Not to mention how you can’t even deeply get invested in netflix shows without worrying about cancellation or them taking 2 years to do another season. there’s so many shows on netflix right now that aren’t even cancelled but don’t have confirmed upcoming seasons.
Only thing you know aint getting cancelled on netflix is Stranger Things and Cobra Kai

Exactly this. There were a lot of shows that sunk their hooks into me, only to never see any resolution due to cancelations. Most of them being SciFi.

Ghost Rider season of AoS was pretty alright and the actor did a very good job in it. Actually most of the Agents of Shield stories since the... twist of season one were fun. I don't think I've watched the last season or two though.
Terminator movie was crap. Nothing could salvage it and Gabriel Luna was not exactly memorable in it either.

But they are all mostly decent in the roles. Ellie's actress doesnt look ugly tbh. She looks fine. A bit plain but Ellie is supposed to be plain. I am more pissed about disfiguring Tess. The actress gives the best performance in the episode but she supports a giant bruise on her face that is very distracting. Classic case of Neil going out of his way to make female leads ugly. It's funny that her new model in the remake was criticized for looking trailer trash but she looks far better compared to the tv show version.
Other than that, there is really no woke stuff. The actors despite being miscast all give a decent performance especially Sarah who I thought was better than Ellie. Tommy doesnt have much to do but Pedro Pascal is fine. Not my Joel, but good mainstream Joel the audience can immediately connect with. They are trying to humanize him here which is odd but not exactly woke.
if you can get over the casting decisions, there is really nothing woke here. Just a warning. Bill from Boston now has a boyfriend who is still alive unlike the game so thats probably episode 3. But just having a gay character doesnt make something woke imo.

The pilot was quite boring, I really don't like long episodes unless they're absolutely filled with content that justifies the length. The entire sequence involving the escape with Sarah felt much weaker than in the game and I don't think that knowing what would happen was the only reason. The pilot should've also included 'alive' infected from the present to make it a better incentive to keep watching beyond the first episode.
I will not change my mind about Bella being an awful choice to play Ellie. I also don't like how they uglified Tess, just like in the recent remake. Anna Torv is only 43 and still attractive irl, here they made her a bruised 50+ year old woman. The only good pick from the main cast is Pedro.

You think people, specifically women, would age like fine wine living in a post-apocalyptic world like this? She is a hardened no-bullshit smuggler who is 20 deep into a brutal as fuck world. You exect her to look like Jennifer Aniston or some shit? Running around with nice hair and make up?
There is no electricity, no hot showers, no make up, no hair salons, no nail salons, no plastic surgery, nothing at all in this world. what do you expect her to look like?

It was great, a very enjoyable pilot. I do agree the very last reveal was incredibly rushed though considering its importance, the reaction made almost no sense and it's extra strange as the game handles it so much better. Almost as if they ran out of time or something...

Gaming studios evolved being almost all guys with masculine attitudes. Put in strong meathead or dorky dude who gets the girl like it's Revenge of the Nerds. But the women are almost always hot, good looking, princessy or outright sleazy (like the classic D&D sorcerer or amazon with boobs hanging out). ND is trending the opposite. Without even knowing who works there I bet you got lots of women working there who now instill the exact same mentality as guys did for decades. But now it's the chiseled good looking guy surrounded by meh looking women.
In life, attitudes dont really change much between men and women. They can have the exact same needs and wants and attitudes. The whole stereotype that men are sexist slobs who dont give a shit about their kids, while women are better people who value sense of humour and if a guy is good with kids is total BS. But what gets pushed through media is whomever works there controlling the content what gets sold to the public.

I was disappointed with how they handled Robert. It kinda fucks with Tess's character development too.
I think they wanted to give audiences a glimpse at what the infection actually does to the human body after a long period of time.

Thats definitely a possibility and a pretty good theory. Never thought about it like that because one of the lead artists over at ND was a rather attractive looking girl who on a panel revealed that Drake picture i posted above and specifically said how the protagonist HAS to look attractive. Things have definitely changed since. Chloe was downgraded. People here excused it by saying well she's half indian now which i thought was pretty racist as if indians cant be attractive. They hired that hot chick from Battlestar gallactica to be the face model for Nadine and then took away all her good looking features especially in Lost legacy. At least she had a nice afro going on in U4. In Lost Legacy, she looks like a man.
I always figured it was just a bunch of women hating zoomer incels doing their best to make these women ugly but your theory makes more sense.
