. It's stuffed to the gills with cool shit to discover and great narrative moments. I was wondering if they'd be able to out-do whispering rock and they exceeded my expectations by far.

Beat the game in 13 hours and that's with decent exploration. 100% will probably be around 15 hours or more.

Amazing game. One of my top 5 for this year which includes Returnal. I believe the other 3 spots will easily be taken by Halo Infinite and Forza 5 and possibly BF 2042 assuming they are as good as I want them to be. Despite all the delays, still a fantastic year with plenty to play and look forward too.

Just started the game.

No way the recap at start do justice to first part.

Game was funded via Kickstarter and is quiet obviously made for fans of the original.

Playing part 1 still. Just got to the Napoleon level. This is genius man. What a game. I think I'm going to have to try Brutal Legend as well.

Brutal Legend amazing too. Infact all Double Fine games are worth checking out.

My wife is mocking me now, because in the span of the last few months I‘ve been saying:“This game is my GOTY” at least four times. First it was Death’s Door, then The Ascent, recently Hades, and now Psychonauts 2. But this time I think it is for real - this game is exceptional in pretty much every way.

Nice to see the praise this gets. Soon I’ll start the first game (for the first time ever) then after finishing it will jump straight to the sequel.

Having never got into the original (and pardon my ignorance) but is this game something along the lines of a Mario 64 type 3D platformer, or am I completely wrong here?

It is a 3D platformer yes. I don't think I would compare it to Mario 64.. I'm honestly not sure what you would compare it to. You play as an acrobatic psychic kid that delves into the minds of people which presents unique stories and gameplay. No other platformer really carries a story like Psychonauts. I would just give it a go. It's honestly fantastic. Both games are great, but jumping straight into 2 is fine.

It's definitely in that genre, maybe a little closer to Rayman 2 than Mario 64, but it's a lot more narratively driven.

Where Mario has these pretty small, abstract levels, Psychonauts has much longer surreal levels with a lot of setpieces and cutscenes and dialog as you go. The hub world is also a lot bigger and full of characters to talk to and side missions, giving it a bit of action adventure flavor.

The big part of the appeal of Psychonauts is the sharp writing which is often laugh out loud funny, and the amount of crazy creative shit it throws at you at every turn.

I’d say it’s closer to something like A hat in time. If your familiar with that game.

I can't believe how much I am liking this game. Normally I don't like kiddie-looking games nor do I like platformers. I figured since it was on Game Pass I go ahead and try it and uninstall it after about 1/2 hour, but I've been playing the hell out of. I love it it and its all I've been playing.

Game Pass is burying me in Games. I've never played Myst and really want to play it, that's out today I think. I haven't finished Hades yet (that one is going on the back burner for a while). I downloaded Greedfall because I wanted to play that for ages but can't ever seem to get to it and I've hardly been answering the "call of the skies" with FS 2020 lately with everything else Xbox is throwing at us. There needs to be more hours in a day or I need to give up sleeping. I did love and finish the Ascent at least.

Is everyone who has Xcloud still able to access P2?

It is not showing up in my Xcloud on Windows 10 (only shows up on Game Pass tab). Xbox Android app -- cannot click "Play".

Was it recently removed from Xcloud? Or just some region issue? (I am in Canada. Haven't had a problem with any other game yet.)

I looked right after you posted this and it was gone. I checked again(on GP PC) and it's back. I had to close and restart it to get it to play. Same with Myst. They both work fine now, I'd guess they were just updating something.

game's fun and has great design and a lot of polish. not at all disappointed, but the comedy in the first game definitely hit the mark more often so far (at psy king brain for reference). Still charming and amusing, but the original had something really special in that regard and that's a super high bar to meet. They've definitely gotten close.

First thing that struck me was the color saturation. Is it just me or does this game seem like the color is almost too intense? Not saying that's a bad thing, looks glorious actually, just surprisingly intense. I own a vast amount of PS4 games and Psy2's color saturation blazes compared to all the others. I go back to Psy1 (the PS2 on PS4 version) and the colors look muted in comparison.

The only other real difference I've noticed when comparing Psy2 to Psy1 is that some sounds aren't quite as punchy as they were in Psy1. Picking up figments had a real punch to them in Psy1, but sound a little weak in Psy2, for example. Maybe I can tweak the game's volume levels to fix that.....

Anyway, I'll be getting into this game more today (just played a few minutes so far) as I just finished up my playthrough of Ghost of Tsushima with the DLC last night.

Never played the first one, if i play this i'll miss something or understand it ?
You'll miss playing a fucking great game.

Also, I have no idea of why anyone would like this one and want to skip the original for any reason.
if anything it's almost uncanny how similar they are in feeling despise the 15 years separating them. Aside for the ramp up in visuals they feel almost like two halves of the the same thing.

If after few minutes you think color saturation is too much then better strap your seat belt.

Timeless game is timeless. You could play it in 50 years and it would still be good.

Of those, Returnal and R&C are the only ones I think are really gonna be in that conversation. Ascent is like a 7/10 game and everything else is predictable sequel fodder, not the kind of stuff that is going to get GOTY buzz.
I absolutely love insomniac but ratchet is far from game of the year. I actually can't believe the amount of places that gave it 10 out of 10. I platinumed it in one weekend and I never platinum games.

It's completely paint by numbers ratchet and even a few months later completely forgettable.

Returnal though.....returnal....now we are talking but I also stand by it takes two and resident evil 8.

Holy shit I thought I was in the game of the year so far thread but I'm in the Psychonauts 2 thread haha.

Back on track, can't wait to play this.

What really impresses, is the way the game takes on some really serious mental illnesses issues and deals with them subtly and thoughtfully. It's the way they use the excellent writing and the utterly stunningly realised worlds in which these encounters take place to make you think about the subject at hand, without ever making you feel totally uncomfortable. It's a very clever platform game, which is extremely enjoyable and unlike many games that try to tackle heavy subject matter, does it perfectly. One of the best games I've played in years.

I mean if I'm placing bets, the 5 nominees at the the VGAs this year are probably gonna be Returnal, Psychonauts 2, It Takes Two, and R&C, and Deathloop.

I don't think enough people played It takes. Two for it to win though, and like you said R&C is a pretty safe sequel. So probably one of the other three.
