My dad’s dog bit off my nose — now I have hair growing on my face

Fun anecdote, while walking to the bus with my headphones in I once had a loose pitbull sprint up behind me and snarl as he zipped by. I was completely unaware of the danger until I heard that beastly snarl rapidly approaching from behind, I whipped my head around but he had already decided not to attack me apparently and kept going at full speed. Later at the bus stop I saw him again sprinting full speed down the center of a 4 lane arterial just as wild as anything. That incident could have easily gone the other way and I could have been mauled from behind because I was too distracted by my music, and I sometimes think about how lucky I was to escape unscathed. Never had that kind of experience with any other dog, even though I was fully not mauled it felt like if you’ve ever narrowly missed being hit by a truck, scary shit.

Fuck the Pitbull hate brigade in here. Bunch of correlation = causation nonsense being spit just to feed yalls confirmation bias.

Dealt with a whole plethora of Pitbulls in my life. Some of the nicest dogs ever. Even saved one stray once and brought him back to owner. Nothing but love and gratitude from him even know I was a stranger.
Don't say that, the dummies in here will just pile on you. I see a lot of stupid comments in here about pits and I'm not going to correct anything, just reading and laughing.

More "overly Agressive" BS. Keep pretending you know what your talking about.
Keep pretending pitbulls are not an extremely aggressive breed. Just get an Australian Shepard - smarter, prettier, will get you into shape, overall an awesome dog. But you won’t get Alpha Male points with one, amirite?

Its clear people who disaree with you are just "insert label". I dont own a pit bye the way and never have, but sure disreguard all that and imagine all us pitbull defenders as men trying to redirect attention from our obviously small penises. Bravo you got my motivation all figured out.

Please point out on the doll where the Pitbull touched you?

I'll tell you what, I'll take everything I said about pittbulls back if we can get a full year without reading a story of one mauling or killing someone. Your getting over defensive over a breed of dog that's been know to kill sleeping babies in cribs and tear elderly people to pieces.

A full year on the internet without something happening that you can point to and declare "I knew it"? Seriously. A whole year online? It wont take a single month. You can find anything you want happening at every single moment online now if ya want. Thats what the social Activist are doing right this sec to find whatever there looking for...and guess what they will. Its got to be the shittest thing with the internet and information at scale in general.

Pits are actually one of the friendlier, more docile breeds compared to other dogs. Smaller breed dogs tend to be the most aggressive and actually contribute to the majority of dog bite incidents every year in the US.

How many people die from smaller breeds, tho? Or lose an arm or leg?

Never seen a chihuahua killing someone. Or a dachshund. Or an yorkshire, zwergspitz, and the list goes on.

Smaller breeds tend to be the most aggressive, but how about the damage?

I can assure you that this girl would still have her nose and arm intact if it was a smaller breed.

There's two issues with the Pit Bull breed:
  • They are a lot more predisposed to aggression than the average breed.
  • Their strength and bite power is incredible.
You can talk about how many sweet Pit Bulls you've met in life, but the combination of these two points should not be ignored. If I get attacked by most any other breeds, I'm most likely walking away from that incident fine. Maybe some bruises and cuts, and maybe if it's bad enough I'll have to go to the hospital for stiches and a shot. But if I get attacked by a Pit Bull, it's a life or death situation. They are so fucking powerful, and once they snap on to you and start tearing, they don't stop.

This thread motivated me to due some research on dog attacks statistics from recorded attacks in the last 10 years. Pit Bulls are the #1 Breed for dog attacks and deaths. The #2 dog was Rottweiler and the #3 was German Shepherds. Do you know what the gap between Pit Bulls and Rottweilers were? The answer was roughly the same in all my research. Roughly a 55-60% gap between the two. Pit Bulls make up more than half of all dog attacks and death across all breeds.

Nobody is denying the existence of sweet Pit Bulls. But they're fucking animals. And as an animal their minds operate on different wavelength than we do. We sometimes can't comprehend their reasoning for snapping and going after a human, despite being so sweet and loving before. They operate on instinct, not a moral compass. So the fact that these creatures are built to fuck you up, seems like playing with fire.

That’s interesting. Have you guys heard of micro needling? It’s tiny little incisions you give to your skin or hair to improve appearance. It stimulates hair growth on the scalp.
People use micro needles in combination with stuff like rogaine to regrow hair.

So I’m not sure what’s going on with the specific nose area in this instance, there is other evidence on injuries waking up hair follicles and bringing them back to life. I think people have used it on their face to grow more facial hair as well.

