Dying Light 2: Stay Human |OT| Hey GAF, wanna play a parkour game?

Instinct on DL1 was by holding X. No way I'm using R3 for this, it is a fast way to break it in the long run. It's the first thing I'll switch when I play.
I have the Elite 2 so I mapped it to a paddle, also why do I need to hold X so long to pick up stuff.

I absolutely loved Dying Light 1, so I'm definitely picking this up soon. I'm hearing it's not running great on PC though?

Anyone know how to turn of Depth of Field?

As for the game, enjoyable so far, but only gotten to the first safe house. You can see there's a lot more care in the game this time around (things like weapon designs are massively improved and combat feels like you're going to enjoy it more than the first - honestly I stopped engaging zombies because it was just a chore but I've already done a required combat sequence that felt pretty good).

Running on an AMD 5700, with 8th gen i5 with DX12: game is running pretty solidly at 60FPS at 3K and using the DF optimization settings. 4K causes the game to dip into the low 50's. Haven't gotten to a city yet.

. . .I honestly don't see why or how this would run markedly different than the first one. Yes the engine is doing more, but you can tell right out the gate it's the same engine from DL1 (just with WAY more color).

I wasn't a fan of the survival instinct thing in DL1, but now it's even more necessary. At least until I'm used to all the new loot containers.

So far it feels similar to DL1 and very different at the same time.

My biggest and only issue so far on PC is the black bars on the side during cutscenes playing on a ultrawide monitor. But a mod will fix that soon.

Really annoying issue of this layered breathing sound when running. It sounds as if there's multiple versions of me running at the same time every time.

Edit: this issue as well as the odd deluxe runner outfit bug I was having were both fixed once I got the Bazaar, so....yay!

Having a blast on PC.

High preset, 4K, DLSS at Quality. Looks amazing and gives me a solid 60fps which is more than enough considering I'm using a PS5 controller for this.

For people playing on PS5 do you get any rumble on the controller ?? I get nothing. All I get is the right trigger feeling tighter than the left.

Also what version of the game are you on. Tells you bottom right of the menu screen, Am on V 1.2

I felt like dropkicking some zombies so impulse bought it, never played first game.
I can tell you that the first game was amazing, played a lot of BTZ (Be The Zombie) where you could fight against 4 players in co-op. Lot's of fun.

Damn I was hoping for some nice support. How is the game on PS5 btw what mode are you playing in?

Played for around half hour last night just to make sure it runs, and it runs well from what little i played. looking forward to jumping in tonight.

Played roughly 3 hours with the newest patch on PS5. The only bug I had so far was missing dialog a couple of times. But always only a few lines of NPC´s.
What version is yours ? Main in-game menu bottom right of the screen. Mine says 1.2.

played around 2 hours on PS5. Digging it. Resolution mode looks great and its the "smooth" 30 fps altho motion blur is a bit overdone. Performance mode looks like a fucking switch game, its atrocious, immediately went back to resolution. Also the haptic feedback is bugged, i dont think i got any vibration at all.

Happy I pulled the trigger on this, knew I'd love it but was hesitant when I heard there wasn't any FOV slider on PS5 (how is this still not a standard thing) which can sometimes be a deal-breaker for me depending on the game and how well it handles character motion (recently dl'd the R6Extraction trial and deleted it after 2 mins, felt nauseous from the jump). A couple of hours into DL2 and so far so good. I loved the 1st game but by the time I picked it up it had already been patched with a FOV slider, still hope it's added here, for some gamers is essential.

My immediate impression is that I'm going to be spending an ungodly amount of time exploring this world and slaughtering the zombie hordes. Combat feels *fantastic*, parkour movement is fluid and liberating and this is still very early game, I know it will just get better from here. Playing in Performance because 60 fps >>> any other option 99% of the time but might check out the other modes to be fair, it looks beautiful as is on my OLED.

It's a shame that the review version had so many technical issues which deeply impacted the games score. The whole point in delaying this game was to polish it, Techland should have delayed again and made it as perfect as possible, you can't change a first impression and those scores *will* influence those who rely on reviews to inform their purchases.

I'm hoping I can finish this before Elden Ring because once that drops everything else is getting put on the shelf lol. I'll never rush a game though, going to take my sweet time immersing myself in this world, can't wait to jump back in!

I think It is a different engine.

C-engine or something.

But yeah the game doesn't look good enough to be this heavy, rtx or not.

Anyone else find it a bit weird how you play as a completely different main character to the first game, with a completely different voice actor, yet the main character in this sounds EXACTLY the same as Crane from the first game?.

Using a 3080 paired with a 5800x.
Nice. I'm using a 3080 paired with a ryzen 9 and I'm at the same settings as you but I was sticking to 1080p as per the system recommendations because I was scared to kill my frame rate. If that GPU can maintain 60 fps at 4k on this game, then I shall sure go for it.

