If COD Vita were a proper version of BLOPS2 it would probably end up as the best selling 3rd party handheld game of this generation.
On the Vita maybe.

3DS feels like the N64 of Nintendo handhelds. 99% of the hay made is off Nintendo's own software, by any means necessary, even if the hardware numbers aren't tearing it up. I don't think the handheld market is dying, I just think the sector where companies think they can overprice $250 or even $170 handhelds is dead. This industry needs the return of the Game Boy brand, a no frills, no bullshit handheld with an analog stick, four face buttons 2-4 shoulder buttons, and one decent screen for about $99.
How fucking hard is that? Apparently too fucking hard.
On the Vita maybe.
49% of market
Interesting that FIFA Vita sold better than the Wii (and 3DS) versions, but that Madden sold worse than the Wii version.
Decent sales for 360, 3DS and PS3. Shit for everyone else.
Fifa is the EXACT same game on Wii as last year and the 3DS version is still a piece of crap without online and 15fps animations. There really is no reason for fans to pick up this year's iteration on those systems, especially if they didn't provide a particularly stellar experience in the first place.
FIFA on Vita is the exact same as the one released earlier this year.
doesnt help that amazon started charging tax and no more free release date games
So the new ps3 is selling well in Europe and not so hot here?
Sitting on Animal Crossing is plain stupidity and helps no one whatsoever.
Likewise smaller titles could at least add a bit of variety to the system.
A console revision that doesn't make any experience changing changes but makes you pay more for it than the system you usually use?
Its not too surprising, where would the bump come from? Plus I doubt SCEA have even really bothered to market the thing.
Fifa sucks on all platforms. It just sucks more on the 3DS and Wii.
3DS is still lower YOY, despite a relatively new hardware revision and more software than last year. Not great, but higher than I expected.
360 continues its slide, but it's still #1.
PS3 is the big loser here. Worst YOY comparison (maybe -40%) of the year for Sony, and it fell behind 3DS for the first time in quite awhile. Not a lot to be proud of if you're Sony right now.
I hear it's quite good on PS360PC

It's sad that the 3DS couldn't sustain the same numbers it had last year even with the XL, but to be fair there was MUCH more to look forward to for the last holiday season. Even disregarding the beasts that were MK7 and SM3DL, there were at least other notable names (not necessarily quality wise) in the holiday line-up for casuals.
TTT2 < 100K (360 ver = 61%PS3 ver, PS3 ver > Vita HW)
I see a great future ahead for the 3DS, once it hits the $99~$130 price point that is.
Why would they lower the price? It already has a great present.

I think the problem is that gaming dedicated hardware is going away within two generations. It's just not worth it for a world that has phones that play games, goes on the internet, plays music, moves, etc, and only has limited pocket space and money.
Sony learned that even harder than Nintendo, since they priced Vita @ $250 which is good for what the system is, but impossible for a gaming dedicated platform. Can't justify it with consumers.
It's starting to get to where consumers can't even justify $199

So considering it was a 5 week month, Fifa + LBP Vita did at best to push hardware up about roughly 10k (on the assumption it wasn't too far from 40k last month). Ouch.NPD September 2011
Playstation 3: 364K-374K (Calculations deduced from Sony and MS PR percentages) [+16.7-19.8%]
Is this correct?
[360] 270k (49 percent share of current-generation console sales)
[PS3] 218k - 224k (-40%)
[Wii] 57k - 63k (PS3 + Wii 51 percent share of current-generation console sales = 281k)
[3DS] 219k - 249k (PS3<3DS<250k)
It's weird how PES is almost the inverse: amazing on Wii, pretty good on PS2/PSP/3DS, shit on 360/PS3/PC.I hear it's quite good on PS360PC
Edit: Somewhat impressed Vita managed to be over 50k this month
Eh, not that impressive. It was a five-week month, and there were no retail software releases in either the July or August reporting periods.

So the same can be said about consoles and PCs?
Japan is still a place where handhelds will not go away, so even if Nintendo abandoned the dedicated market here they couldn't over there. What will happen is Nintendo will be forced to go back to the actual market interested in these devices with a 99-130 device with 20-30 dollar games at most, with a great battery life.
No, not in my estimation. They are not competing for pocket space. There is a unique and always important element to consoles in living rooms, and their usefulness continues to grow as they add in things like Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Internet, etc. These are things that look wonderful at the center of a living room, and they have as yet not been replaced by some other technology that can do what they can do but more. When that happens, we'll see.
But right now, it's handhelds on the chop block.
I don't know much about the Japanese market, but if I had to make a completely random guess...I feel even in Japan it will fade, just maybe a gen or two longer.
Yup, 4 weeks for August but that's actually an increase for September since August was <10k weekly. Yay for tiny numbers I suppose?Oh, it's still an abysmal number, but it seems like 10k a week is the lowest Vita is going to go for a while. I was expecting the thing to drop even harder.
August was 4 weeks right, so that would mean Vita stayed flat right?
When you can have a tablet in a few years where you can take it on the go to a bunch of personal work and come back home plug it into the tv with an hdmi out and play high quality games on it consoles will be in a shit ton of trouble.
Until a multipurpose device can offer the full control necessary, they aren't going anywhere. Remember Japan plays full console games on the go and is one of the primary gaming sources over there as opposed to here where it's much more about bite sized games. The next mainline Dragon Quest or Monster Hunter doesn't seem likely to move anytime soon
okay, 3ds being at least 50k more than i thought does it a lot of good actually. it's not in a fantastic position, but it's not in a bad one right now, even though it's september and the first full month of xl + nsmb2.
Nintendo 3DS: Above 213K (Was 260K last year)
The 3DS sold less than last September even though MK7, SML, NSMB2, and the XL are out. That´s really bad. Dedicated handheld gaming is dying in the US.
So Madden bundle helped the Vita. Let´s see what COD bundle will do.
+89%
Um...
Not saying that the situation's great, but your stat's referring to the death throes of DS software being added in as well.
Is 295k good or bad for NSMB2s second month?
Wish Nintendo would release digital sales numbers :/

SSF4, Sonic Generatons, Mario & Sonic, Skylanders, Lego stuff. Kingdom Hearts had an okay start too.Has their been a single 3rd party 3ds game that's actually been a success in the USA?
Seems like every game is a flop.
I think "360 ver = 61%PS3 ver" means the PS3 version sold more?
Only 1 that might get a little iffy is NINty
Do you do an awesome 3DS bundle, which might eat sales from the WiiU or do you let it ride, sell a nice 3DS package right along with the WiiU launch
sonic generations, tales of the abyss, and street fighter weren't huge successes, but they all exceeded their publishers expectationsHas their been a single 3rd party 3ds game that's actually been a success in the USA?
