5K is the max Microsoft could allot to a region?

And why should I be responsible for fact-checking YOUR data. If you don't know, don't pull it put of your ass.
There were a some weeks were the Xbox was selling around 5k-8k.

PS5 did as low as 1k, so... *shrug*

I'm not at fault for you being lazy. The data is there, you know where to look, and I assume you are a grown man that are responsible enough to look it up.

Getting back to the original topic: Let's see how long the PS5 can keep these numbers, and if its not just repressed demand.

You're the one who said:

"I would have to check, but I'm pretty sure it's within the group of worst selling consoles of all time in Japan.Congrats?"

Own up to your own statements
Congratulations on the PS5 on selling more than the Atari Lynx and the Wonderswan, two of dozens of consoles that I and 99,9% of the population never heard of and never considered as a metric to be beaten.

You win! Congrats

Please contain your feeling to just the PS5 right now. You have nothing to fear, the XBOX will not be a success in the land of superior culture.

Edit: Installbase butthurt now spilling over into GAF, stay classy.

Rune Factory, Octopath and Metroid Prime Remastered only did 16/68/8k on an install base of 28 million? That can't be good.
It doesn't matter how big is the installbase when the audience isn't there to begin with.

Metroid is a niche franchise in Japan while Octopath 2 underperformed thanks to SE marketing strategy.

Take Zelda BOTW 1st week sales for example, 190K on 320K installbase of Switch and 45K on 3M installbase of WiiU.

Huge installbase is going to help AAA tier games reach their full sales potential which is over 5M such as Pokémon(7M), Animal Crossing(10M), Splatoon(6M), and Smash(6M).

For Niche games below 300K it's hardly going to change anything with huge installbase like Nintendo Switch.

I'm just taking the piss out of the "Wo Long only did 30k on a install base of 3 millions? That can't be good." comment.

The PS4 sold a bit more than 9 million units in Japan. I would have to check, but I'm pretty sure it's within the group of worst selling consoles of all time in Japan.Congrats
Holy fuck, man. What are you even saying?

Are we really talking about those weeks where PS5 sold 1k and xbox 5k? Specially considering that Famitsu was overestimating Xbos sales in comparison with everyone else.

I don't get why many people here were offended by scalping issues that was brought into discussion for PS5 software situation in Japan.

Scalping issues are a positive sign for PS5 dire software situation right now because we know when the actual gamers in Japan bought PS5 instead of scalpers then the software sales are likely to improve.

For comparison when Switch is around 3 million units sold in Japan vs PS5 with 3 million units sold

Even with the rise of digital it isn't going to offset the abysmal software sales numbers for PS5 in Japan. The main issue here is the sales figure that was inflated thanks to scalpers during 2020-2022.

What we're seeing right now is the surge of sales to real gamers in Japan after two years of struggling against scalper rings and organizations.

Average weekly sales could settle around 60-70k which would still be good.

If it 'drops' to 50-60k in next few weeks then sells about 110k a few weeks around the launch of FF let's not go all dramatic when the former happens as the average across the full year is what we can extrapolate on.

3rd party games sales look like they're in line with the PS5 3rd party games. Bear in mind that 500K PS5s are digital only. A good example of the digital split is Elden Ring, it sold 1M units in Japan within the first 2 weeks, but only sold 300K physical (across PS4/PS5)

I think this will be PS5's peak year, the peak year for PS3 was 1.76 million and the peak year for PS4 was 1.94 million. PS5 seems to be in much higher demand and has already sold almost 700k in the first 10 weeks, i am going to say between 2.75 and 3 million for the year.

That would be pretty insane. PS2 peak was 3.7M and PSP peak was 3.5M. I feel like it's so hard to predict the PS5 demand in Japan right now.

Think the elephant in the room might just be that Japan is losing their appetite for console gaming, or at least non-F2P stuff

The only thing that consistently charts are the same 10 nintendo games that trade positions. We’ve seen too many 3rd party flops on both playstation and nintendo this past year to think otherwise

There's a few factors. Subscription services. We know 82% of PS5 users are signed up to PS+. F2P games and a general decline in full-game sales and an increase in F2P and MTX. Sony certainly makes money on all of these services and is seeing an increase in spend. Perhaps subs/F2P is the reason why Japanese gamers are more interested in the PS5 than the PS4?

Its also probably why sony is trying to tap into the service games market. People hear it and they’re like whyyyy? But i bet a lot of these countries that don’t have big sales representated on charts are living off online games.

