Is that good for Mario Golf? Also, man, I don't get the legs for handheld, online-less Mario Party.

It's probably fair to say that all four of those will be considered system sellers. Yet, Yokai Watch released last year, Monster Hunter 4 released last year, and two Pokemon titles released last year. Which cats are compelled to buy hardware based on these titles, yet didn't buy the machine last year?

I guess you see the same thing in the west with CoD and FIFA. I just never think of them as system sellers.

A big bet is Smash Bros obviously. It might be just "ok" saleswise but it could absolutely explode as well. There is no reference yet for a handheld Smash. I believe Iwata raised the forecast for the 3DS a bit to get away with a hopefully understating Wii U prediction.

Post-beast-mode 3DS still stomping everyone else :D

2014 brought Curtain Call and will soon bring RSE remakes which is objectivly the best set of Pokemon games since GSC. 3DS deserves such "stomping"

But only if I can get my FFVI remake then my 3DS purchase will be fully justified.

Oh, definitely. I wasn't really referring to Smash Bros in that post, that one's all new and shiny. I can totally understand why that would significantly move the needle.

NES Remix held sorta decently... I expected it to drop out of the top 30 real quick.

Aye, I know. I get it, but I don't get it, if you get it. I know it happens, I just can't fathom significant numbers of people going out and buying a device they already own because it now has a sticker on it. Still, that's the market they're catering to and it obviously works.

I don't get it either, but considering the insane amount of special edition 3DS out there, it's obviously working...

There's no direct reference for Smash. Is there any reference to draw from from other fighters on handheld systems though. How have they typically performed?

Now that Nintendo has announced Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, 3DS will have four big releases for the second half of the year:

Yo-kai Watch 2 (July 10)
Super Smash Bros. 3DS (Summer 2014)
Monster Hunter 4G (Autumn 2014)
Pokémon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire (November 2014)

There's also Taiko in October.
Could be a big game a month from July.

I think the closest reference in terms of type and platform would be the Jump Superstars games on the DS. The first game did >500k, and the second game sold almost 800k. That was like 8 years ago though. Generally fighters on portable don't do so hot because there are better versions of the same game out on consoles at the same time or long before the portable versions.

I think he is only listing potential million-sellers.

Taiko is a 500k game, there are some other "big" games too, like Persona, Dragon Ball, Senran Kagura, etc.

It did ok.

3DS: Mario Golf World Tour ( Nintendo ) { 2014-05-01 } - 58,745 / ?
GBA : Mario Golf: Advance Tour ( Nintendo ) { 2004-04-22 } - 28,581 / 88,904
NGC : Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour ( Nintendo ) { 2003-09-05 } - 63,263 / 192,802
N64 : Mario Golf 64 ( Nintendo ) { 1999-06-11 } - 126,108 / 470,778
NGB : Mario Golf GB ( Nintendo ) { 1999-08-10 } - 92,760 / 219,830

Good to see Vita safely in the beast mode zone for another week :3.

PS4 will get sub 10k next week probably. There is like, nothing coming out correct? Tho I suspect it will have a much better year in 2015+ with the exception of the launch weeks. At this rate there will be a pricedrop before Japanese support starts to move from PS3 to PS4. I just hope Sony has some plans to get momentum going next year cause this year will be dead as shit.

Looking at Garaph and JapanLTDRanking. It seems like Street Fighter IV on 3DS did around 130-150K, around the same as vanilla and Super did on PS3. Other handheld fighting games on 3DS have horrible performance.

I do think Duckroll is right about the Jump comparison, both in terms of the gameplay being similar and in that they're both franchise crossovers with recognizable characters. I think the latter point is important, since fighting games seem to be well past their prime in Japan.

On one hand I'd say SSB has much higher selling power than JSS, but on the other hand 3DS is no DS and some people might indeed wait for the WiiU version, though I can't imagine it's a huge factor :x

It did ok.
Pretty good, actually :D

That Vita number is embarrassing considering Golden Week. Good to see other platform numbers pumped especially 3DS being back to its feet.

I wonder if Monster Hunter has developed an "I'll wait for the G release" fanbase. It seems sort-of logical given how many people round these parts talk about holding out for the GOTY versions of games, but on the other hand, I don't really see such an idea posited often.

Triple post now that's impressive

Mario golf seems to have a less than stellar opening but I guess that's the usual case for some of the smaller mario titles? Legs will dictate LTD more than opening
