What did you use for the shields? Those models are hot.
The shields are from Kromlech, they have a variety of shield styles suitable for space marines:

As a break in between painting white power armour: they call them Slaves to Darkness, but I call her my Warqueen <3

The greatest irony of the lore is that the emperor was dead set against any kind of religious belief. He was the ultimate atheist.

Would he be an atheist? Is that even possible to be an atheist when you live in a universe with the Chaos Gods, the C'tan, Avatar of Khaine and stuff like Wraithlords that are powered by the souls of dead Eldar heroes?

Of course you can be an atheist in 40k, as you can just not believe in the existence of a god or gods. Btw, if the chaos 'gods' are really gods is very much depending on your definition of the word 'god'. For example, if your definition of 'god' is that it would be the creator of the universe, then none of the chaos 'gods' fulfill that criterion, as they themselves were created by e.g. Eldar sex parties.

Disagree. I'm an atheist in the real world, but if I lived in the 40k universe I'd be a worshipping Slaanesh and getting it like a feral animal on with demons.

That's good for you, but just because you'd worship Slaanesh in a heartbeat, doesn't mean everyone else would 🤷‍♂️

Started back up after a 25 year absence with a Craftworlds army. Was primarily painted just to be able to get it on a table so it's prety average in terms of painting quality.

Currently building an Adepta Sororitas army. I am planning to take my time more with this one seems I have a force I can play with until it is ready.

Atheist in the sense that he didn't believe in a benevolent 'god' that looked over humanity, the way a lot of people do now. I'd say he probably saw the gods of chaos and the alien races as equals, more than anything.

Lore question....

So, I know the Drukhari don't have Psykers and won't happen to the Warp but are there any of them that have some kind of "magic" or innate abilities?

Plus, I heard that at least some of them have psychic abilities but they purposely suppress it, again due to not wanting to tap into the Warp to draw the attention of Slaanesh?

I've never met an atheist that believed in the spirit realm tbh.

Supposedly the new edition that's coming out is going to introduce female Space Marines.

Triggered.

That doesn't make a lick of sense. First, women are pretty well represented in 40K. Other races beside the imperium have female representation and the imperium even has its own female only factions (Sisters of Battle for example). So, if we're getting female space marines, then I want Brothers of Battle!

Second, this is the lore from the horus heresy rulebook.

"The process by which Space Marines are created relies inherently on the hormonal and biological make-up of the human male, meaning that only males can be subjected to the transformation.”

Are GW just going to just ignore they're own lore or completely spin it to please a small fraction of people who don't even play the game?

I doubt it is a thing. I can’t even find any rumor of them being a thing. At most a few rumors talk about battle sisters having a few new models.

Haven't they retconned lore before? They said major changes are coming in 10th edition and there's a lot of heavy rumors about that being female Space Marines.

Googling I could see a lot of different people talking about it. Yes, it's just rumor but it seems like from things Games Workshop had said recently in the past and the fact that they also mentioned that 10th edition is going to have major changes, I wouldn't doubt it. Especially in today's atmosphere.

By the way, I'm not trying to argue with anyone here. I hope you're right about not retconning and including female Space Marines but unfortunately you have to be realistic nowadays and expect the worst because of the current climate.

I ran into this we almost immediately after posting this. I'm sorry to say but Games Workshop is probably going to give in to these types of people.

On a completely different note, I would like to check out Arks of Omen. That sounds really interesting.

I was just told that it's pretty much been confirmed that an update to the Emperor's Children is going to include female Space Marines.

Like I said I'm still sort of new to the setting as I only jumped in a few years ago so I'm not entirely familiar with what he's referring to but that's what I was just told.

That is a bummer if Games Workshop is actually going to give in to the angry Twitter types but I'm not surprised either.

Nothing new, ever since the first Realms of Chaos books it's been a "gift" Champions of Slaanesh could receive that their gender changes. Thus it makes perfect sense if Emperors Children have a whole load of marines that are not your typical male meatbag.

I agree with you that it would make sense in that context. However, I think most of these Twitter mob people want straight out female Space Marines working on the "good side" so to speak. Apparently the Sisters of Battle are not good enough for them. And in this current atmosphere, I can see Games Workshop bending the knees to appease them so I would expect female Space Marines as part of the regular Inperium of Man.

There is no good side in 40k, they are all awful :p and I've heard and read rumours about incoming female space marines for years, so I believe it when I see a Primaris Lieutenant with female head option.

Realistically, there's nothing stopping people who want to build female space marines from just doing head swaps, I've seen some really nice conversion work. Also the other way round, such as this "Mister of Battle" :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Will GW make official female space marines at some point? Maybe, but for the time being I don't see why, as they just recently reinforced in the Horus Heresy that it was the Empeors decision to have only male primarchs. Having a 180 so short after it's been made explicit in the Siege of Terra series would be rather... odd, even for a company like GW. Space Marines are the cash cow for GW models wise, that's why we have more Primaris Lieutenant variants than some other factions have models in total. They will not make any changes that could risk that, so the only reason I see for the sudden introduction of female space marines if the current ones would suddenly stop selling like cupcakes and GW effectively being forced to try something drastically new to sell more plastic soldiers.