Just use Afterburner to throw up an FPS count and cap it in the Nvidia settings to 60FPS.

It does with DLSS, I just checked my settings and the one thing I lowered was Shadows to Medium... they still look good though. DLSS Quality seemed to run smoother than DLSS Balanced for me which was weird. Balanced gave me really weird... drag? It almost felt like FPS drops but it was worse.

I loved the first DL and the DLC for it and unironically like Dead Island so DL2 was a definate pick up

Playing the PS5 version for a few hours and this is great, smooth running, looks gorgeous and the Dual Sense adds to the weighty combat, only encountered one bug so far and couldn't open a basket, nothing major

Although I will say, is limb based damage is still not what I expect, I expect enemies to stumble if I hit them in the leg or drop a weapon or guard if I hit them in the arm, I know DI and DL being older kinda excused them but I expected more here on a Sequel

So you’ve got a 3080 and a 5900 (?) and the game was telling you at best you’ll get 1080p? I thought this card was supposed to shit over everything?

Seriously beginning to wish I’d never ordered this card now if that’s the kind of in game suggestions I’m going to get.

No, I'm limited by my PC monitor that is only 1080p. I therefore don't even get a higher option to select in the game resolution drop down.
What I will try tonight, following Arun's suggestion, is to connect my PC to my 55' OLED (that should give me the 4k option to select), cap the framerate at 60 fps in the nvidia control planet and pick dlss performance or quality in the game menu with high quality ray tracing. Afterburner should tell me what my frame rate then looks like but I can only hope it will be 60. Might be less than that.

I'm putting my hopes on this game severely improving over the next couple of months, with proper PS5 optimization and good DualSense support. I will pick it up then.

Getting weird flashing "textures" in the hospital section. Some of the textures or models - its difficult to tell, flash in either blue, green or red.

Very annoying.

Playing on PC.

Just hit 204k ingame on Steam, at a time when Europe is at work and school, and its early morning in the US.
Its numbers this weekend will be impressive to see.

Expected such good player numbers. It's already 2x Village peak and 4x og Dying Light, in Steam.
Doesn't matter how much "professional" reviewers smack the game for its average story when your core gameplay is so fun.
And we're not even at weekend lol.

Btw did anyone find the game as broken as Cyberpunk 2077 like some IGN review called out?

I can't believe they chose a voice actor for Aiden that sounds almost exactly like Roger Craig Smithd did in the first game lol
It's so distracting every time he speaks.
I think he sounds like if Nolan North and Roger Craig Smith had a baby.

Not even close. The only issue I had in 6 or so hours was when I arrived in Villador. FPS dropped to the low 20s and stayed there for some reason. Restarting the game fixed it.

Edit: Just to clarify, I'm playing on PC.

Gonna grab it tonight after work. This and Horizon will help ease the pain of the wait for Elden Ring.
Does it have the Romero-like soundtrack during the day that the first game had?

Well with some optimized settings I think I can keep this at above 60 with rtgi and rtao on on my 2080 at 1440p if the early starting area is to be considered one of the most demanding areas(due to vegetation and stuff)

I've done several takes myself between on and off and while off I do love that I can reach above 100fps, I just cant unsee the shadowing difference compared to on.It adds so much depth to a scene...very clear they didnt spend a lot of time adding fake shadows around a lot of places and why they went with RTGI. I saw an example on a website that makes it even more obvios what I'm saying. The pale one even on simple GI should not be so bright under the stairs. See below, not my screenshots.

The RT implementation in this game is superb, in fact I think its the best i've seen yet. I have 4/5 of the RT features enabled and am getting 40-60 FPS at 1440p on a measly 3070Ti. I don't even mind the performance drops when the game looks as good as it does.

I'll buy your 3080 for pity since you don't want it anymore, and just because you are a close friend i'm gonna give you half of what you paid for it.

Do we have a deal or do we have a deal?

The game is such a joy to play. Movement feels great and so far I don´t get the feeling that the voice acting or story is bad. Even the side quests feel fleshed out.

This feels like a Days Gone type of review situation all over again.

Changes in the combat mostly. It feels weightless, you can't throw melee weapons anymore. Zombie ragdoll is less dynamic.
So it is true after all...

Still have to try the game myself but if they fucked up the combat i see myself getting bored very quickly...

Edit: reading through reddit, yep it seems like they fucked up greatly.

I agree that the combat isn't quite as impactful as it used to be. Im still early on and hope that will change a bit once you start getting more powerful weapons.

Thanks. I want this game but I’m really considering grabbing the original. Everything I’ve read about it sounds significantly more appealing.
