I bought, played, enjoyed, and recommended Red Steel 2. My part is done. I think it's a nice effort, but "too little, too late" applies nicely. This game should've hit about 2 years ago.
They will do it for the Move/Natal Versions of the game.Skiesofwonder said:You need ads on TBS, ESPN, ABC, etc.
Well, they could have called it "Red Steel 3" but I think it wouldn't have sold that good anywayrpmurphy said:RS2 came 2-3 years too late. Ubisoft dropped the ball on taking advantage of IP recognition. RS3 should have been the one released with MotionPlus.

I'm not going to blame advertising for Red Steel 2's failure, but your point in general is a good one.Skiesofwonder said:I think Red Steel 2 will have a good word of mouth and hopefully that will help.
Red Steel 2 had as much TV advertising as The Conduit and Madworld, which isn't much. And advertising on Comedy Central and Cartoon Network exclusively is only showing your product to a very small portion of the Wii userbase.
You need ads on TBS, ESPN, ABC, etc.
JaxJag said:So i'm wondering if maybe the reason Red Steel 2 has done so poorly, is because the crowd it's marketed towards has just quit buying these types of games that over use motion controls.
Indeed, the thing is: the Wii doesn't have a lot of traditional mainstream offerings and when one surfaces certain posters will go like "Oh shit son if ya don't buy this, than you are part of the problem yadayada." The 'Wii can't sell anything decent but Nintendo stuff' team did it's job in getting under the skin of certain posters.Mt Heart Attack said:They are. I enjoyed Red Steel 2, but I mean, it's no Mario Galaxy, I can totally see why people would skip it.

Goes to show that RPG fans own PS3 while FPS fans own 360 since the 360/PS3 sales of BF:BC2 and FFXIII are polar opposites...

It was a launch title. Not really a fair comparison.SlipperySlope said:How much did Red Steel 1 sell in the first month?

JJConrad said:The RS2 commercial is stupid. I don't understand how they think trying to be funny will attract anyone to a game like this. It doesn't sell the game itself. Its the type of commercial you run when your only goal is getting people to remember your name. That being said... The ads didn't start running until a few days before its release, so its effect isn't going to be noticeable in the first month sales.

Yes, but sports team lovers still love the sport and would go see other teams play given the chance.comedy bomb said:I know people get laughed at for "loving" a console manufacturer, but I really don't see it as being any different than "loving" a sports team.
Y2Kev said:I think Red Steel 2 was pretty well marketed. There is a fairly large TV campaign running with a pretty good ad.
I think it's a possibility. Sony's really hit the ball out of the park with God of War in general.Loudninja said:Can the GOW collection reach a million?
Because one title was made for a western audience while the other wasn't?Swittcher said:Isn't it weird that Yazkua 3 totally bombs in spectacular fashion, but no one is ever gonna mention it to Sega, ever again? "Why did Yakuza 3 do so poorly?"
But in 3 months, Sega's still going to be giving interviews about how badly mismatched Madworld was for the Wii audience.

As a user, I'd like to think this really increases the likelihood we'll see other up-ports, but I hate to get too hopeful.