Sony wouldn’t be pushing so hard in those markets if they truly weren’t seeing a return there. If what we saw on the physical charts representated how xbox and sony are truly doing, they probably would have completely pulled out by now

I wouldn’t be surprised if they are using the same strategy there that they are using here, they pull hardcore audiences in with big AAA titles like FFXVI and have them stay and spend money on apex and genshin

PS5 software sales are still struggling in Japan despite the console is already at 3 million mark(2.6 million for disk version). The main reason for that's the rampant scalping that happened during 2020-2022 and only recently the stock for the actual console demand in Japan is finally being bought by the japanese gamers. So, the actual number of PS5 in Japan is much lower than what appears on sales chart.

Another thing to keep in mind is the Final Fantasy 16 preorder situation in Japan which is horrifyingly bad in comparison to FFXV and FF7R.
Famitsu does not include digital, PlayStation 5 sales are very high in digital attach vs switch.

MTX officially makes more money for Sony than full game sales. So I say you're right. Sony is selling MTX/subscription boxes.

2.[PS5] Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (Koei Tecmo Games) 30,132/30132
4.[PS4] Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (Koei Tecmo Games) 17,699/17699

Probably something we'll see more and more as the generation progresses.

This is 5 or 6 weeks that the PS5 has surpassed the Switch, right?

edit: Also, the Digital vs Physical ratio is interesting:
PS5 – 60,403
PS5 Digital Edition – 18,009

A third of all PS5 consoles sold this week were digital. If this keeps up these Famitsu charts are less and less relevant for PS5 software numbers tbh.
That 60,403 refers to the non-Digital edition.

22.9% of PS5s sold this week were the digital ediiton, and 13.7% of PS5s sold in Japan in total are the digital edition.
Wo Long only did 30k on a install base of 3 millions? That can't be good.
Its not great, but that's more to do with the game than the PS5 (its not like Wo Long did great in the West either)

I don't think anyone would deny the Switch had terible third party support in its first year, it only really got decent in 2019 and good in 2021.

It's not so much a lack of interest in console gaming, and more that third parties haven't been able to appeal to Japan as much as they used to, which has allowed Nintnedo to swoop in and grab a larger share of the audience. We could see some good third party sales this year with Hogwarts, Momotaro, FF16 and (hopefully) multiple Dragon Quest games.

There's also some potential in the Level 5 projects I think.

Nintendo is by far the market leader when it comes to SW sales in Japan. No other 3rd party can compete with Nintendo published titles in Japan. This has been true for the last 15 years.

Nintnedo is most likely the market leader globally for software sales, but they used to have more competiton from third parties within Japan. For example, Level 5 had lot of sucessfully IP and Square Enix were putting out a lot of DQ/FF/KH spin offs that were doing well. That is not happening as much now (though there's some hope the Level 5 games and DQ spin offs are coming back).

You win! Congrats

Ahh, that cocky arrogance where you feel you can spout whatever nonsense comes to mind and when you're factually called out on it, you decide to flippantly move goalposts and never admit to being wrong. What a charm you are.

Wo Long only did 30k on a install base of 3 millions? That can't be good.

And the PS5 is already down compared to the previous weeks. Maybe the repressed demand has already been met, and now the PS5 will decline week over week until it meets its true baseline/demand? We will see that in the following weeks.

Octopath Traveler 2 had a great hold, but the numbers are still bad. Here's hoping word of mouth keeps pushing the number up.

Switch did better this week, but nothing to write home about.

Every thread has at least one shit take. Congratulations, you have qualified for this one's Shit Take MVP!!!

Famitsu.Series had a few weeks where it sold 5k(Though that could be a error on famitsu's end). You can look that up yourself. But I'm willing to admit I may be misremembering this one.

Getting back to the original topic: Let's see how long the PS5 can keep these numbers, and if its not just repressed demand.

Famitsu's Xbox estimates were so bad that they had to roll them down and correct them. Twice. As Media Create's numbers were (and have historically been) more accurate.

Of course you don't care about that; we know why you're here so just keep posting and keep getting demolished in the replies 😁👍

Its demand, period. Obviously had the supply been available last year it would have sold better then.

Is it sustained demand? Probably not, iirc only NDS and Switch had lengthy sustained periods of 100k/w averages.

I'm being honest about my analysis. If it's positive or negative is just a consequence, not a cause.

Plus, I do 100% believe that the PS5 sales number right now is due to repressed demand due to the supply issues. Once that is met, the numbers should drop in theory.Hence why the next weeks/months should be important.

Considering the digital version of the PS5 with Wolong physical sales is far from being honest, but you already know it. Not a good way to start a discussion pretending to be the one who is unbiased. Also, the % of a game sales based on consoles sold is a very weak reasoning on its own
