I know a lot of people have issues with RSD but I have established long relationships with a few record stores over the past two decades that has really helped when I am looking for stuff.

A few years back when the Phish had Junta up for grabs and I was at Coachella my local store just held back a copy of it for me till I got back. Best rule of thumb for music or any hobby really is establishing a relationship with your local shops. Once that is done then establish a relationship with a few stores outside of your stomping grounds and life will be a lot easier when it comes to tracking stuff down.

2017 is year of the new turntable. This is the longest I have gone without changing my setup and I is time to shake things up. I might even re-introduce speakers to my setup. Since my divorce I went with headphones as I lost my dedicated listening room.

I just got an email from Vinyl Me Please. It looks like they are making more copies of Demon Days. If you signed up on their waiting list it looks like they are sending more emails soon to be able to sign up for it.

Co-worker gave me some records because her dad apparently didn't want them anymore. I've heard and really enjoyed these before (it's all music sampled in Wu-Tang songs) but wouldn't normally spend money on compilations, so a nice surprise.

Back from RSD. Last year the only release I bought was the Kung Fury soundtrack, which was a pretty great find. Nothing that awesome this year - at least in Helsinki...

Bought the Blade Runner picture disc despite not really liking the amount of surface noise PDs have. But it's goddamn Blade Runner and looked so great that I couldn't resist. Also picked Frank Zappa's Rollo 10" for myself and The Smiths' The Boy With The Thorn In His Side 7" for my big The Smiths fan girlfriend.

Currently in line at one of my local places. Pretty decent turnout, and I'm near the back of the line. They're doing one reservation per person in line so I'll be able to get something, just hope it's something that's high on my list.

^ Hearing that makes me happy I live in a small country with a pretty small vinyl collector community. I visited two record stores and in the other one I was the only one browsing through the RSD section. No lines and there was plenty of space in both. The stores didn't have anything special lined up, though - nothing on sale or anything.

Does anyone have any solid plastic record sleeves? I've never seen any, only the flimsy plastic kind. I'm wondering what the market would be like for them if I got them mass produced.

I have one. It came with a record I ordered and seemed to be of very good quality. It's the only sleeve I didn't replace. It's rigid around all the sides of the sleeve and reinforced at the corners. A real solid sleeve.

I'll post a pic of it when I get home.

You mean Kallax? Yeah, I use the 2x3 one for parts of my collection and my mixer/players, works fine. Wouldn't trust the bigger models to use with many records though unless you reinforce it with a cross brace in the back, feels flimsy when strained.

That is what I meant to type. Should that be big enough for the AT-LP60 and two speakers on the top shelf?

If you get a Kallax and intend on filling it I'd recommend wood gluing the joints and pegs. I've noticed that with a full shelf and over time the shelves move a bit with use. Gluing will just secure them and give you peace of mind.

Well, I caved and bought the Monk box set from a flipper for only twice the price. Good deal, considering its been flirting with hitting $200. We'll see how it looks when it arrives.

I hate to be the one to tell you this but you should either not get the LP60 or make sure you upgrade within a year or so, depending on how often you play records. The tracking force is super high and not adjustable, which really increases wear and tear on your records. I had the LP60 for a number of years and a few of my most played records now skip.

Hmm, if you orientate the shelf to stand like this:

Then you can fit in a lot on top of it. I have my two turntables and the mixer inbetween, but no monitors. If you only have one player and two regular-sized speakers, I'm pretty damn sure everything should fit on top.

I hate to be that guy but I am going to be that guy. Put as much as you can into your base player. If you aim low you are going to be pissed half a year from now. You don't have to break the bank and if you are on a fixed budget look at craigslist and other places to possibly buy something better than brand new.

This is the type of hobby that if you cheap out you will hate every second of it.


How did everyone do with RSD?

NOOOOOOOO! I am getting sick of RSD stuff going straight to scalpers.

I moved my record player last night in a fit of being bored.. 2 hours later it is all set up yet again and working. I am my own worst enemy when it comes to issues and I tend to create more issues thinking there is a problem then there actually being a problem. The worst part of boutique audio is that when you need parts you have to go straight to the manufacturer so I now get to wait a few days before a response for my order and then a month to actually get the parts I need.

Rule of thumb: Do not ever purchase or use gear you cannot work on yourself or know a good technician that supports your equipment in your area.

I was also looking at the Pioneer PL-990. I just don't want to invest a lot if I don't get into I could turn around and sell it everything as a package.

I was able to get Pineapple Express and Space Jam online. They were the only ones I wanted and was able to get them both for retail online too. I follow Modern Vinyl on Twitter and they tweeted a link to a Discogs seller who was selling around 4 or 5 copies of Space Jam. Lucked out for that one.

I got my copy of Thrice - Sea Change yesterday, which coincided nicely with watching them in London. They were unbelievably good. The set started with some huge hits like Artist and Silhouette...but then they played Deadbolt and the crowd went absolutely nuts!

Man... I'm jealous (on all counts)! Last time I saw them, they played Artist during the encore. It was wonderful
I haven't found Sea Change yet, but I will... Oh, I will.

You'll definitely like Sea Change. It's probably on YouTube if you haven't heard it. It's very slow and quiet but it's undoubtedly Thrice

Not that it's relevant for this thread specifically, but the Persona 5 LE has been announced (6x LP) for $175. Has any "regular" (or even movie/TV soundtrack) release gone for close to that much at retail?

absolutely. that Beatles Mono boxset retails for $300, but I've seen it go as low as $90 during crazy sales/stacked coupons. I think that Queen remastered set last year went for $400-500 at retail as well.

I'm looking to buy a turnable, hesitating between Fluance or Audio-Technica AT-LP120. There's a good price difference. The later has USB direct drive but I don't care about that, I just want to play some vinyls that's all. Other than that it's not clear what is the difference I should expect.

Any advice is welcomed.
