Wanted: Dead |OT| Ex-Team Ninja Gun Fu

Yeah, I just don't know what they were thinking on some of the enemy HP sponge stuff. Ninja Gaiden 2 is great because it has the opposite approach and enemies can be delimbed very rapidly and it keeps the pace up (unlike HP sponge Sigma 2).

A few tweaks would have really given this a shot at true greatness.

The big chain gun guys are not too bad when they're by themselves. As far as I can tell the only way to even fight them successfully is just stay in close so they never shoot and land melee counters every time they strike without fail since 1 hit takes 90% of your life.

Ninjas are tough as always, but at least possible to fight somewhat normally.

If you ever find some pro videos please post them. I'll look for some in a few weeks. I'd like to watch a video of the developers playing through some of that stuff just to know if I'm missing something.

I forget how I equipped my AR and pistol but I was able to beat act 4 boss with mostly pistol , and the AR shreds white ninjas . I basically did a lot of stopping power, armor shred, and damage . Recoil and accuracy didn’t matter.

I could throw 1 Molotov grenade at a white ninja and then 1 clip shreds a white ninja so I didn’t have to melee fight them at all.

Like you said 1v1 anything is fine, but when a room throws a chain gun dude in with shield guys and AR guys you have to work very fast to kill the others to deal with big bad. Also moltovs are best for shield guys . Drop at feet to instantly make them drop shield.

Some good tips, thank you. I have been wondering how best to fight shield guys. I never do it cleanly. Best I can tell you had to attack and have it blocked, then they will melee attack (instead of shoot), then you have to counter that and they drop the shield in 1 counter. It works, but always messy and take a few hits. I'll try to use incendiary grenades a bit more. Just unlocked them.

Here's a clip of me getting killed lol.

I mean ... this is officially the spiritual successor to Ninja Gaiden 2 right? AA and with some issues, but the core components are all there.

Level 4. FYI they hid a chainsaw deep under a ramp.

Boss 4 down. A genuinely great fight.

Kowloon Street is fun so far. Interesting song choice. Its the first level you truly have to stay in cover and slowlyyyyy advance.

I finally had some free time and sat down and played through the first level and also throughly explored Police HQ. My play through was pretty much just like the above video and I really enjoyed myself. I love all the intentional crazy over the top action and characters. For people who like games such as Ninja Gaiden Black, Shinobi, Nightshade, Otogi, Bayonetta, Devil's Third, etc., Wanted Dead may be in your wheelhouse.

Despite the lack of polish and balance issues, this is one of my favorite action games I've ever played. Truly feels like the spirit of NG2 mixed with a TPS, and tons of cheesy humor on top.

This last level is like The Raid almost, and is kicking my ass.

Some of these kill animations are amazing too. I hope someone puts together a compilation video since a few are pretty rare.

The combat looks very John Wick. Would be willing to give it a shot but probably not at full price.
You have to be willing to forgive a lot of balance issues and push through. A few glitches. But when it works its great. And yeah all the kill animations are straight John Wick. There's 50 in the game and some of the ones I've only seen once or twice are really cool.

Game could've been great with more time and funding. As it is now I can't recommend it to people. But for a few people who like AA games with some issues, its really fun.

Wanted:dead was actually better than expected.

I originally didn't want to jump in until a sale but I have a soft spot for these kind of games, and so far I don't really regret picking this up despite some negative reviews.

I think this game is 110% meant not to be serious. The instant I noticed the loading screen being
a reference to an internet meme
I just rolled with it .

This is peak guilty pleasure action movie schlock in video game form. Which makes this kind of a stand out for me with how so many games are loaded with Marvel quips and one liners.

The weird incoming enemy attack ramp up - where it would start slow then suddenly ramp up fast - messed with me for a while, especially not being familiar with the parry window. But after spending a lot of time in training mode I think I got a better hang of it.

Beat the game finally. I loved it. The final level wasn't the weakest like I had heard, but is actually by far my favorite level. It really feels like a claustrophobic Kowloon Walled City nightmare escape against all odds; like the Raid. Really reminds me of some of the level design in NG2 where they purposefully put you inside very close quarter interiors to mix up the combat, even if the camera can't truly keep up.

