K-Pop Fanboy/Fangirl |OT7| A Great Trash Leader as Always

I don't get why them wanting to act was the motivation for them to leave. Yoona is the most established actress by far in the group and she's staying with SM so it doesn't really make sense. It seems more like they wanna turn the page definitively on SNSD.

I thought Seohyun wanted to do music more than acting, or am I confusing with Suzy?

As for Tiffany, if she really wants to act I can only see it happening in Korea. It's already pretty hard for East Asians to break into Hollywood and I think her personality is just too cute and Korean at this point for her to be taken seriously unless she changes drastically. She could definitely have a singing career in the US though. I still think "Heartbreak Hotel" is the best SM Station track to this day and the English song she did with Far East Movement was great too.

wow that 10th anni went out in a whimper =/

That’s the part that’s really screwed up. The signs were so obvious the girls were going their separate ways, but SM felt the need to shorten and stiff their 10th anniversary comeback to coerce all of them to resign. Their promotion was like a week and a half? No concerts either.

Wow I didn't expect that to happen this fast. It hurts as they were my beginning into Korea's related stuff. Farewell SM Soshi, you'll forever be legends.
Finally they're free.. ish.

I really hope that's it. That it's finally over. Better that than having to suffer more of the half-assed bullshit that we've seen from SM over the last few years. Give the group the respect it deserves and let it rest in peace.

Since the time she did Gone With The Wind musical (with Bada) she wanted to pursuit acting and musical career.
As for the Suzy comparison, she once said SM refused (or there was some schedule conflict) the Architect 101 main role to her. It went to Suzy.

3 Days! Longer the teasers periods than the promotion time.
With f(x) dead and SNSD ending, there's now Red Velvet left to represent GG for SM.

Seohyun probably just saw the North Korea situation is getting serious and decided to go save the country.

Kind of lost for words, though with the way SM treated the 10th anniversary i'm not genuinely that surprised, deep down after 4Minute, 2NE1 and all the other first gen groups disbanding etc I knew this would be an inevitability.

However, i'm genuinely beyond sad about this one far more than the others. When Gee first released a friend of mine had shared the video to me, and It was from that moment I was completely enveloped in the world of K-Pop, and i'll always be incredibly thankful to them for that. Man :(

SNSD, 2NE1, 4Minute, T-ARA, KARA, SISTAR, etc... are second gen. First gen is more like S.E.S. and Fin.K.L

I wouldn't be surprised if we hear of the new SM girl group before the year ends. Unless they pull an out of nowhere f(x) comeback *daydreams*

Doubt it, the last rumours we heard about a new SM girl group is that they were in trouble due the lack of talent and it was still a work in progress.

Also, good recap of a lot of reasons why Seolady was surely leaving.

Daaaaamn that is a huge load of bullshit. Everyone knows she is a runner for best Soshi and they held her back that hard?

Man fuck SM. Seohyun is amazing and you don't want to let her do anything other than the one little role you designed for her. That's some real petty shit.

Coming from the mind of Horse Fany this afternoon:

VastMeanHartebeest-max-14mb.gif

HQ Gfycat version coz idk how to embed it:

https://gfycat.com/VastMeanHartebeest

Jokes aside, if that's true then yeah, I can see why she left and she deserves to.

Now I think I'm gonna go back and rewatch her episode on KB and see if we all missed something.

Also, this begs the question... what the fuck is SM gonna do now? Rot in hell with boy groups?

If I'm Red Velvet, I'd probably be looking at a super quick exit considering how management doesn't give a shit about their own people and history.

They don't give a shit about girl groups, not exactly their people as a whole, that's how Korea and the industry works, not only SM.

Why do you think you haven't heard anything from the Onew scandal? lmao

Why? They’ve pushed Red Velvet more than any of their other groups over the past year. Variety show, concert, official fan name, album etc.

Personally couldn’t care less about the SNSD stuff. They may have been part of the reason I got into K-Music but that group died when Sica left (And in hindsight what a good decision that was for her), they haven’t put anything good out in years and rarely come together as a group anyway.

Assuming they signed the standard 7 year contract, Red Velvet is dead in 2021 at the latest for sure. Irene will be 30, very few active popular girl groups have members over 30, in fact only Sojin comes to mind right now and she doesn't act as far as I know whereas Irene is getting into acting and so is Joy. Plus after seeing how their sunbaes were treated, I can't see what motivation they'll have to re-sign.

On a more positive note: Chungha is making a comeback next month.

Sojin (and 'Bestie' Haeryung and a Produce 101 girl) are in a drama that starts next week

I'd heard about SM turning down that Architecture 101 role for Seohyun but missed a lot of the rest of that list. Rough stuff. Glad she has been (and will continue to) get work and succeed on her own.

[M/V] NU'EST W(뉴이스트 W) - WHERE YOU AT
This is so damn good. The jump from Pledis basement limbo to this big budget comeback has to be the biggest popularity jump since EXID's Up & Down. I wonder how close to disbandment they were some months ago.

In general, Pledis is on a roll, and is up there with the big three, with 3 moderately popular groups in active.

TRCNG - Spectrum M/V
TS, in the other hand, have lost the plot with this BTS retread.

[Teaser] House Rulez 2017 Series 2nd Episode "행성OST" 하우스룰즈
I wonderif Yehana is Pristin's Yehana. That could be a cool collab to land that early in her career.

