Had it to pick this up at the postal office today ( I prefer they just leave it at my door), but anyway!

It was pretty expensive compared to other models in this line but it was worth it. It's just so cool!

I really do like the design of Barbatos.

I keep seeing all these small robot models for LBX or something. Isn't that that game coming out next week? That one with the red and black color scheme with a the swords actually looks really cool.

YESSSSSS IT CAME IN O(^∇^)O

Master Grade Hyaku Shiki 2.0 and a Bastard Grade Akatsuki Gundam.

The Akatsuki Gundam is from a Taiwanese third party Dragon Momoko, couldn't wait anymore since Bandai refuses to reprint or remake their 1/100 Akatsuki Gundam.

Throwing both of these on the top of the backlog and building the minute I'm able to spray on Future Gloss Coat on them.

On the left is Hyaku Shiki 2.0 gold finish, on the right is Akatsuki Gundam gold finish.

Yeah, they're from the games. The black one is from the third game in the series and show. And yeah, the first game is coming here in America next Friday and the EU region on September 19th, I believe.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Akatsuki once you build it. I've been looking for a third party MG one for a while. The only decent repro of the conversation kit that was going around was from a company that ended up going out of business, so I've been waiting for someone else to do one. I'd prefer it to be a conversion kit, as the Bandai frames tend to be better and more durable long term, but I'll take what I can get. Might have to grab that.

Nice, I would love to see how it would look after some gloss finish.

Also made some progress with my 00 Raiser. I finished the body and some of it's weapons I still have things to build like it's jetpack and swords.

Nu

Obari as FUCK

So here's my haul for today, all posed up and everything. I still have a couple of Aura Battlers, and a Gundam Virsago still in the box, awaiting stands.

These all look FANTASTIC. My favorites are the ZZ and the Dragonar Unit 2.

The Nu is great looking, especially with the effects parts for the funnels, but...IT IS SO FRAGILE. The clips on the funnels , bazooka, and shield all BARELY hold and if you breath on it it falls to pieces. This desperately needs a v2. Even the goddamned MSiA held together better.

I'll definitely be making better progress on both these gold pieces and update more frequently now that my summer has settled down a bit. It comes with waterslides, extra effect parts, and extra hands. On top of that it has both the Oowashi and Shiranui packs.

I guess those extra parts makes up for some of the issues with the kit.

oops, sorry! but the pictures aren't that big anyways. Fixed

What is that figure next to the Banshee? Is that a Patlabor model?

its a toy, not a kit! It's the CM Corp AVS-98 MarkII Standard from Patlabor. Racheting joints, fabric joint covers! Was like 80 bucks when it was first released, I got it for 9 bucks in that amazon mecha bonanza sale a few months back.

Sorry to break the news but quoting doesn't make the file size smaller. :(

Since it was holiday week this week I took a short trip up to Tokyo.

Wanted to see this while it was in town...

Sadly except for one part of the show no photos were allowed. Was interesting to see the original art for the show.

Also got to see the Barbados we saw during the press conference...

The only thing I picked up from the shop for this was the HG Revive RX-78 Art of Gundam version (comes with special base).

Also went over to Gundam Front at DiverCity. I haven't seen the 1/1 RX-78 since it was in Shizuoka a few years ago...

Picked up the HG Silver Phenex, HG Rx-78 GFT (since it's based on the G30th edition and has a special base like the Art of Gundam kit figured they would be good to have next to eachother on a shelf), Beargguy and Acguy plushes and some other odds and ends.

Also finally got to stop by this place! Hopefully I'll be spending a bit more time here soon...

Those are all pretty good. I'd throw stand up to the victory and Xs themes as well.

Gundam typically has good theme music though. the only shows that I don't like are turn as second theme and the seeds.

