Does anyone here have any tips on procuring a PSP for a decent price?
I want to get one basically solely to play valkyrie profile. Then the three MGS games, crisis core, BoF3, and MM Powered up that aren't on PSN are just a bonus. (I have a vita already).
What I've noticed is that it's hard to get PSP games from legal sources in my country. Wanted to buy Metal Gear Acid 2 recently, because I liked the first game. Nope, no store is selling them and I don't want a used copy from an unknown source.
Europe: Shipping is £3.99 per item.
USA & Rest of the World: Shipping is £4.99 per item.
What an awesome collection, man. Congrats! My collection.
How is the screen on the Go? I think I've read it's the best PSP screen?
it's basically the same as the 3000 but smaller, so better pixel density.
I've actually been thinking about picking up a Go and putting my ripped games on it. Seems like the best option, cheaper than buying another Vita and it should be better than a replacement PSP 2000/3000.

That color was released in NA bundled with MGS Peace Walker - I've got one, and they're quite common over here...i owned every PSP model at one point, but what i have now is a black go for my EU account and a "spirited green" 3000 for japanese stuff. i don't think that one ever went on sale anywhere else but i love the colour, it's like a slightly lighter british racing green:
The aspect and screen ratios for the video out on the PSP Go is exactly the same as the on the PSP2000/3000... No full screen mode for games without CFW... As to needing the docking station, let's put it this way; you can plug the video out cable directly into the PSP Go, but you can only play as long as the batter lasts, because the port for the AC adapter is the same as the video out port. If you have the docking station, it has an additional barrel-type input like you find on the UMD-equipped PSP models, so you can use an AC adapter for a PSP 1K, 2K or 3K to power the docking station and the PSP Go while running your video out on the PSP Go-style port on the docking station. Not having the scanlines would definitely make the Go's screen better, even if the image quality is otherwise pretty much the same.
Ordered me a Go, thinking about accessorizing it. How are the component cables? Does it fill the screen unlike the 2000/3000 ones? And do you need the stand for it, or can you plug the cable straight into the system?
Pretty sure the PSP Go's screen is different (better); it doesn't have the scanline issue.
possible, but the scanline issue is such a non-issue it's hard to tell. in terms of important stuff like response, contrast, colour, reflectiveness etc, it's the same as the 3000.
on another note, is japan really a good place to pick up a go? it pretty much disappeared without trace here, i'd have thought it might be easier to find elsewhere. i bought mine on a visit to the UK.
Best part of buying used systems in Japan? Quality. When I got the LL, the box said "scratches on screen". I asked the guy at the register about it, and he opened the box so I could look at the unit. The thing might as well have been brand new, but because ANY scratches on the touch screen - even the faintest of ones - count as scratches, I got a discount, even beyond the lower price due to it being used.

I agree, they almost always seem to exaggerate the amount of damage a 2nd hand piece of hard- or software has suffered. I guess the Japanese consumer is super picky compared to the Western one.
I'm currently playing on a PSP-1000 when I play, I still have a 2000 but it's disc drive doesn't work anymore because I dropped it on the floor once. :/
Sony portables and memory cards are like toothpaste and orange juice. Why does the Go have to use those M2 sticks. Prices are almost as ridiculous as Vita memory cards.
M2 cards are too small, there are no adapters for them.
Wow, there's no 32GB M2 cards out there? Yuck.
if it's any consolation, Go has 16GB built-in
Can you put a 16GB card in it and use both at the same time? Or is it either/or like the Vita-2000?
You can use both. I do and I love it.Can you put a 16GB card in it and use both at the same time? Or is it either/or like the Vita-2000?
great thread! retro-GAF loves the shoutouts, heh.
for real, this system is such an example of how widely identity can change across a gen - like the vita, many core gamers loved it for its specs/design but not much was going on, then Chinatown Wars & other stuff may've had some thinking it was actually gonna be like a portable Playstation, then it ended up having this tremendous RPG/SRPG/niche library in the end. i love it & still have much left to play from its offerings.
My PSP collection in some panoramic pics from my iPhone:
I am on the look out for Hammerin Hero myself so I can recommend that game. I believe it was one of those games that was available on psn briefly, but has since been removed. Its a wacky sidescroller.Welp...
Seeing as how the PSP games that were finally compatible with vita got re-broken, I finally just pulled the trigger on a psp-3000, which I won for $55 shipped on ebay. Looks to be in great shape as well.
Then I went on Amazon and bought Metal Gear Ac!d, Brave Story, Valkyrie Profile Lenneth, and Mega Man powered up, and a 4gb memory card.
I prefer to play everything on my Vita when possible, but damn! UMDs are cheap!
Anything else that never got a PSN release, or is impossible to move to vita that I should look out for? I guess I should mention I managed to get portable ops onto my vita in time.
The NeoGeo Heroes game and the Ginga Ojousama one came recommended by a friend, so no idea what to expect from them.
It's basically 2 VNs no one cares about and Sapphire.
Is Ginga Ojousama a new copy? How much did you pay for it?Added these to my collection yesterday.

So, how is the PSVita homebrew status?
