NPD Sales Results for October 2015 [Up1: Xbox #1]

RE: Halo 5

I thought the multiplayer was genuinely great, but honestly; Black Ops 3 came out, I've gone back a couple of times, but the maps just plain feel better enough on BLOPS3 that I just kept playing that.
Then I played some Warzone again, and was thoroughly crushed by some absolutely crazy weapons, that I assume people have unlocked through REQ packs.
Then I jumped in the Halo 5 OT here, and apparently half of the main people posting on the OT actually bought $25 dollar premium REQ pack bundles. I think I completely missed the boat on Warzone, and the mix of no JIP + being crushed by teams when matchmaking Solo, and no Casual playlists for Arena may have killed the game for good for me.

Seems like perhaps it's doing well enough with a core group of people that are pouring money into microtransactions. I'm sure the overall player numbers (it always seems to be hovering between 6th and just outside the top 10 over the past week) is enough to have healthy playlists, but it doesn't seem to me like the game has picked up steam after launch.

At this point Nixxes probably already has a timeline that involves working on the PC version first, then PS4 (I assume all of this). Unless there's an exit clause in the contract AND they can accelerate development time, I don't see it happening.

Honestly, if they fix the input lag I'll buy the game again, so there's a small victory there.

Which BOPS3 maps are good? I'm the opposite, I play COD occasionally and keep coming back to halo. And my KD is higher in COD, its just not as much fun/challenge.

Honestly?

Every single one. I love all the maps, and the best part is that the game actually allows for playing with all weapon classes now. Other than perhaps snipers in a few of the maps, there's always a way to approach each map with each of the four weapon classes AND the different specialist abilities.

I really think BLOPS3 is a masterclass in game balance, given just how many different options there are.

I respect your opinion, but we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Hmm... That's a good question. Hard to gauge, too. See, with last year, with the XB1 november deals, it was just constant flux. The entire holiday deal didn't really have any sort of preorders available, it just went into effect, so people could just start buying then, and then they had their black friday event pricing across the board.

This time around, the Battlefront bundles had a really solid long term build up, with a growing wave of excitement around the established franchise, and frankly, some of the best advertisement I've ever seen (I've actually had customers specifically mention the one about the guy sitting at his desk in the office building as a nostalgia trip). As a result, you had the limited edition consoles sell out completely for us, and even the regular bundle still did really well, because it's the brand new game free with the console, and even then those value pack ins were a nice touch.

So it's had a really great performance here, it did awesome, a great boom of upswell leading in, though this weekend its not really the star of the show, since this weekend is all about price.

That's what makes it a harder comparison there, at least directly. The Battlefront bundle isn't directly competing in those specific angles, like the MS bundles arrangement was last year.

Both were very successful, in very different ways.

One more question buddy, and I'm done :) How did the 299 bundles do for you guys compared to the Black Friday bundles last year? Hearing lots of evidence this will be a stronger November than last, at least for PS4.

Now I seriously wonder if the game will chart.

Seriously it's weird that a Tomb Raider game is doing this kind of business.
werent like over 70% of the reboot sales on PS/PC? I think the audience is just on platforms where the game hasn't reached yet, I'm certainly waiting.

Hmm... Price parity makes a huge difference. Having the price match the mindshare for the biggest shopping weekend, and then giving us plenty of stock definitely worked in their favor, it feels like they're doing great this time. They didn't do bad last year, though when I reviewed the weekend after November was over with last year, I could definitely see where the XB1 had cleaned house with those cheaper bundles.

Momentum has shifted this year, in terms of that swing.

I said PS4 would be $299 this Black Friday. Didn't happen the way I expected, but mission accomplished.

PS remember how in October based on how Amazon looked and Abdiel's information it looked like PS4 would win? I predicted Xbox would still win for the same reasons.

The reason so many of us were wrong were the Xbox Halo 5 Bundle preorders from August and September, without those it might have been a lot closer.

This month we have 2 months worth of Battlefront and CoD bundle preorders coming in to the PS4's sales total.

Weird indeed but the result is not shocking when you consider sales usually lean on the European side of the market and does better on other platforms, it's business 101 to know that Xbox is the last platform TR should have been exclusive to if it was ever going to be exclusive to any platform.

That's exactly what it is. 3.5 million copies were sold on PC alone(Steamspy) and we know the PS4 version outsold the XB1 version 2:1. The game probably sold substantially more on PS3 than 360 as well due to the fact that it's a more popular franchise in Europe than NA.

The audience for this game is on PC/PS4. Even if Microsoft just wanted to "combat Uncharted 4", the decision to not release it on PC at the same time was completely asinine on Square Enix's part.

I remember last year the Xbox bundle was #1 on the Amazon hourly chart before black friday. This year PS4 has been ahead all month and it's been ahead of the XB1 black friday bundle all day long. That combined with all the bundles Sony sold when CoD and Battlefront came out points to a clear victory for PS4 this month.

If Xbox wins this month, I think we can hold a funeral for the Amazon monthly and hourly charts.

Oh, and does this months sales end on the 28th for NPD tracking? That would mean this Sunday and also Cyber Monday of $299 PS4s will count for December's NPD.

The Walmart closest to me is so weird...they have 4 entire cases of Xbox One games and accessories. They only have 1 for PS4.

Makes it completely impossible for me to read how the sales are doing post-BF. Do they have all that Xbox One stock because they sell so well, or because they don't sell at all? Are they under-ordering PS4, or is it selling really well and they can't keep stock?

Venders have said that MS pays for extra case/feature space at stores, but at the same time, each store can be modded differently to allow more space for one company or another..