For me its a 9/10, but thats just my rating and not a recommendation to anyone else since the game is extremely divisive and odds are most people will hate it.

The story is pretty hard to follow but I'm actually into it more than I expected. More cyberpunk / corporate pharmaceutical dystopia than I expected. I grew to like the team as well. Would love a sequel.

I suspect many gave this a poor score because it is a difficult game. Personally, I am loving the difficulty curve. Make sure to get the upgrades!

My score above really didn’t have anything to do with difficulty to give it a lower score. You can be a love letter or homage or even old school in design without being a bad game in many regards.

I like the game, had fun with it, and want a sequel. Even the people in here who like it can’t in good conscience recommend it but to a very niche selection of folks. A game can be fun even if it’s bad. It’s just many may get caught up in the bad to not get the fun out of it.

There’s definitely a market to the “bad game” genre. Deadly Premonition proves that. Hell in Japan they even call it Kusoge, correct ? It’s where guys like Suda51 and Swery fall into these days.

They need to lean into it more, but also tighten up gameplay elements. A scoring system to increase replay value alone would’ve helped elevate this game a bit more.

Tip for players as the game doesnt tell you, but you can parry the shield attacks from the normal police guys. ignore the game cause that states you can use the charge attack which is more risky in my opinion. Tactic is basically go infront of the shield holder. Start attacking , shield guy will want to bash you with the shield at which point parry. Do this two times or even once and they drop their shield

There are lots of strange little tips to share. But yes, you must parry the shields to remove them quickly.

Use handgun as much as possible since it has infinite ammo. Brown and white ninjas are weak to handgun at mid range since they don't throw shuriken. They won't immediately close the distance so you can hit them with 5 rounds frequently and it softens them up.

Headshots do dramatically more damage than body shots.

Assault rifle ignore accuracy stat and pump damage.

Handgun go for damage, stopping power but don't sacrifice range.

Don't forget that with the upgrade you can block 2 hits. Chaingun guys only ever do 2 hit combos for the most part at close range. Watch out for their unblockables and block first then parry the easy hits. You dont have to parry 100% of the hits.

Parry has a veryyyyyy strangely long window at times. If you hit the button and hold it, sometimes it feels like the parry is valid for like a full second. You'll see what I mean.

Incendiary grenades are basically a time freeze move. Use it for crowd control or to block choke points. You can also hit a ninja with it and just sit back while they burn and hit them with 15 free handgun shots.

Welp, I can no longer say that I have never gotten my ass kicked by
Tom Cruise boss and his doppleganger
in game form. I just had the dumbest grin on my face when I realized what just happened.

Even the name of the boss was a not so subtle reference lol

Cool. I'm down to try it. If it doesn't work,I could just give it to another person in uk
And only the BRITTS can be happy😡

I'm no stranger to action games (I ranked top 500 on the NGB leaderboards back in the day, and I loveee the Souls games) but I feel like most of Wanted's challenge comes from fighting mechanics and bad design rather than dying because of lack of skill. Wanted is still a solid game but I think it has obvious flaws.

Damn what a game. Finished after 9 hours. I'm a sucker for john wick gunfu kinda shit, i really enjoyed combat music and atmosphere. I even liked the voice acting, as it felt fitting for the characters.

Last levels non stop action gets tiring after a while and feels rushed, hard as hell too because of that inconsistent ass parry system.

Biggest selling point is finishers and many of them feels great. Some gun finishers waits for your input at the end and feels satisfying pulling the trigger as a killing blow, i really enjoyed these ones. Not all finishers have that kind of interaction and just plays automatically. I really wanted to be more interactive during finisher, not just sit and watch. Not talking about some fakin qte of course.

Overall great game and great change of pace from current games, want to see next installment with better gameplay and more dynamic finishers.

I nominate Ryu Hayabusa and Mega Man as the two gaming icons most deserving of a comeback.

Okay, Kain & Azrael, as well.

Vectorman isn't so deserving, but lets bring him back anyway.
