HBO Original | The Last of Us - Review Thread

I'm sorry, you are not making much of a point by anything you listed. You don't seem to have read what I wrote (e.g., recent, House of the Dragon is good, Watchmen is trash). You might be equating "critic" reception with good, which I disagree with. Either way, I am having a hard time seeing how TLOU survives the updates for a modern audience. The first game is outdated by todays ridiculous standards, while the second game fits right in.

By critics standards and my own eyes and ears. I loved all those shows

Lol, modern audience indeed. No worries, good for you, trash for me. Enjoy TLOU, I will continue to not subscribe. And if it is good, like House of the Dragon ended up being, I look forward to being wrong and watching it.

Btw, HBO is on a losing streak, their numbers keep going down.
Sources? I know Warner Bros is a sinking ship but HBO numbers were almost at 100M subscribers WW.

Trustworthy audience score ;)

Lmao…people talking about review bombing like that matters to HBO. Wait for official numbers on how big the audience is. That’s what matters.

Like they will care that some greesy gamer living in a basement review bombs this tv show cause they hated tlou2 the videogame and didn’t even saw the tv show .

Besides if this is a hit with the gp i feel like the review bombing won’t really do much to the show’s average score.

People never nitpick every spider-man iteration for being different

Sounds like you're just making this assumption based on your quick perception of how the latest films and games are received by the casual audiences.

I have been a massive fan of Spider-Man for over 35 years and the franchise and it's many interpretations have been far from immune to criticism.

I think a review bomb could have a huge impact on whether casual fans watch this.

I already have concerns that the zombie fatigue might have set in. I don't hear any non-gamers talking about this show. And outside of last of us fans, the discussion is mostly from hate-filled incels, Xbox fans, and RW fanatics.

This is a big test for Sony to try and overcome a lot of hurdles in front of this show.

This show might be 5-6 years too late.

Zombie fatigue has been settling in for the last 20 years. Any day now

Zombie fatigue has been settling in for the last 20 years. Any day now

I mean that just really isn't true.

In 2002, 28 days later brought the genre back to life.
2004s shaun of the dead was a hit comedy take on it.
2007s I am Legend was a huge box office hit (zombies or vampires though, you decide)
2009's zombieland was a hit
2010s the walking dead was a cult phenom
2013's the last of us was a hit as well World War Z

Where the fatigue set in was with the decline of the walking dead as the standard bearer for the genre, the decline in viewership after season 5. This coincided with declining viewership of iZombie. The relative failure of Days Gone. Zombieland 2 performed worse than Zombieland 1 accounting for inflation and budget.

The Last of Us is going to be a real test to whether zombie fatigue is real or if it's restricted to the troubled development of individual titles.

People are only review bombing this because Bella Ramsey isn't an actress that looks like a doll lol

If they casted Kaitlyn Dever for this im pretty sure no one would be review bombing :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It’s just the latest thing for the neckbeards to complain about but if it wasn’t that it’d be something else. There are people who center their entire lives around the hatred they have for TLOU and Druckmann.

So, sounds like the show is contaminated by the same "let's make changes for the modern audience" symptoms? I take it it will be as trash as TLOU2?

Comforting Black And White GIF by Warner Archive

Its a 98% on Rottentomatoes and the audience score is going up, its a hit dear

Is that the critic reviews aggregate? Ms. Marvel and She Hulk also have great reviews, I think it's pretty fair to say they don't mean anything, anything with gay and lesbian stuff in it gets an automatic 9 or 10 out of 10.

Hey, I know you are being flippant but can I ask you a genuine question? Why are you so invested in this show?

What do you mean, becuase i love the game series and I loved chernobyl. A big production HBO series is always exciting. Its like the best of both worlds colliding.

I think im more interested in why you and a few others that have no interest in in feel the need to argue with those of us who are. You could easily just ignore the thread and everyone in it

It's interesting because all video game fans should want this show to succeed as it can help bring more people into gaming and give more credence to our hobby. This is a beginning.

I think the problem is that it's The Last of Us and it's Sony.

So that really rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Some people want this to fail because it's Neil Druckmann and because it's Sony.

If this was Rockstar for example and Red Dead, people would just be cheering for this and wishing it well, but people have to put it in the lense of what this means for the "console war" and for their politics/agenda.

Yeah, its not so much that its getting great reception and a lot of hype its the fact that its Sony and Druckmann that were the first to crack the ceiling thats making people salty.

IMO its just the big advantage of Sony havin a big video production company versus just being a big tech company. They are using their multi-media strengths to broaden their brand power.

Its easy to see the contrast of people feeling a certain kind of way when its a Sony property getting praise versus something like Elden Ring

I think you would see the normal amount of this but there is a political/social element to this as well, which makes it really seedy.

There are people who want this to fail with every fiber of their being.

They also know that this is just the start of all of this. Sony has hit a home run with their first TV show. It's a big deal.

You see the people who were angry that Pedro Pascal of Mandalorian and Game of Thrones was cast in this. Why? Any reason in particular?

You see the people who were angry that Bella Ramsey was cast in this? Any reason in particular?

I didn't think TLOU2 was perfect and I thought it was twice as long as it needed to be, but I think on the merits of it, it's a great game, but why did people go absolutely ape shit because of the game? Any reason in particular?

The answer to these questions are all pretty clear.

I do wish people could take a second to see how far gaming has come regardless of what they think of The Last of Us or this particular franchise, director, or company getting credit to a degree for getting us here.

If this game wins an Emmy for best outstanding drama, it'll be a watershed moment in gaming.

People are too tribalistic to view it that way.

she always has dressed sorta boyish like.

This that a porno?

I'm assuming it's poking fun at people who really wanted someone like Kaitlyn Dever cast in the role because she is more attracted, forgetting that she'd be 26 and supposed to play a 14-year-old.

Why they needed an actress that they found more attractive to play a 14-year-old says a lot about them.

All the while ignoring that for her age she has significantly more experience than either Kaitlyn Dever or Maise Williams.
