It's a fun group, always happy to have new additions!
If it's not too late I would love to be invited as well. Would love to still have a place to talk Star Wars. It's a fun group, always happy to have new additions!
You all seem to know what's going on. I don't. Could someone please explain why I can't find The Last Jedi thread anymore and why people are asking for invites?
Thanks
So I started rewatching the movies in prep of 8, man Ep. 2 is definitely the worst. Yes it has some good scenes but that dialog is awful most of the time. Ep. 3 even though it shares some of the faults of 1 and 2, is a big step up in my opinion. Even Christensen does a better job (not all his fault he worked with what he had)

I reported for spam, mod said he fixed it, but I guess not. He's bumping the spam links in the quoted text.Is it really your opinion if it is exactly the same as another poster's??
Why? How is it bad?- Young Anakin's acting was pretty bad
Lucas was bad at giving actors direction. It's been widely reported on by now. Why? How is it bad?
edit: wow, just noticed it is a 2 year old post. Well, if anybody feels like answering for themselves feel free.
I still think they did a fine job all around. I can't think of any instance of literally bad acting.Lucas was bad at giving actors direction. It's been widely reported on by now.
You're right, it's a space opera, the cheese acting is at least partially intended. Also, it's not really any different from the acting in the OT, which nobody seems to recognize.feel like "the acting is bad, the dialog is bad" etc. these complaints are really old and played out at this point. dialog in the original OT was pretty bad too ("You can write this stuff, George, but you can't say it"). i can look past all of it because of the roots of the genre. Anakin's exaggerated acting makes more sense in this context, it is broad and dramatic, staged more like an old film, and he does a good job portraying an awkward, restless teenager. PT is so old fashioned that people can't handle it. George laid it out on the line making the most accurate tribute he could make to 20s serials and sci fi.
well in some ways it is. Queen Amidala at the time got a lot of criticism for being wooden and stiff. now i have seen more of Portman's work, i have seen her in The Professional, i now try to see what she is going for. when i go back and watch it, it really is like some queen of a distant planet, painted up kabuki style (which strongly suggests a stately tone), this young girl fully in charge of an embattled civilization, with a strong, determined demeanor, keeping cool even under her city being beseiged. it is quite inspiring, it lends a gravity to the film that would be lacking without. it is a more Costume Drama take rather than the usual more comic style melodramatics, i think this threw people for a loop at the time but was the right idea. IMO Lucas may have found it necessary, to balance the baroquely detailed worlds, grounding it in this steely, determined, kind-hearted ruler. Also, it's not really any different from the acting in the OT, which nobody seems to recognize.
interesting how the PT takes her over time from this kind of pure, stately regalia to the emotive, suffering mother. she is far more sensual in AOTC, which indulges in the sexy sci fi tropes of the pulp era that Lucas never really got to do in the OT. by the final film, the corrupting influence of the decidedly unstable Anakin has transformed her, the first result of his legacy of chaos ending in their dual deaths at the conclusion of the films.
I love your post, but disagree with a bit. I especially disagree with her prioritizing being a wife. In my opinion their failure to prioritize their relationship contributed to both of their downfalls. Trying to live their customary public lives left room for him to be manipulated, and kept her from realizing the danger he was in (which extrapolated to their whole world due to his potential) before it was too late to save him. Maybe him being in a grey area after being kicked out would give Palpatine easier access, but maybe it would have made Palpatine's sinister motives in his fondness of Ani more obvious since the Jedi would probably take more notice after he was kicked out. And if they truly left everyone behind, there would have been a force to counter Palpatine much earlier in Ani himself.I think her diminishing responsibilities play a role in her downfall too. She starts off as Queen of an entire to planet, then drops to a representive, then becomes (and prioritises being) a wife. So by the time she's put all her eggs in the Anni basket - and he ends up going loco - she has essentially lost everything. I mean, by the end of the trilogy she was literally begging for the pair of them to run away from it all - the galactic conflict, rising new empire etc - to live alone and in hiding. Kind of tragic how she left herself whittle down like that. Meanwhile her effective counter-part, Palpatine, only goes from strength to strength and ends up running the whole show.
Almost all of the Marvel Star Wars comics are available on Kindle Unlimited.
Are any of them decent?