I'm not sure we can call the Imperium the good guys.
We have an autocratic, military driven dictatorship that is aggressively racist against anything non-human or doesn't worship the Emperor.

The Imperium of Man is straight up fascist. I know GW might disagree because they don't want to label their biggest money spinner or get the wrong types of fans, but they've dug themselves into that hole and there is no way of getting out of it.

With that in mind, you can see why some people want to change the lore to make the imperium less morally bankrupt.

Well if you noticed I put "good side" in quotations because of course there are no good sides in Warhammer 40,000.

What I meant is female Space Marines who are from the Inperium of Man and not Chaos.

I've said this for a while now, but here we go again.

So you want female Space Marines. Ok, let's just say Cawl pulled something out of his mechanical asshole with one of his mecha-dendrites, and made the breakthrough that allows primaris geneseed to bond with female physiology. Now you have little girls that will also be taken from their families in whatever way that Chapter prefers to recruit/kidnap children from. They will be pushed nearly to the point of death in physical training for years before they receive a single implant. They will be pumped full of insane steroids and growth hormones at the onset puberty before they even get to see if the geneseed will be compatible, at which point they will have a dozen organs implanted into them while conscious, and without anesthetic.

If they survive that ordeal they will continue on a sci-fi steroid regimen that will destroy any capacity for the normal bodily function, but that won't matter, because they will have been brainwashed to the point of their old lives and identities no longer existing. As they pack on muscle their feminine traits will fade as their fat reserves dwindle, and they become indistinguishable from any other male Astartes, other than a useless slit in their groin, as opposed to a useless penis.

Their entire purpose from here on out is to kill. They will destroy the uncountable enemies of the Emperor until they will inevitably die a violent death.

Are you sure you don't want to stick with the Sororitas, an arguably much more interesting faction?

One side has living saints, super human demi gods, one of the founding chapters of these demi gods was led by a literal angel and they were led by the most powerful human in history with a goal in uniting humanity, the other side is the universe out to kill you in numerous ways. And a literal hell with chaos "Gods".
Yes it's paraphrased from somewhere i read online. But man, if i had to chose who the good guys are...
I really don't like throwing the word "fascist" at 40k cause there ain't anything fascist about the setting. Like real fascist. People would beg to live in a fascist state (even the OG ones) than to be on any planet in the Imperium and that's a fact.
It's a broken mess too big to be destroyed, yet so fragile it could fall apart at any moment. And all the hell that is the 42nd Millenium is due to some historical event that took place more than 10k years ago. A myth to most. Things of legends and tales before bedtime. Yet that legendary event was so grand that it almost brought death to all. Humanity endured, scarred for eternity to come.
I looooove the grimdark setting. It's over the top, cheesy and corny, i don't see anything overtly fascist in it other than some vague political (and military doctrines). It's just in the right spot of Rule of Cool to work.

So please don't change, show me humanity at it's worst.

That's how i wanted to say hello and join the comunity :D

I love the universe and lore of 40k, still too poor to get into it, but wiki's, lore videos, and video games sure keep me entertained an in the loop since Space Crusade and Space Hulk on the A500.

I'm hear for a specific reason - i've got a boardgame with a few tiny minis and i'm getting ready to paint them. I just have a problem wih priming them. It's winter here with temperatures waround the point of freezing and almost everywhere i read online people say priming outside is out of the question. Now i'm not to keen on priming in door due to the possible stench and me fucking something up and ending with a wall to paint.
So tell me guys. Is it really not doable priming outside at freezing temps?

I love the universe as well and I'm on team Imperium! I don't give a shit if they're religious fascists! I just fear that the more popular it becomes the more GW will attempt to change the lore to make it more inclusive.

Anyway, question to the 40K vets in this thread.

I've toyed with the idea of getting into 40K for a number of years (or wargaming in general - maybe Warlord Games Hail Caesar or Blot Action) . Is it worth building up some models now or wait for 10th edition? Those new World Eater models have caught my eye.

I don't think they'll change the Imperium, but with the Great Rift cutting off a shit load of human civilisations, I can see them having a more progressive culture out in the Imperium Nihilus.

So i finally found out how to prime in winter (doable outside, yeah!) so i'm going to prime my first mini and try to paint it this weekend.

Excited, ngl

Ok, so finished my first priming session. Awful weather outside, chilly and damp but it didn't stop me from work. Now to let them dry and paint.

It was fun. Now i see not all are coated with the same layer (some look like the og color is leaving a shine underneath), but was told by my buddy to leave it. If i can paint on them - then good, if paint won't stick at least i'll learn for the next time 🤷🏻‍♂️

Some of the mini's required a second layer of primer, so did my thing again and now i'm anxiously waiting for my kids to fall asleep and i'll try my first mini tonight.

Any tips, maybe a good video tutorial (there are a ton of them to choose from...)

Those books look pretty good but I'm not exactly sure what they're about. From what I read as something to do similar with space hulks?