IMO the problem is not if they're more aggressive. Heck I bet Chihuahuas are more aggressive. The problem is the potential for harm that pitbulls represent even if they lose control only once in their lives. So many times I see cases where the owners claim it was the noblest of dogs until the day it got mad and killed or mutilated someone.

yeah, I wouldn't be worried if a Shiba Inu had a bad day, but one of those and you're the one having a really bad day.

at this point I would be less worried if someone that has a fully grown cheetah on a leash walked towards me, than someone with a pitbull.

The pit bull argument is beaten to death back and forth.

Just make pitbull owners responsible for the full extent of legal, medical, recovery and potentially pain and suffering costs if their animal so much as snaps at someone.

Its something thats going to be hard to ban completely, or even to regulate much like guns. So the best way is to make the risk of owning one exponentially high.

There's something similar in place called The Dangerous Dog List on home insurances, I'm sure you've at least heard of this. I know when I bought my house a few years ago, my home insurance provided a list of dogs I cannot own if I am to remain under coverage. It's not a perfect system obviously.

I think what needs to happen is more research needs to go into why some Pit Bulls just snap the way they do. It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure it out if it's a bad owner, but there are tons of story of Pit Bulls owned by loving and responsible owners, who just fucking snap outta nowhere and attack someone. For example there was that one horrific story last October in Memphis. Normal looking family of 4, had two pitbull. The dogs were in the backyard with the 2 year old and 5 year old. The two Pits attacked the kids and tore them to pieces. The mother tried to stop them, and then they turned on her. She was hospitalized, while Police and Paramedics spent the afternoon puking their guts out at the scene. And of course the parents claimed that the Pit Bulls were sweethearts and never showed signs of violence. No reason not to believe them, otherwise why let the kids play with them?

What I think needs to happen is to start enforcing education and awareness for any home owner who wants to own a Pit Bull. You need to be licensed. Maybe have to attend a couple of seminars. A 50-60% gap between Pit Bull attack/deaths and the dog in second place, is fucking bananas. The world doesn't need to become Anti-Pit Bull, but we are well past the days of willful ignorance. This dog breed is dangerous, and it's completely irresponsible to believe otherwise. For the safety of the owner, the neighbors, and the dog itself.

Wife and me were deciding between pitbull and podenco. I had a few pitbulls as dogsitter and I kinda like the breed. But I’m so happy that we opted for a podenco mix. It‘s not that I‘m afraid of the dogs, but my wife with her 52 kilos probably can‘t handle their strength if they go full rope pulling mode, whereas if our little podenco doesn‘t behave it‘s easy for her to pick him up and give him some timeout. Reading this article confirmed my decision as a good one.

most small people can't handle a large dog no matter the breed if they "go full rope pulling mode". Don't give them the leverage or the leeway. Doesn't matter what it is you are responsible. This is why harnesses are such a bad idea even small dogs.

Picking them up when they are acting out is just reinforcing and rewarding the bad behavior. smh

Glad you got a small dog but they can still bite peole and cause damage.

Yeah, Rottweilers do not do this type of shit. They get a bad rap because they were villainized in too many 80s and 90s movies.
That is totally unlike what is happening to pitties right now......right?

I mean this site sucks but it is bias towards banning dogs, and somehow holding dogs more responsible than the humans but they are number 2.

Pit bulls have no self preservation. It was literally bred out of them. That’s why so many attack and continue until they die or the victim does. Why we have tried to make a family pet out of this breed or any bully breed is insanity. Yes you Can blame the owner for a bad dog, but bully breeds are predisposed to this behavior because they were bred to be the way they are. they aren’t ”fixable”. You just get or create another breed.

Shame about the dog. They can be fiercely protective breeds for certain. I'm guessing that argument got much more heated than she or he were willing to admit. The dog clearly believed he was "protecting" his human. If anyone should have been put down, it's the idiotic fuck of an old man that doesn't know how to raise his dogs properly.

It's okay, you're not the only one who made it obvious that you didn't read what happened or why she has hair growing there.

That's what you getting for having a bunch of piercings up your nose along with a nose ring and a ugly ass putbull. She already looked ugly as sin, the dog decided to finish the job and make sure it stays that way. Good doggo, I approve.

