Atsushi Inaba, a producer at Platinum Games, denied today that his studio is working on the next big Metal Gear, despite some whispers to the contrary.

"I am aware of the rumor that says [Devil May Cry and Bayonetta Hideki] Kamiya is working on Rising," he told Kotaku through a translator during an interview at E3 in Los Angeles. "It's not true." Asked if it was correct, then, that Platinum is not working on the game at all, he replied: "Yes."

The rumors of Platinum lending its action-game expertise on the action-based Metal Gears Solid: Rising started swirling through Internet message boards last month and was even mentioned in a Tweet from Metal Gear boss Hideo Kojima to Kamiya. Kojima's Tweet had said the rumor "would be nice if it were true." The combination of Platinum and Rising seemed possible and even promising given the emphasis in Rising's trailers on the type of stylish martial arts action that's been a hallmark in Kamiya's games. Rising, featured at last year's E3, wasn't at this year's show. The game is scheduled for a 2012 release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Earlier this week, we'd heard from a games industry source that the game was being made by Platinum. Inaba, who is in a good position to know, for better or worse, has shot that down.

This. Kamiya and P* was the only reason I actually cared about this game in the first place. So if those pieces are not in place, then bump this.

On the other hand, confirmation of no Kamiya/P* involvement on Rising would do a lot give that old "Shinobi game crafted on the Bayonetta engine" rumor much more steam...

The MGS5 thing might not be wrong, in fact it's very likely true. Although it doesn't take an inside source to make an educated guess.

The MGS4 thing was a bad bet though, Big Phil out right said Sony have MGS4 locked up contractually.

MGS5 on every system don't tell anything, MGS series going multiplat was a clear thing for everyone with MGS Rising announcements, the "source" specific details were wrong on everything so far.

What's the point of banning someone who posted a rumor as long as he sad sources and that it wasn't a troll ? Should mods ban CVG, kotaku and every other site that spreads false rumors sometimes ?

While I don't think TTP should be banned, there definitely needs to be an understanding in place so we don't have people posting random rumors they get from less-than-reputable sites or, worse, stuff they make up themselves.

If you're going to report it -- even as a rumor -- you have to be prepared to have people question your credibility if it turns out not to be false.

This guy started a rumor that didn't just spread throughout Neogaf, but the whole damn internet. So much so that Kojima and Kamiya heard about it. The source for this bs started here on Neogaf. How can he not be banned? This wasn't funny either.

They're lying for the sake of the surprise. Calling it now. Read between the lines the shit is obvious, Konami just has a statement like a week ago saying they have a big surprise at TGS for Rising. Come on now. TC shouldn't be banned but if you're gonna ban him at least wait until TGS before deciding.

Banning is mean and unreasonable, it was a valid rumor.
Now...finding the most terrible Raiden picture and forcing an avatar for a while, that could get things Rising :D

People like Shane Bettenhausen and other sites were saying that they had heard it from sources as well but just not talking about it.

On 8-4play they said the project has changed directors. They didn't say it like a joke so I don't know if it was a reference to TTP.

Why? Platinum makes good games. Maybe we should ban the other side of the rumor, they don't seem to matter much these days. :p
