The Gundam |OT2| Another 5 years of Gunpla, Origins, and GUNDAMUUUU!

Not going to lie I loved voltron and power rangers. Might stick with the sub since I gotten used to the voices

it's good enough to make sense if you ever want to watch the original later on. there's a lot of hate of Harmony Gold currently bc of their cock blocking ways of the franchise but this pre-dates all the hate and was made at a time where the intent was to being over anime to the West. so it was a good thing.

edit:
i picked this up recently and posted it in actionGAF (the valk in the intro of the show)
i definitely need to watch the series again!

If he has access to Macross, he shouldn't be watching Robotech.

Seconded.
you guys know how huge of a macross fan i am as you guys are to Gundam =)
my apartment is macross:

much as i am a diehard Macross fan and hate Tommy Yune and Harmony Gold for what they've done, my first memory is watching the Macross Saga on western TV as Robotech. so i would recommend Flow watching that. in the 80's, very few people had access to the original Macross broadcast or fansubs due to anime being scarce in the West. Carl Macek tried to broadcast the original Macross as is in the 80 but TV broadcast needed him to get to 75 so he combined 3 shows to get there. and obviously subtitled wouldn't work on syndicated western TV as foriegn shows were not widely accepted back then. the broadcast rights then weren't a big deal as no one knew how big Macross would become. so i still have fond memories of old robotech. it was only when growing up i later got access to subs to watch Macross in it's original form. now i know on this forum not everyone was born and raised in the USA so childhood memories of Macross may be totally differ as well as opinions. but this is just my 2 cents.

Robotech itself isn't awful by any means, and I kinda enjoy some of the things associated with it, like the novelization explaining exactly how awesome Max disgusing his VF as a Zentraedi soldier was. It's Harmony Gold that's the problem for me. I just don't really care to support them.

He should watch it subbed just to escape that wretched english Minmay singing.

My Time to be a Star is awful, but I kinda like We Will Win.
At least it isn't My Boyfriend is a Pilot for the umpteenth time.

Doesn't make it not bad. I saw Robotech (on SciFi) first too, doesn't mean I don't think it sucks compared to Macross, Mospeada and Southern Cross. It's up to TheFlow, but you know Macross is better than Robotech. lol

Western version for life! I feel yah David
lol not sure for life but just my childhood memories. it took me a while to adjust to the original much like going from Akira's Steamline dub to the original with subs since i watched it so many times.

oh nice you watched the original broadcast, not the remastered dub (i really hate the remastered additional sound effects)
i hear you... Macross World used to go nuts if i mentioned watch Robotech lol (everyone left and it's just noobs over there) ah i donno, i looked on amazon prime and it's the Robotech remastered dub that i don't like.... i will say the Robotech BGM music they created was top notch aside from a few singing selections. i don't think it's better but it's different. the VA like Tony Oliver (Rick Hunter) was good, if they could've kept it faithful and not westernize all the names plus mash in 2 other show's to tweak the plot, i think the dub would've been good.

Though Macross Movie DYRL music was amazing. i don't think Robotech can touch that. but i don't disagree with you, it's childhood memories kicking in =)

here's a clip of the same scene for the dub vs. original:
Robotech Max vs Miriya (better non-remastered sound
SDF Macross - Max vs Milia

Red Moon is amazing.

Lonely Soldier Boy is alright, but it's been a really long while since I've gotten that far in Robotech. Usually I'll just watch Mospeada. :p

Red Moon is amazing.

I love pretty much the entire Macross OST. My Boyfriend is a Pilot just gets used way too often in the series imo.

Little White Dragon is maybe the exception, but only because it reminds me of the Famicom rendition. Not a bad game (not a particularly good one either), but boy, it'll make you hate the song.

Got my METEOR + Zaku Live Concert ver. today. I knew it would be big but I was not prepared for the size of the METEOR box haha.

Sadly I will not build it before next year as I'll be preparing to move 6 months from now and I'd rather not risk damaging it in the move.

Now to buy a second one, lol.

Edit : shipping hurt so much on this one. 7.8k for the kits and 5k for the shipping, ontop of which came 40€ in VAT and customs charges. It would've been cheaper to just grab the 11k version sold by Nippon-Yasan at this point lol

Regarding the Macross stuff, I'm still waiting on Arcadia/Yamato to release the counterpart of my YF-19 1/60.

