The Disney Blu-ray Thread: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Vault

That's how it starts. And then a few years later you have them all and your wallet is empty.
Ain't that the truth. I'm sitting here regretting not getting digital copies for movies that have now been vaulted and the only thing keeping me from getting ones currently out is the price is so damn high for a movie I already own.

I can confirm this to be true. I started out with the classics I liked most as a kid, and now.......oh boy. I still haven't gotten *all* of the releases listed on Stump's Excel sheet, but I've gotten way too close to feel good about it.

I finally decided to give the Disney Movie Club a try. I got the following 7 blu-rays (10 films total) for my signup for a total of $21.90:

E21DE4D6-1DDB-4B1B-AF67-1F8E5E043E75.jpg

Return to Oz (Exclusive)
The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (Exclusive)
Swiss Family Robinson (Exclusive)
Into The Woods
Father of the Bride 1&2
Sister Act 1&2
Cinderella 2&3

One of these counted towards my 4 movie commitment, so then I got the Snow White Signature Edition Blu-ray, Aladdin 2&3, and The Good Dinosaur 3D to complete my commitment. Seems to have worked out very nicely. That works out to be about $8.05 each for 14 movies.

Interesting picks, but it makes sense to do some of the exclusives for sure. I'm guessing you already have a bunch of the more mainstream Disney stuff?

In the future, you might want to try the enrollment code 28563. That will lower your number of commitment titles by one (you'll only need 2 after your initial order), so you can fulfill your obligation a little faster and end up with a better per-film price.

Swiss Family Robinson is an exclusive?

...

I mean, really?

EDIT: I guess a lot of these older titles I grew up with are. That's surprising to me.

Yes, I own pretty much every animated Disney film on Blu already, plus all the Pixar films. This was mainly grabbing the club exclusives that I wanted, plus a few titles that I haven't seen yet and a few old favorites that I haven't felt inclined to buy at a higher price.

I also managed to get enough Reward Points to get Chicken Little 3D. Not a huge fan of the movie honestly, but its the last Disney film in 3D I needed to complete my collection.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think it's only available through Disney Movie Club and won't be at retailers.
Aren't all club exclusives made available to retailers down the line?

Normally yeah, but we don't have any info in this case. There was conflicting information when it was announced about the timing--it seemed at the time that the sequel pack would release immediately and then in January be available at retailers, but then the sequel pack didn't release until January in the DMC and we have no idea when/if it'll go to retailers.

My copies of Snow White (Signature Collection) and Aladdin 2-Pack blu-ray arrived today from Disney Club. Interestingly enough, Aladdin has 2 DMR codes that are worth 150 points each-- 300 points total.

...for good? God damn. I thought it was a brief period of exclusivity only. I don't suppose there's a DMC member who could get it that I could then buy from? :)

I really love my blu ray collection and layely the disney movie anywhere app. I'm just really bummed out that many of my original blu rays did not have digital copies with it. I really don't want to spend an extra $15 or so for digital versions when I've already spent $20 for the blu ray.

Anyone else feel a bit jipped about earlier blu ray releases?

Yes.

Added a few more to buff out the collection/build up my sons legacy :)

32 down, 21 to go.

Count yourself lucky. Only the very early releases here in the UK had any sort of digital (iTunes or Windows Media) or DVD with the Blu Ray. We just get the movie disc on its now. The only way to have digital copies here is to buy them individually, and only have them available, from the digital storefront of your choice, or pay up £9.99 a month for access to the Disney Unlimited app (although that gives you access to everything, including books and music).

Disney Movie Club deal this month looks like new editions to Mulan and Pocahontas, Blurays with digital copies. I already own the blurays without the digital copies, but I think I can sell them on ebay and get back almost enough to cover the repurchase. The things I do...

Note that the new covers suggest they don't come with the sequels. Neither of the sequels are any good, I'm just saying if that's a factor in your decision making then you probably won't want to swap them that way.

Yeah, I don't care for the sequels either. I'd much rather have the digital copy of the originals.

Finally did the Disney movie club deal... got Aladdin, Frozen, Brother Bear, and The Incredibles with no slipcovers and Inside Out, Jungle Book, Emperor's New Groove/Kronk's New Groove with slipcovers, so I guess I did ok.

If you care a lot about slipcovers, Disney does have a phone line you can call to ask for replacements. They cost a few bucks and they don't have every film in stock, but you might find it worthwhile:

(I haven't done it myself, so I'm just relying on what the guy says in the link I just sent you)

The last few posts on that forum say it's been shut down and it seems like they're just exchanging between themselves. Do you know if it's been started up again?

I'm not sure. I seem to remember that they were no longer stocking the o-sleeves, but I thought they had again. If the most recent conversation in the thread says they're not doing it, then they probably aren't :(

Poster came~ Yeah the placement is bad because I misjudged size and dont have any more sticky strips to take it off and move it over. 27x40 didn't see so large when just looking at the numbers...

I'm debating this. I don't have Pocahontas though, and the Mulan blu ray is worth about $13 on ebay.

I really want The Princess and the Frog on digital and the old live actions they released for the movie club, particularly Pollyanna.

I love The Princess in the Frog, such a good movie, I'm so glad I got the digital without planning on it. Meaning, I wasn't buying the digital copies on purpose at that time, I just got it because.

I am torn between the new Mulan and Pocahontas releases because like some have said I like digi copies.
Though I could always get the two packs and then pay the $2 on VUDU and have the digi (I think they are available)

You can rent it for a few bucks, but owning them is still $15-$20 depending on the quality. At that price point, it's just better to purchase the combo pack and sell the discs as used after entering the code.

Picked up Snow White at Target for $19, they had most of their Disney movies on sale and apparently so does Best Buy. Also picked up Tarzan, Hercules, Mulan, and Pocahontas from Disney Movie Club, still waiting for those to arrive. I've already sold my old Snow White, but I'll be listing my Pocahontas and Mulan on ebay to hopefully recoup some of that.
Sometimes I wonder if I have a problem lol

Got my Disney Club movies today, all of them had slipcovers. Was also able to sell Mulan for $19.99 on eBay.
The new covers on Pocahontas and Mulan look great, love how simple they are.
