True dystopian shit; everyone involved could have gone "Well these smart motherfuckers swindled us out of $750K, and the updates to machines will cost about $5mil, but it was our machines that fucked up. Let's eat the cost and move on. We should count our blessings that this was small scale". The gambling addicts make $750K, the US gov takes half of that in taxes, the machine company eats some crow, and the casinos take extremely negligible losses.
Instead you get years long court cases, the feds spend millions while playing with their dicks pursuing a victimless crime, and one of the guys nearly gets killed in a raid, has his winnings seized, and is still being harassed for "owed taxes". Nearly the worst possible outcome.
