In case anyone was curious as to what it's probably like having a conversation with God Almighty...
Beware the wild rushes, my mother told me
That grow on the bank side along the salt sea
But I being young, I heeded her none
So to the wild rushes the wind carried me
The summer was here and the sun it was high
And to the wild rushes I came by and by
And there took my seat and dipped in my feet
And through the wild rushes, a voice sweetly cried, ah
Come down, my little darling, come closer to me
The water is warm, it is salty and free
I long for your touch, but I won't ask too much
And I, being foolish, walked in to my knees
Come down, little darling, and lay at my breast
Oh, come a little closer and I'll do the rest
I waited so long for a lover to come
And I, being foolish, walked in to my chest, ah, ah
Come down, my little darling, oh farther come in
For deeper the water, the sweeter the sin
My lily lies here, if you'd only draw near
And I, being foolish, went in to my chin
Oh come, my little darling, do you feel my cool breath?
Do you feel my arms around you so warm and so wet?
Swept from my feet, she pulled me beneath
And in the wild rushes, I went to my death
One of my favorite albums of all time by one of my favorite bands of all time. I love a concept album, interweaving narrative across tracks. Pure bliss. Manchester Orchestra hit all the rights notes for me on this release (and several others). I love the intro song, Maze, and then the transition into this one, which is a major highlight of the album.
Couldn't really love you any more
You've become my ceiling
I don't think I love you anymore
That gold mine changed you
You don't have to hold me anymore
Our cave's collapsing
I don't wanna be me anymore
My old man told me
"You don't open your eyes for a while
You just breathe that moment down."
I'm obsessed with songs that crescendo over the duration of the track. This one gives me goosebumps. Perfect ending to a perfect album.
You can go anywhere but you are where you came from
Little girl, you are cursed by my ancestry
There is nothing but darkness and agony
I can not only see, but you stopped me from blinking
Let me watch you as close as a memory
Let me hold you above all the misery
Let me open my eyes and be glad that I got here
A Black Mile to the Surface, The Million Masks of God, and Simple Math are my favorites of theirs. All 3 are perfect IMO.I haven't listened to Manchester Orchestra in years. I loved them at one point. I don't even remember the name of the album or the songs I was into. Might need to check them out again.
You dropped off right when their sound really evolved and elevated. I still enjoy the older albums but their newer output is next level.edit: it was the album "Mean Everything to Nothing". The songs were
