Media Create Sales: Week 34, 2014 (Aug 18 - Aug 24)

Yes, but that's what I mean. Capcom isn't even announcing mobile titles.

That said thinking back they did wait until TGS itself for quite a few of those.

As for Level 5 I feel they generally pre-plan releasing 500 new games in their kids IP so that doesn't seem like something that would eat a lot of unexpected staff unless the company has shrunk recently.

They could be waiting until things are further along these days, but relative to their historical behavior they're quite quiet.

The shipment is about 35-40K supposedly, so likely less than that.

Wow, lower than I expected.

1 million for DQH is crazy.

Here's a look at a more reasonable number for a Dragon Quest spin-off "returning for the opposing company home console":

Media Create [WII] Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors {2007-07-12} (Square Enix) - 305,254 / 523,103

I can accept 600k for DQH, but 1 million sounds like the crazy forecast of a Japanese developer. =P

You can serve me crow later if you're right. =P

It reminds me of the pre release sentiment that the PS4 would sell well in Japan.

I could see 500 k happening but a million is pushing it.

Dude it will sell 700k on PS3 alone.

Our predictions are based on how One Piece Musou performed. I think it's a much better comparison than Swords.

Anyway, a random website is saying Nintendo will announce another Direct tomorrow.

http://www.gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=236371

Someone on Twitter leaked the last Direct, so it could be true. Guess we won't have to wait too long to find out.

I don't know what their source says, but I can't imagine there being another Japan-only Direct. They have had one for third-parties on the 3DS and they just had the New 3DS one. The next one would need to be a general Direct or a Wii U one, and that would surely be worldwide.

At least it will be confirmed/wrong tomorrow.

This might be me making broad assumptions, but given that Dragon Quest is primarily a video game franchise, it is likely to have more fans that would already be invested in series like Warriors over popular franchises of other media.
That might explain why stuff like One Piece and Fist of the North Star did so well in their first iterations, but not so much during their other outings.
It's also why I think Gundam was more consistent, with a more modest debut and steady sales overall. Yes, it's a big cross-media franchise like the other 2, but nowadays, most of its appeal lies in the games.

So while One Piece Pirate Warriors and Fist of the North Star Ken's Rage were huge, I can't see Dragon Quest Heroes doing as well.
But were it to become a franchise, I think it could remain more consistent overall.

So you're expecting it to sell better on the PS3 than any other DQ spinoff other than the handheld DQM games? Looking at the numbers posted on the last page, it looks like it would be pretty hard to pull that off.

Yes if One Piece can do it, I'm sure as hell DQ can.

Btw, according to the trailer, Dragon Quest Heroes is coming in Spring 2015. That's pretty "soon".

I read the schedule for the 24 hour JP launch stream... oh dear.

The 38k number was sales prediction from Sinobi, not shipment has been given.

I can definitely understand the more pessimistic estimates as well.

That said one thing we haven't seen a lot of is the quality of the title. Since we are talking about a more gamer centric audience they're presumably going to be harder to convince that it's a good game, but also more responsive if the quality is better.

Of course, it's Musou so unless they're actually mixing things up a bit there are probably some broad assumptions we can make.

Dragon quest will sell the vast majority on the ps3 if it is coming soon unless it is bundled with the ps4 and launches with a price drop to 30k yen. I can see it dragging itself to a million eventually.

Nintendo Russia still links to the Hyrule Warriors direct. Fake as fuck.

It is bundled, and it has a special edition ps4 too.

The producer said on twitter that it wasn't a typical Musou game, so who knows.

You mean leaked the N3DS direct? Wasn't the rumor that it was supposed to be a Smash 3DS direct which technically was wrong? Also yeah there was that Hyrule Warriors Direct mistake.

Not sure if serious. You don't need specific data suggest it. Evidences are everywhere.

evidence shows cross gen titles are good fillers and it definitely does not help new platform "a lot". VITA had a redesign and a price drop to go along with the more consistent release schedule to get to where it is at now (which is no longer terrible but not good either). For those multi PS platform titles for PS4, it will certainly help in Japan but they won't change the trend until the big exclusive (likely FFXV) hits.

I don't know if we've seen enough high profile cross gen to gauge their impact in Japan at least in the home console space. I think there's certainly enough to show that in other markets cross gen titles have been facilitatory towards transition in a big way.

Each entry did quite solid numbers.

It's still a bit weird.

Does that mean that GE2 actually is a million seller?

GE+GEB was around 1.25m back before GE2 was released (this was around April/May last year). Last known number we have from GE2 is 700k(includes digital; this was from Bandai Namco's financial report thingy). I have huge doubt that GEB would even sell more than 100k in that span time until GE2's release. Even if they did went 200k, that's still ~1m for GE2.

Then again, GE2 did better than GE/GEB's first week, so I guess there's that.