50% on my Patlabor 03 and Wild Arms 2 play through.

Good relaxed Sunday.

Also watched more Turn A, were in space now, Dianna continues to slay queen on everyone, made it to the moon, Turn X's head showed up. Let's keep it going! Less than 10 to go!

And I was inspired to buy the Live Concert Zaku myself. Clearly the greatest iteration of the Zaku ever conceived.

As far as my input on Robotech vs Macross...just pretend Shadow Chronicles doesn't exist. I do prefer Macross though I'm still sad that I never completed getting the ADV release from about 10 years ago or so.

RG Unicorn will apparently have two boxarts. A first press limited release with Unicorn Mode, then later batches will have Destroy Mode.

So, guess I'm not getting it right at release since I prefer Destroy, but good for those that wanted a choice.

Test CG box arts:

the limited and hi res wing went up earlier today on hlj (both order stop already)

wow almost done w/ turn A gundam =)

Yup, watched even more last night! Turn X in full finally revealed itself, the twist about the Turn A and X triggered me hard at the gym lol. I watch at least two episodes while doing cardio bike lol. Almost triggered me as hard as the moonrace finding out the truth about the dark history haha.

Also love that they just threw in clips of the older gundam series for the reveal of the dark history. OG Gundam sure, makes sense, then it started showing X and a TON of Wing clips haha.

If you ever wanna play an awesome Macross Game, I recommend importing a copy of Macross 30 for PS3. Hope they make a Macross Game for PS4 at some point.

Went ahead and ordered the Unicorn because Unicorn mode is sexy. I can never pass up a transformable Unicorn kit it seems. Bandai has my number.

Also grabbed the MG ZZ Ver Ka when I saw the price. Came in way lower than I expected. Honestly thought it would be more of a 7k-8k kit. At the current price it feels like kind of a steal. September should be a fun delivery.

I'd like to have a set of the TB Final Battle, but that's way too expensive for my blood.

ZZ is a pretty good deal at that price, though.

Pre-ordered the Blue Destiny, GM, and ZZ. Not sure about getting a MG at my current skill and experience level...hopefully I won't be throwing my money away on this.

I also recommend Macross 30. I've never been big on the import scene for Japanese mecha games, but this one hits all the notes for me. The transforming Valkyries provide more flexibility in gameplay than what I've seen from Gundam games, the soundtrack's neat, you've got worlds to explore with big, Musou-ish combat, and most of the game's easy to follow because it gives you objective markers for almost everything (except for one mission halfway through where you're lost without Japanese).

Can a baka gaijin and play this without understanding the story? Is this Frontier game?

Macross 30 is great. It is a bit open-worldy and the things that go along with that, but it is also an HD Macross Artdink game, which even when repetitive can be fun.

There are fairly detailed translation guides out there, I think on Macross World forums.

I really should try Macross 30 sometime.

The best Macross game I've played was Scrambled Valkyrie on the Super Famicom. That was a pretty good shmup.

Tech info on the AN-01 Tristan.

So if I'm reading it right, the Tristan is literally the salvaged NT-1 Alex mashed up with junk parts from other mobile suits.

And that little F91 tie-in (Buch Concern's connection to SNRI)

Really, the only part on the RG unicorn that seems like it could be disaster would be the front hip transformation covers. If they figure out how to durably do that, the rest should be fine.

Just finished putting together the MG Banshee, and the feet keeps falling off due to the attachment using a swivel joint instead of a ball joint and polycap. Transformation is also a pain in the ass. I still have a Unicorn from the same production line and I fear that it has the same issues.

Anyone tried the Ver. Ka for Unicorn and Banshee Norn? Are they better than the standard MG line?

A question I had about Victory Gundam
How did Uso's dad died? The show implies he abandoned the Jean d'arc before it got destroyed... but they still say he died.
Plus Shakti senses he did.

The MG Unicorn has quite a few issues that seem to stem from being a decently old kit and them not really sure how to fully do the transformation at the time. The Ver. Ka is actually a significantly worse kit as the OVA version was remolded off of that to fix some issues with knee posability and waist transformation. Going from the PG, Bandai has learned a lot since then at how to make that transformation work.
