It's been really wonderful having a 9 hour internet outage today. Thanks TekSavvy (and by extension Rogers)
Whereabouts? I'm in the market. Though I haven't been home yet today.

Also, holy shit. There's an Ottawa OT!

Anything on the Ottawa-St Laurent POI has been out since this morning and still out now. So I think that's most of the island (Lowertown, Sandy Hill, Old Ottawa South), and Vanier, Gloucester, Rockcliffe, New Edinburgh, etc. Not sure the exact boundaries of it.
The canal bridge is so goddamn beautiful at night.
The locks complete it.
The architects for the proposed Richcraft high rise condos on the DOW Honda site released some new renders a couple days ago: http://www.gc-architects.com/highrise/carlingpreston.html#sthash.gz8UqaxX.NJDohk4r.dpbs
They look pretty stunning to be honest, I really hope this project comes through, I'd buy a unit in one of the two tallest towers
Yup! It was the only way we were going to ever be taken seriously, lol
Looks like the theater at the World Exchange Plaza isn't going anywhere for teh time being

I think a downtown theater that plays mainstream movies is pretty important, let's hope Landmark manages it better than Empire did.
Just went to Habesha, an Ethiopian restaurant. It was really good! At least for the vegetarian platter we had, it compared very well to the Ethiopian food I've had in Toronto.Yup! It was the only way we were going to ever be taken seriously, lol
Talking about Ottawa, anyone have any restaurant ideas for a holiday meet-up?

Good point. Only really an option for a smaller meet-up.I also like Habesha (and Ethiopian food more generally). I'm not sure you could fit more than 6 or 7 people sitting down in there though!
I have a 10 car driveway. Needless to say, I hate the snow.
10 car driveway!? Wtf
You must be loaded
Looks like I'll be joining OttawaGAF soon, what do you guys suggest I should check out first?
A lot of my friends that live and used to live in Ottawa have recommended the shawarma places and there seems like a lot of cool stuff to do there compared to my hometown of Guelph. I'll be going to the University of Ottawa starting January and I'd definitely be down for a meetup with you guys before the semester ends.
Cheap Fresh Food: Ottawa Good Food Box. You pay $5, $10, $15, or $20 a month and get a large quantity of fresh fruit and vegetables and recipes to cook with. It's a not-for-profit that buys mostly off local farmers and uses economies of scale to pass savings onto you. Good way to try to eat healthy. There are pickup locations everywhere.
1. Castle Schwarma is the shit, Palace fans are sadly misinformedSorry Exodus
Cool most of the comp sci people I know go to Carleton but UOttawa's a great school.
Just be sure not to call it OttawaU, you staying on campus?
I prefer Castle Shawarma. I really like their different garlic sauces.
Living in Gatineau is cheaper (especially for beer) and transit is pretty good during peak hours, res is not particularly nice across the board but it's not terrible. Even if you don't drink someone will have to drag you to the terrifying underbelly known as Hull nightlife at least though, it's a uni right of passageI'll be living in Gatineau with a friend and his gf for a bit, but I definitely will be contacting residence because I feel like that living situation will be awkward.
Ah, yes, another convert to uOttawa, the superior of Ottawa's two english universities.
So are we doing a holiday meetup? Should I start planning something? =D
There are probably high schools that offer a better education than Carleton, so it's not like uOttawa's superiority is something to really brag about. And I say that as a graduate of Carleton.
You clearly have not been through Carleton's engineering program.
totally agree, engineering and comp sci is where carleton excels at compare to uottawa.

Nope. PoliSci! Of course, I graduated ten years ago, so it's entirely possible the improvements they keep bragging about aren't just advertising.

Did anyone on GAF attend the Chaudiere Islands meeting last night?
This is probably the last chance this city gets to develop a good, fun waterfront so they better not fuck this up.
No but I do have a knee jerk opinion on what they should do with the land.
And it isn't more brewpubs.
For real, they should move the museum of science and tech to there after imploding the St. Laurent one into non existence. Rename it museum of industry or something similar and have at it. I suppose parking might be an issue, but any major development there is gonna be handicapped in that aspect.
That or more taco stands.
Just had the burger from Zydeco on Preston. One of the best burgers in the city. Don't pay attention to all these wannabe "gourmet" burger joints popping up everywhere.
Anyone been to Monopolatte yet? Might make a good meetup location.
