Thanks guys. VGP did a final restock on these games so I jumped on it. Who knows if I'll even play them (I've beat all the personas already I just didn't own physical copies)

I've been re-acquainting myself with Crisis Core FF7. I only played it for about 5 hours back in 2009 so it feels somewhat new. I'm maybe 3 hours in now and was struggling in some battles...then I remembered I should play some of the missions, lol. Do any other members join your party in battles, or is it all Zack solo?

You get more characters on the roulette thing but, as playable characters go, it's Zack solo all the way. The missions are addictive as hell. My advice is to look for chests on the mission levels too, you can find some pretty cool items.

Bummer, was hoping some other, perhaps AI only, characters would fight along Zack; not a huge deal though. Thanks for the heads up on chests in missions. I've only played two so far but got better armor in one chest already.
Super late edit but too much crisis core! I'm walking around saying "activating combat mode" to myself lol.
It's kind of one game plus one enhanced version of it. Dissidia 012 is the one to get if you want to give the games a shot since it pretty much contains the original game and more.
So, which of the VGP Atlus reprints should I pick up? I already know that Persona 1 is garbage, and I have Persona 2: IS. Pretty sure I should pass on P3P in favor of the PS2 version.
But what about the other stuff? What should I nab?

Are those two chapters that are on P3 FES important?
The psp version plays like a visual novel when you are outside the dungeon (it's not BAD, it's just different). But on the upside, you can fully control all the characters during battle.

Good to know, thanks. I realized why I had no interest in them, I only had my PSP-1000 at the time and the d-pad is so terrible I never looked into any fighting games.

Those 2 chapters are not worth replaying the game to see. They really aren't even worth playing. I beat the game on psp and watched the ps2 content on YouTube.
Nope. No way. Persona 1 was like... one of the least enjoyable RPGs I've ever played. I think I got up to the boss that's like... a tank, but shaped like a mouse, and there's clown music playing in the background. Turned the game off, never played it again. Fuck Persona 1.
Persona 2 is cool. Both parts. Shame we only got the IS remake, but whatever.
Anyway, from the list, I definitely plan to get Growlanser. That one is an easy choice.
Yes indeed it was an impressive graphical showcase. I especially like made-for-PSP, Rave Racer-inspired Silvercreek Dam, and particularly this stretch:
[ninja edit, I hope you were asking about Crisis Core, lol]
I played it back in 2009 (saw my old save file) and only put 5 hours in before stopping. I am 9 hours in but still actively playing it. I feel like the story is picking up now (and has been since about 5 hours). I don't know about your 3 hour sample. Did you get out of Shinra's headquarters? It's pretty sterile in the HQ so there's variation when you get out.
Some comments/thoughts:
* It's very linear so far, the missions offer the side quests but they're basically a small level with random enemy encounters and a visible 'boss' to beat to complete the mission. Based on when you play the missions, the end boss could be someone you have fought in the story mode already. If not, you will face them in story mode. In that sense it's kind of spoilery (is that a word) on the enemies. It spoils it a bit but you can also test out strategies so when you face the enemy in the story mode they may be much easier.
* Leving up is kind of weird as it's baked into the DMW. The DMW sometimes shows video clips of Zack and whoever the DMW is prior to the limit break. If you play a ton of missions it can show minor story spoilers before you get to that part in the main story which is amusing/disappointing/etc. You can skip them though, which I have been doing for ones I suspect may have a spoiler.
* The combat is pretty easy. I think I have only died 3-4 times (once being last night on
Angeal in beast form. I hope I finally get the Buster sword after I beat him
). I have only been using magic materia and building up physical attacks via normal leveling up and equipping accessories. I don't think I've used any physical attack materia. As far as combat tactics it's pretty repetitive, at least the way I am playing it: get behind enemy, attack for critical hits, dodge the counter attack, lather, rinse, repeat, or change to magic.
* Shops and buying items is nice and easy, all can be accessed in the menu so you don't have to physically go to a store. Same goes for missions but you have to be at a save point of which there are plenty.
* I wish there were more swords or armor to collect. Only two swords and no real armor.
* FF7 was one of my favorite games and I think one of the few RPG's I have actually beaten (I lose interest quickly) so I am enjoying a return to the FF7 story/environment.
Overall I am enjoying it. How long to beat has the main story at about 20 hours which seems about right so far.
Side note if anyone has a UMD only, I have a non-Greatest Hits case, insert, and manual for it in good shape I can send you (US 48 states only). PM me if interested.

I only played its enhanced remake, Lord of Apocalypse on the Vita, and I thought it was OK but not great. Monster Hunter Light with AI companions (maybe not there in Arcana), summonings and QTE finishes to the boss battles.
Lord of Arcana was never really well liked from what I understand. If you've played the other games in the genre and like the quest style gameplay then it might be worth a shot.

I played Lord of Arcana with two friends back in the day. It was just a me-too game that tried to cash-in on the Monster Hunter craze. God Eater tried too, but [GE] at least survived and gained a cult following.
People on r/psp downloaded the video and are re hosting them. I won't post them here out of respect for Borman. Give him a follow on YouTube while you're at it.
This prototype is still post-Climax LA, after they moved it overseas. But it's from fairly early on in the project. I have some notes that Im putting together straight from the developers mouth regarding the development (and possibly that PS3 prototype), but that is waiting until more materials arrive.

The Missions get better the farther you get into them, IMO. You can score some absolutely broken accessories & materia from some of the later ones, and the very last one features a unique enemy.

Uncovered my PSP collection recently. Man, what a system. Sold some of it as I'm moving house and need the money, but it hurts to part with it. Still keeping my rhythm action collection though. Might take some pics later.
Anybody remember PQ: Practical Intelligence Quotient? Really fun puzzler I rarely see talked about.
Currently playing Tactics Ogre LUCT. Managing the party is addictive as hell, specially when you get the grasp of the skills setting.
The battles against humans are somewhat quick, but when I have to fight against dragon units... it takes forever to bring them down. I need to equip the skill that grants extra damage to dragons.
Has anybody played this game? Are archers really over-powered?
Yeah the reviews I saw, via Metacritic, are not very good. Although most say Mutant League is good, which would be the main draw for me. I would play the Road Rashes as well. [edit, scratch that, it looks like they changed the soundtrack to the Road Rashes so it would only be for Mutant League and Jungle Strike. I think I'll pass for now.]