I just realized something. In all the excitement for Persona 5, it seems that people have largely forgotten that Persona 4 Dancing All Night wasn't anywhere in the conference. It would have fit right in when they were showing all those otaku stuff for Vita too. The release date is supposed to be Fall this year. Could this indicate that it has been delayed as well?

Everything shown at the release montage there... had a release date, right?

U don't think I saw GTA V there as well. Could be wrong though.

It's either dead or delayed to kingdom come.

Dingo delayed Love Live game right when it was about to be released, then delayed it again for one more month (3 months total). It also resulted to continuous pre-order cancellations according to some shops.

Dingo's probably having some problem with the Vita's more-complex-than-PS3's 20-SPE Cell architecture.
inb4 someone took the last part as serious.

Yeah, when someone put out images of it in the other thread I was like "Oh yeah this exists."

I think some of these games might show up at different dates around TGS, but it could be delayed as well.

Total Japan = ~2 million

GEB Rest of the World = ~0.45

That's how I read it

We haven't seen P4 Dancing since the unveiling (or at least when it was announced for NA) right? Trying to remember which. It was announced for NA IIRC. But I can't recall a legit second update of it.

I really don't think it's helpful to add expansion re-releases together and consider that a LTD total for a game. I've talked about that before here, but I'll press the point again. If we want to add budget re-releases to get a better picture of the total userbase for the same title, I can understand that. But with expansion re-releases, it doesn't really work that way. The additional content is substantial, and a lot of the people buying it are people who already own the original, because they want more content. It's not the same game, and they're usually full price releases.

GE Burst isn't mainly selling to people who don't already have GE, just like how MH4G isn't going to be selling to people who haven't bought MH4. The same goes for stuff like the KH Final Mix releases and the MGS full priced re-releases with tons of additional content. They're basically targeted at fans who want more out of the same game.

Well in the case of Monster Hunter, every expansion thus far has shown growth over the vanilla version.
Of course I expect that to finally end with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

So,
GE+GEB = 1.25 (Japan)
GE2 = 700k (Japan)
Total Japan = ~2 million

GEB Rest of the World = ~0.45

I dunno. That 1.25m sales back then was not specified whether WW or Japan-only. I've always assume it was WW, because if it sold that significant more of an amount (450k in west) then they would have put it in for more handsome points.

Busaiku

The sales of God Eater and God Eater Burst were about 1.05 million through the end of 2012.
It'd make sense for shipments to be 1.25 million.

The rest of the world includes the US, Europe, and Asia.
God Eater and God Eater 2 were also released in Asia, so that that 450k (assuming it is that), would include those and not just God Eater Burst.

When was this number given?

Media Create until december 2013:

[PSP] God Eater (Bandai Namco) {2010.02.04} - 634.645
[PSP] God Eater: Burst (Bandai Namco) {2010.10.28} - 469.505
[PSP] God Eater Burst [PSP the Best] (Bandai Namco) {2011.09.15} - 149.663
[PSP] God Eater Burst [PSP the Best 2nd Print] (Bandai Namco) {2013.06.06} - 51.544

Total GE+GEB = 1.305.357

It's just Japan. Then you add the 700k for GE2 and we have the 2 million in Japan. 0,45 for the rest of the world.

Duckroll I know we should't add expansions, I just did it because that's the Namco's shipment they share.

Busaiku

Those are the sell-through figures.
The shipment's greater than that, so it'd definitely be less than 450k outside of Japan.

Yeah, makes sense.
700k for God Eater 2 was shipped though.

Famitsu has this until 29th of June 2014 (digital not included):

[PSV] God Eater 2 # <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.11.14} (¥5.980) - 393.531
[PSP] God Eater 2 <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.11.14} (¥5.980) - 205.276
Total = 598.807

So i guess a little less than 400k outside Japan.

I agree. Otherwise by that logic...

Monster Hunter Tri - Wii - 1,077,273
Monster Hunter Tri PSP - 4,801,854
Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate Wii U - 218,831
Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate 3DS - 1,924,664

Making one game sell 8,022,622 copies =P. It does show that Capcom made a crap ton of money on MH3/3U though, even if it was from a base of about 5-6 million or something.

To begin with, what you called MH Tri on PSP is actually MH Portable 3rd, which does not belong to MH Tri line, and it's a completely different game.

I was sure it was in a promo vid or CM, but I couldn't find it (one TV CM is now private, it might have been that.). Either ways, I found an article instead.

http://www.4gamer.net/games/115/G011549/20130502041/

Dated May 2 2013. The article says 1.2m though instead of 1.25m.

This was before the re-pricing to 1800 yen, which was in june 6.

I do remember searching back then what the sales of each version was and came with a number of 610k and 470k respectively (2010 and 2011 financial reports). gamedatamuseum has different numbers.

700k for GE2 was until end of March, a few months before the 2800yen price down. There's also the Boueihan.

Wait really? I had always assumed MHP3 was a port of the Wii game and thus was amazed at its boost in popularity. Was MHP3 entirely new then? Hm interesting, although are there different series or something then?