EDIT - This is meant as a silly sarcastic joke post simply because I dislike nose piercings and can't stand pit bulls. Please stop taking things seriously.
Bad taste 👀

It's soooo fucking good when one man shows up with facts to take a dump on a bunch of know-it-alls who think that their anecdotal evidence should arm them with the clairvoyance to make life-or-death judgements on the rest of the world.

If pit bulls make up more than half of all dog attacks and deaths, you can debate the reasons for it, but not the outcome which is all that really matters here.

Thank you. Bear in mind I didn't conduct any research myself. I googled a bunch of stats on dog attacks and tried to stick to studies conducted in the past 10 years. I stopped at about 6 articles, but they all yielded roughly the same results. Pit Bull attacks range from 50 - 60% of dog attacks, including fatalities. Like I said before, Rottweilers are #2 on these lists, but in the past 10 years there have been 8 fatal attacks by Rotties. You wanna know how many fatalities were caused by Pit Bulls? 290.

I'm a dog lover, and would never advocate for the eradication of Pit Bulls. It's not their fault they were bred the way they were. But something absolutely has to change with Pit Bill awareness and education.

Oh I was sure you just looked online, but put in a lot more effort than most to even look up that many articles or research papers to comprise the data.

I also like dogs. To use my other analogy again I like cats too but I wouldn't advocate owning tigers. The issue is that they are loose cannons and can't be trusted. I'm not sure how awareneness or education would fix this. For example if a person had been more aware about pit bulls, would that have stopped this girls arm from getting torn open? I don't call for the eradication of pit bulls per se in the way of rounding them up for execution, but indirectly I do because I don't think they should be legal which would obviously be catastrophic for them. I mean yeah that REALLY sucks but I'm just putting human interests first.

I agree with all that. Unfortunately my solution on tightening restrictions on gaining ownership of a Pit Bull would also mean more homeless Pit Bulls, which is already a problem. I still think it would help to an extent. And on your point that I bolded, I would hope that proper research into the breed could perhaps educate people on how to be aware of warning signs, or things not to do that might confuse the animal. It's not perfect but I think everyone can agree that new measures need to be taken to prevent this from continuing to happen.

Anyway it sucks and it's sad, but it's also humanity's fault for breeding them the way we did, and then trying to domestic them. The whole story surrounding Pit Bulls is sad.

I hear what you're saying but it comes back to the same point. We can do everything necessary to make an attack less likely, but ultimately cannot fully control for the decision to attack (that decision belongs to the animal) and as in this case, the animal is a deadly weapon, a solution does not exist.

I don't even think you can show how preparedness would have helped in this situation in any way. From the information we know, no action was taken to startle or upset the dog. For that matter, she may have been more aware of the dangers of pit bulls than the average American. What would you do to prevent this from continuing to happen?

Imagine having a "domesticated" tiger as a pet, it attacks and people start talking about awareness of what upsets tigers as the solution. Um, no the solution is to get a fucking cat instead.

It's kind of strange for a woman to have a piece of scalp grafted to her nose that grows hair (because, you know, that's what your scalp does) and to bring up Rogaine lol.
That would be weird!

Rogaine is related to the regrowth of hair. Let me know if you need more help.

Maybe she can spin this into a positive and create a new trend with a second set of hair to style on her nose. Soon, we'll all be looking for nose hair growth solutions. You can help by bringing up wigs, hair dye and styles next.
Why would she do that?

She isn’t discussing strange forms of hair growth on a forum like we are.

I am mildly amused by how much my rogaine/micro needle post has perturbed you, but also slightly concerned.

I think the most perturbing part is that you called her story "interesting". But must not have really found it that interesting because you never looked at what actually happened to her or why before getting into micro needles and Rogaine. If you had you'd have probably realized it was tone deaf despite being true. I think you're just interested in practical solutions to hair growth, not what happened to this lady. Somehow you ALWAYS manage to come off as being the actual guy in your avatar lol.

Cheer up.

Someone bringing up hair regrowth methods in a thread even tangentially related to any form of hair growth is a-okay.

You’re right that I don’t really care why happened to this lady. So what. Being this anal about my posts isn’t going to be good for your blood pressure.

On topic, stress also contributes to hair loss.

Literally nothing you have said in this thread has made sense so I'm legitimately curious if you're doing a bit. If so, it sucks. Reading your nonsense again won't change anything.

Not sure why you’re so confused. My posts do make sense.

I think you’re just getting a little flustered. Maybe go do something else or engage with another topic? Idk what to tell ya, bud. Not here trying to entertain you.