Hyoyeon resigned with SM...? What is she gonna do? :/
Hard to see just the remaining members as a group when Taeyeon could just go solo and probably have more success. I hope they have some plans though. Definitely rough to see the group split. Gee was the first k-pop song that I followed full of hype from first teaser to release. My fave promotions will always be Genie though.

It’s a damn shame imo though I guess I’m not surprised.

Judging by how it took a TV show for SES to make a proper comeback speaks volumes imo. Actually had Totoga not happened, I don’t think Turbo, Sechs Kies and whoever else would be back together.

Why? They’ve pushed Red Velvet more than any of their other groups over the past year. Variety show, concert, official fan name, album etc.

You’re looking at it from a short sighted perspective.

What I’m saying is that the optics are bad for SM and if I’m RV, I’d probably be fighting tooth and nail once the contract expires, but that’s if they want to survive.

And more importantly, this just shows that SM doesn’t really care about you even if you’ve brought them shittons of money before. So if you’re a prospective/current idol, would you still really want to join them considering that they just throw you away once your use is expired?

Like I get that it’s a business and blah blah blah, and fandoms work in cycles, but they’re not bulletproof and it’s going to hurt eventually.

Exactly.

Most people just see the trees but they don’t try to see what’s beyond the forest.

10 years ago you could push things under the rug like with DBSK and 2PM. But in the age of social media, it’s going to catch up really quick.

In terms of Red Velvet, I guess we will have to wait and see, but it won't matter how bad they treat their idols if it gets proven that they will treat the ones that don't resign, worse (blacklisting, etc).

As for the appeal of signing for SM, as sad as it is, it's probably better landing in SM and have some miserable couple of years, but eventually be succesful, than stick to a no name company, being as miserable or more and with a high chance of not making it big.

I have to admit I quite into April. Especially their current promotions for 'Take my Hand' are so good, I love the song. (Though I am noticing with the similar gfriend sound how vital Yuju actually is to gfriends music, since April sometimes struggles vocally bless them).

Anyway, I was watching them on ASC and they made them play this game where they were given snippets of their songs/instrumentals and had to finish it. Pretty interesting to see how they struggle when they don't go through the normal routine of their songs. Having to think about lyrics or steps of songs they've performed countless times. They also got really aggressive. Not a side you expect to see from their super innocent cutesy concept. It's nice that they show their personality, but the show did them wrong with that game. If I were the manager I'd ask for a rock-paper-scissors type game where they don't have to fight over who gets the points. Very amusing though. Later they danced to Gashina and were shooting eachother??

Who will challenge Perfume for the longest continuously running girl group crown?
Dunno, but you should start posting more again; busy schedule and life obligations permitting.

What he said.
While the end was inevitable and I'm glad to see the unnecessary drop in quality and poor management decisions come finally be over it's still hard to see one of the most significant groups in K-Pop history slowly erode as it crossed the finish line.

I don't really like One More Time, but at the end of the day, it's a Japanese comeback so

giphy.gif
The best album that After School and SNSD have released were Japanese language, though.

No, it's not a common occurrence but there is precedent.

Oh sure. It just amused me that the editor was alternating between shots of Luda and Dayoung on one side of the room and Luda and Xuan Yi on the other. It sort of fits the narrative that there are so many members in WJSN that it's hard to keep track of them all.
A narrative I like to perpetuate wherever possible. :p
Heh, that should have been obvious but I had my serious reply hat on tight. That part of my brain may have simply wanted to display how it can differentiate between the various members of WJSN48.

"Catch Me if You Can" may not have been great, but it is a good song. It was also the focus of one of their best performances, regardless of group era: the 2015 SBS Gayo stage.

Happy birthday to Suzy btw. Hard to believe she's only turning 23.

I started watching her new drama "While You Were Sleeping" and it's pretty good so far. Hopefully she'll still have some time to put out some music. "Yes, No, Maybe" is definitely one of my favorite tracks this year.

Truly a talented and beautiful woman

I remember watching this Music Core performance of "Hush" and being totally stunned by her visuals.

Oh and she did a cover of "Very, Very, Very" during her V Live BDAY special tonight so that made my day.

Just moved, but yeah. I considered posting about every Hyori's B&B episode as it was aired but it would've just been "Look how nice and sweet this place / these people are".

Don't watch dramas (or anything) anymore, but still have much love for Suzy. <3

Check out Hyori's B&B bro

You’re looking at it from a short sighted perspective.
Because that's exactly what this industry is. Short term. If Red Velvet's contracts were to expire in 2021 then that's a 7 year run. That's a few years longer than most groups manage. I'd like to think they are smart enough to realise that careers in the industry don't last long and will be thinking about the future with that in mind. It's why so many idols look towards other industries like acting, or trying to get into variety, modelling etc. Companies are always going to be looking toward the future and looking towards ways of making more money, and if they can drop you in favour of someone younger, prettier and fresher they won't hesitate to.

In terms of Red Velvet, they are getting a push from SM that most groups or idols would dream for. It's easy to look at it and think that SM might treat them poorly in the future but what difference does it make? If you asked them whether they'd prefer to switch places with some nugu group at some no-name agency I doubt they'd say yes.

I don't blame the companies for having a short term mentality though. They pump a ridiculous amount of money into training and housing idols, then there is the cost of producing and releasing music. If they get to a point where they believe that it is no longer worth investing in a group then so be it. Yeah sure it can suck if it's a group that you're fan of but at the end of the day all groups have a short lifespan and it's not as if they are independent artists releasing music they've created themselves, without their company behind them they wouldn't exist in the first place.