Watched The Origin pt 1. The performances were way too hammy, and it was distracting. Thoughts:

1. Ramba Ral looked like Verrick form Avatar.
2. Sayla was obnoxious.
3. Zabis were pretty incompetent, but less so than we are used to.
4. Deikun is a well-meaning, but ultimately selfish man who would lead his people to death. don't buy into the hype! Yes, his vision was stolen by power-hungry murderers, but was his impatience to achieve his vision any better?
5. Char was pretty stoic as a kid. You see a kid like that and go 'damn, this kid is a sociopath' and sure enough, we get Char. Selfish and ambitious, like his father.
6. Computer animation sucks.
7. Kycilia was pretty sexy as a young woman. Who knew? Anyway, you fuck with Char you better kill him.

Turn A Gundam - Century Color

I like my cheese.

Blasphemy!
I like it now, just didn't like it instantly when I first heard it cause it's really hard to follow up Turn A Turn.

Part 2 better have more pompous, sexy ass Kycilia strutting around, one of my favorite parts of The Origin was seeing how Kycilia acted. Aren't her and Ghiren the best Zabi's anyway?

She was my favorite part of The Origin, for sure. Swag to the max. However, although it might sound cruel to kill Casval, it was actually the right choice, He came back with a vengeance, Of course, who knows what her plans are. She's kinda ambiguous.

Clearly, her and Ghiren are the cream of the crop when it comes to doing Zabi shit. Dozle was too simple and Garma was too weak. Although, gotta give props to Garma for being brave when it mattered. Can't trust a Zabi or a Deikun. FACT.

If she had killed Casval
she'd still have a head... Plus there's that other Zabi guy who's name I can't remember who went up in that car bomb
. Yeah it seems like her and Ghiren are the smartest ones and I think she's at least less evil than Ghiren.

Oh, if she only knew what the future held for her. I think it'd blow her mind.

She's still pretty fucking evil though. Probably the second worst of her family, at least in 0079. Dozle and Garma are the only Zabis that didn't do anything wrong from what I can tell.

Heh.

So. Bandai are revealing a model of the RX-78 Origin at the Chara Hobby show, but they aren't saying which grade. Interesting. I have to imagine if it was just a HG, they wouldn't be so cagey. They would just show it at the show without fanfare. We also just got the Revive edition hard to believe they'd go for another RX-78 in that line so soon.

That leaves RG, MG, and PG. As awesome as a PG would be, it seems really unlikely. I'm gonna bet a Ver. Ka quality MG as the big December release. Whatever it is, I'm gonna be so excited. I absolutely adore The Origin version of that suit. I sure hope it comes with all the option parts of the Metal Build. The way the RX-79 changes so much over the course of the manga is a big part of why it's so cool.

I don't know we just got the 3.0 2 years ago and we've seen a Ver Ka. style RX-78-2 both in build and quality.

It would be cool to get an RX-78-02 alternate depiction though but I'm burnt out on that.

I'm not sure what to think of which Ver Ka. is next since they've hit all the big ones so far. I'd love for a Katoki version of more Kunio designed suits. But I'm fairly confident that the next 2.0 is the ZZ Gundam since that is in dire need of a refresh.

Besides that point, the Kshatriya is quite a popular suit and I'm waiting for a 1/100 scale model to come from Bandai.

Would an MG or an RE1/100 be more likely for the Kshatriya? I mean it's a REALLY popular mobile suit and I really hope and think they'll pull out an MG for it.

The same can be said for Ξ Gundam since it's quite a big suit and very popular yet it still has no MG model much less a 1/144 model at all. Ξ Gundam is probably one of the few popular UC suits that have yet to get any Gunpla.

I'm also waiting out for that MG G Self...

The Origin is easily the best RX-78 ever. It's one of two RX-78s I'd actually still buy. The other design I'd want would be something super chunky and low detail like the animation model, but I doubt we'll get there. The Ver. 2 is close, but not quite.

