If I buy a quest, can I play ANYTHING I want? Specifically random shit people make or stuff on steam?

Or is it platform locked like the playstation VR is?

With Quest you can play anything on the official Meta store, on app lab and on SideQuest (unofficial alternative store with plenty experiments from indies, some of which eventually get on the official store as well) and if you also have a gaming PC to connect it to, wirelessly or wired, then you can play anything PC VR too (with few exceptions, some random games not supporting this or that hardware isn't unheard of, but it's usually either much older or low quality games/tech demos if it they don't eventually get patched to support more devices), from Steam, itch, Viveport, or wherever :messenger_ok:

For AirLink Virtual Desktop is gamechanger due to HVEC codec streaming.

But why the fuck does it have such a janky ass applications on Mac/Windows?!

Somehow I've never visited Fanatical before. Is it legit, and perhaps a bit like HumbleBundle used to be?
It's like a mashup of Humble Bundle and Green Man Gaming, as opposed to something like CDKeys or G2A. It's definitely legit. I've order a bunch of stuff there and never had any issues. Earlier this year they even did a bundle with actual native Quest 2 games.

I have to admit, I've reached peak boredom with VR content. Nothing impresses me anymore and it all feels like low quality shovelware rehashing of the same crap over and over. Granted, I've been a VR user since the Oculus DK2 days, but wow is the magic dying for me awfully fast now.

If it wasn't for VR fitness apps, I'd probably barely touch the headset at all.

Some studio are still under the illusion that their mediocre game will sell just because "it's VR", but the game design quality needs to step up now.

There needs to be a special section just for applab games. I hate I have to use side quest to find app lab games .

Also I need some good recommendations. For my quest 2 or steam VR. I have all the major titles.

I want a good RPG similar to Karnage Chronicles which is probably my 2nd favorite game after Alyx

I'm starting to get some boredom as well, although I started with the Quest 2. I still really like VR, but I think it just doesn't have enough support for more realized games. I don't even want open worlds or games that mimic console games, but ones with a higher production value released more regularly.

As much as people praise indies to high heaven, they aren't enough to fully support a platform. There isn't even many AA games on standalone VR. I'm not trying to knock indie devs either. At least they are supporting VR. Ubisoft just cancelled Splinter Cell VR which could have been a great addition.

With games like Red Matter 2 looking how it does and more games being made for Quest 2 only, I hope there would be more realized games going forward. The entire gaming industry seems to be in limbo.

Hard disagree with folks saying there are no good games, there's always something cool out or on the horizon, but oh well.

I have a list of recommendations with blurb here. I haven't updated/trimmed in a long while however, maybe a year. Then upcoming games like Kayak VR are out, others have come out of early access, more worthy titles have released, others were abandoned. Most are still good if they interest you.

For RPG I recommend Vengeful Rites, not as combat/dungeon heavy as Karnage Chronicles and no extreme physics or whatever technologies but combat just works and is fun and reactive, melee or ranged, with weapons or spells, there are bosses and puzzles, exploration and dungeons, everything.

It really deserved more success but I guess it didn't achieve it and the company's next game is the also very nice looking Bocce Time!, which is of course a completely different direction and more going after the Walkabout Mini Golf crowd instead of serious gaming in hopes of larger reach.

Stones of Harlath and Journey of the Gods are also worth checking out, the latter is not as RPG-like but it's a really solid and fun experience with Zelda style trappings in a linear adventure with little exploration/no overworld aspect to it. I wish Turtle Rock Studios got funded for a big sequel.

Y’all try vermillion? It’s more of an app than a game but the process of painting a picture is novel every time. Mixing colors, performing large arcing brush strokes, blending on the canvas, it all feels great. It’s a creative experience so you gotta bring something to it in order to have fun but I was thoroughly impressed with the depth of the simulation, enough to keep me coming back and experimenting. Anybody have any other creative app reccomendations?

That is actually on my wishlist! I think it is so cool and forgot to snag it. I hope to soon. I really like to do art. I will feel like Bob Ross lol.

Gadgeteering (making contraptions) or Viruoso (making music) are some creative games. Tilt Brush and Gravity Sketch are both great 3D drawing programs. I think you can still get Open brush for free which is identical to Tilt Brush. Little Cities is also a simple relaxing city builder with less challenge and stress than Cities VR if you just want to build stuff.

I’m probably looking forward to espire 2 the most at this point. I ‘ve been having a blast playing sniper elite 5 with a buddy of mine who also has a quest 2.

Hopefully the separate co op campaign is meaty because stealth games in co op is awesome.

After that I have bonelab topping my list.

i feel similar but i just rarely use it so whenever i do it's somewhat enjoyable, for me the one game that really stuck was onward and the counter strike style mode (survival/one life mode) which i felt went really hand in hand with an actual virtual reality of being in gun combat and one mistake costing your life abd potentially having to wait 5 or 10 minutes. it also made kills so much more satisfying.

single player VR needs to be AAA like alex or it gets old fast.

i actually have a valve index i got at the end of 2020 that's still in the box. but it's more because i already have my CV1 rift set up and don't feel like setting up a whole new set of cameras and all that stuff whenever i do play VR.

Bought Oculus Quest 2 for some simracing and i returned it after 5 days.

VR is amazing for simracing but it seems that Quest 2 cannot be charged while playing(battery lasts about 3-4 hours) and resolution is still not what i want it to be,probably because Quest 2 was made as standalone headset and even with cable image is compressed.

I will definitely wait for some new VR release, something that can only be connected with cable(and charged) and with resolution about 6 million pixels(Quest 2 is 1850x1800 3.5mil pixels)

You can charge while playing, either from pc or using a powerbank (that's what I do) in wireless mode: just put it in your pocket and you're good to go.

What game were you playing? You can definitely charge while playing.
I was trying out Asseto Corsa competizione today and it did look too low resolution through steam vr however I found a guide that is supposed to help a lot with image quality. Remember quest 2 is that resolution per eye, you still get a very slight screen door effect but it is still pretty much 4K albeit really close to your face.

You can get what you want but it's going to be more expensive than a quest 2, the quest 2 is normally good because of it's price and the option for wireless pcvr.

Best bang for buck is probably the g2

Then you have the pimax if you really want resolution

Then if you want the best of the best you have the varjo, this is the cheaper model havn't seen many reviews focused on gaming on the more expensive model.
