As for the personality part, she's just following the money. She's got a shitload of endorsement money in China ad with Olympics being there it's her opportunity to cash in even more.
Now that Olympics is over, like any athlete she'll straddle the line of endorsements from any country/continent hoping nobody calls her out like NBA players got grilled for NBA partnership money and never bringing up politics and oppression.
Then again, why should any athlete really care about politics? Just stick to sports and rake in the cash as a mercenary. Leave the politics to government. But common folks expect athletes to act like government officials.