I don't think the Origin will be a ver. Ka literally, just in quality. The old Ver. Ka is still quite old, so quality wise it's not quite up to the Hi-Nu, Sazabi, etc. Realize the origin with all the possibility tweaks and the hands of those kits and all the option parts The Origin version should have and I'll be right there, Day 0. It's the definitive RX-78 to me and deserves a high budget kit.

As for Kshatriya, I believe the problem with that kit remains its binders. They're far too big to be supported without using fully metal wing joints, something far outside of the MG or RE/100 budget. It's possible we get one someday, but I kind of think its time has passed.

A XI kit is all but guaranteed here in the next couple years, though. I think they'll do it as a Ver. Ka, but a RE/100 kit would also be a decent fit.

I've recently revisited several Gundam series with my wife, and we've basically plowed through all of UC in chronological order (Victory is up next, but I think that's the last). Just going to throw out some ranking with some comments in tow.

Best to not-best to worst:
  • 0080: War in the Pocket - Best mobile suits, best human story, best opening scene, I'll cut you if you disagree(!).
  • Unicorn - Loved it before, but it jumped way up in rank after watching everything leading up to it super recently, probably the most dense cast of excellent characters out of any Gundam series.
  • 08th MS Team - I prefer ground over space battles and this is almost all ground battles, great main cast, wish the epilogue didn't exist.
  • Zeta - Best OP and music in general, love the Mk. II but not so hot on the rest of the mobile suits, best version of Char, very much don't recommend the movie version.
  • MS Gundam (0079) - I'm not an anime history buff, but it felt like this series broke new ground on having a moral gray area instead of just good vs. evil, black/white characters.
  • Char's Counterattack - A lot of sucky/dumb characters play supporting roles to the Char vs. Amuro rivalry, kind of surprised newtype abilities weren't played up more until the end.
  • Igloo - An interesting peek at other things going on during the one-year war, not sure why the Zudah is so popular.
  • ZZ - Almost gave up because the first ~15 episodes are terrible, Mashymre is a highlight throughout the first several episodes because he's so completely ridiculous, definitely recommended for UC fans especially if you like Marida Cruz from Unicorn.
  • 0083: Stardust Memories - Insufferable protagonist, some of my least favorite Gundam designs, good ending.
  • F91 - If you don't read the F90 and Crossbone mangas, you'll probably just be scratching your head most of the time, really bad mobile suit designs, poor man's Darth Vader is the worst.

I can't wait to see your opinion on Victory Gundam...if you only watched the movie version of Zeta you really didn't watch the whole series since it cut a lot of stuff out, and changed the ending. CCA didn't do Char or Amuro any favors and the side characters are dumb as hell, soundtrack is great though. ZZ isn't even that bad and I enjoyed it more on my second watch of it actually Judau isn't my favorite protag, but he's a lot of fun since he's the least angsty of them with plenty of swag. I love Unicorn, but the two main protags are fucking annoying and Banagher is vanilla as fuck. There's nothing about him that really stands out outside of his Kamille Bidan haircut. The less said about Riddhe the better
yo fuck Riddhe
. I guess you didn't like the animal motiffs for some of the Zeta designs or was it the Macross levels of transforming suits?

I'm only just starting on Victory as well after going through UC for the first time, and, while I agree with most of this, I would personally put F91 higher and Unicorn lower. Despite the pacing of F91, I thought it was relatively straightforward even with the somewhat open ending, and the suit designs were pretty neat. Especially liked F91 with the radiator fins. Unicorn started great and had great production values, but the whole mystery around Laplace's Box as well as the bullshit levels of Newtype/psychoframe magic just got way too ridiculous for me.

Best part of Unicorn is episode 4, there's just so much mecha porn in that episode, then after that it became about the story...ugh...outside or Merida I don't like the cast that much. Ep 7 had some good action sequences until you get to the space montage with an Evangelion monologue.

Saw Hi Nu MG Ver Ka for 60 shipped. Had to pull the trigger.

However, going to be painting that purple light-blue.

I can't rank gundam series, but I feel like I enjoyed SEED the most.
